This flow is regulated in part by the dam at Prairie du Sac and influenced considerably by the 47 storage reservoirs and power dams above Lake Wisconsin. The river's gradient and flow characteristics can be illustrated by a river profile and graphs of flow durations, 7-day low flows, and flood-flow recurrence (Hindall and Borman, 1974). Sufficient streamflow data to develop meaningful graphs were available for the gaging site at Muscoda, about the midpoint of the river reach being studied.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/ofr75582","usgsCitation":"Green, J.H., 1975, Flow characteristics of the Lower Wisconsin River: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 75-582, iii, 9 p., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr75582.","productDescription":"iii, 9 p.","numberOfPages":"12","onlineOnly":"N","additionalOnlineFiles":"N","costCenters":[{"id":677,"text":"Wisconsin Water Science Center","active":true,"usgs":true}],"links":[{"id":145230,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1975/0582/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":42537,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1975/0582/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"country":"United States","state":"Wisconsin","otherGeospatial":"Lower Wisconsin River, Muscoda","geographicExtents":"{\n  \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\",\n  \"features\": [\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              -91.16455078125,\n              43.068887774169625\n            ],\n            [\n              -91.13983154296875,\n              42.94637095514085\n            ],\n            [\n              -90.93109130859375,\n              42.98857645832184\n            ],\n            [\n              -90.7196044921875,\n              43.09697190802465\n            ],\n            [\n              -90.58502197265625,\n              43.137069765760344\n            ],\n            [\n              -90.41473388671875,\n              43.16111586765961\n            ],\n            [\n              -90.32135009765625,\n              43.16512263158296\n            ],\n            [\n              -90.186767578125,\n              43.12303850442337\n            ],\n            [\n              -90.0164794921875,\n              43.10699883578313\n            ],\n            [\n              -89.901123046875,\n              43.16311928246929\n            ],\n            [\n              -89.73907470703124,\n              43.22719386727831\n            ],\n            [\n              -89.69512939453125,\n              43.2512044908875\n            ],\n            [\n              -89.6759033203125,\n              43.31118965238512\n            ],\n            [\n              -89.6978759765625,\n              43.323179587489086\n            ],\n            [\n              -89.76654052734375,\n              43.329173667843904\n            ],\n            [\n              -89.89562988281249,\n              43.241201214257885\n            ],\n            [\n              -90.1702880859375,\n              43.21718664827096\n            ],\n            [\n              -90.26641845703125,\n              43.23719944365308\n            ],\n            [\n              -90.37353515625,\n              43.247203377359774\n            ],\n            [\n              -90.494384765625,\n              43.2512044908875\n            ],\n            [\n              -90.60150146484375,\n              43.249203966977845\n            ],\n            [\n              -90.85418701171874,\n              43.153101551466385\n            ],\n            [\n              -91.01348876953125,\n              43.08493742707592\n            ],\n            [\n              -91.0931396484375,\n              43.05082689000007\n            ],\n            [\n              -91.16455078125,\n              43.068887774169625\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    }\n  ]\n}","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e49d8e4b07f02db5df5bc","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Green, J. In the course of the studies, however, other investigations were made, primarily to find answers to specific problems that arose from time to time. The large amount of analytical and related data obtained is here reported, with sufficient explanatory material to bring the data into proper perspective. Although the Survey has not made a comprehensive overall study of the geology, geochemistry, mineralogy, and petrography of the shale, sufficient information has been obtained to provide a sound basis for possible mining and processing of the shale in the future.","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"s.n.],","doi":"10.3133/ofr75135","usgsCitation":"Brown, A., and May, I., 1975, Preliminary report on the economic potential of the Chattanooga Shale in Tennessee, data as of 1962: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 75-135, ix, 328 leaves :ill., maps ;27 cm., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr75135.","productDescription":"ix, 328 leaves :ill., maps ;27 cm.","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":146830,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1975/0135/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":41208,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1975/0135/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4a9be4b07f02db65e107","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Brown, Andrew","contributorId":64233,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Brown","given":"Andrew","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":166732,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"May, Irving","contributorId":39771,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"May","given":"Irving","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":166731,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2}]}}

Relative ages are expressed as the largest diameter of craters (D<sub>L</sub>, meters) in a mappable unit that are eroded to a slope of 1<strong>°</strong> by the net accumulated flux of small impacts. New data show that the technique used here generally requires a sample area less than 2,000 km<sup>2</sup> for satisfactory results. Additionally, the measurement of relative age (D<sub>L</sub>) using this technique is unaffected by resolutions of about 0.15 D<sub>L</sub> or smaller.</p><p>Results obtained indicate there are two types of plains: 1) light plains and 2) mare plains. The light plains units have two separate and distinct ages (D<sub>L </sub><span>≃ </span>550 m and D <span>≃</span><sub> </sub>1100 m). The range in ages for each of these units is so small that each could represent two separate synchronous lunar events. The maria were deposited in three major stages after the emplacement of the light plains units. The oldest mare units ( &gt; 3.7 b.y. old) are in Mare Tranquillitatis, Mare Vaporum, southeastern Mare Imbrium, the dark ring around Mare Serenitatis and a thin band from the crater Reinhold to Sinus Medii. Young mare volcanism ( &lt; 2.5 b.y. old) occurred in western Mare Serenitatis, southwestern Mare Imbrium and Oceanus Procellarum. All other mare areas investigated are of intermediate age.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/ofr75141","usgsCitation":"Boyce, J.M., Dial, A., and Soderblom, L.A., 1975, A summary of relative ages of lunar nearside and farside plains: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 75-141, Report: ii, 26 p.; 3 Plates: 47.79 x 28.71 inches or smaller, https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr75141.","productDescription":"Report: ii, 26 p.; 3 Plates: 47.79 x 28.71 inches or smaller","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":420743,"rank":5,"type":{"id":29,"text":"Figure"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1975/0141/figure-5.pdf","text":"Figure 5","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":420742,"rank":4,"type":{"id":29,"text":"Figure"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1975/0141/figure-6.pdf","text":"Figure 6","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":420741,"rank":3,"type":{"id":29,"text":"Figure"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1975/0141/figure-7.pdf","text":"Figure 7","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":420740,"rank":2,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1975/0141/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":144956,"rank":1,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1975/0141/report-thumb.jpg"}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4b02e4b07f02db698b8d","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Boyce, Joseph M.","contributorId":52963,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Boyce","given":"Joseph","email":"","middleInitial":"M.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":166645,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Dial, Arthur L.","contributorId":66686,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Dial","given":"Arthur L.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":166646,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2},{"text":"Soderblom, Laurence A. 0000-0002-0917-853X lsoderblom@usgs.gov","orcid":"https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0917-853X","contributorId":2721,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Soderblom","given":"Laurence","email":"lsoderblom@usgs.gov","middleInitial":"A.","affiliations":[{"id":131,"text":"Astrogeology Science Center","active":true,"usgs":true}],"preferred":true,"id":166644,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":3}]}}

Suspended-sediment yields were generally low relative to those indicated by data for other streams on southeastern Washington, the southern Cascade Range, and the upper Columbia River basin. The highest long-term sediment yield on the reservation probably is from the Big Muddy Creek basin; the estimated annual yield is about 150 tons per square mile. The suspended sediment transported by this stream is largely from glacial outwash from Mount Adams. Other yields in the basin were estimated to be from 10 to 50 tons per square mile. Mass wasting is considered the principal cause of sediment transport in the streams studied. Some evidence of accelerated sediment production due to road construction was found along Surveyor Creek.\r\n\r\nDuring the flood of January 1974, which has a calculated recurrence interval of more than 100 years, the maximum observed suspended-sediment concentration was 7,830 milligrams per litre, in the North Fork Simcoe Creek. During that flood, an estimated 70,000 tons of sediment was transported from the upper Toppenish Creek basin; this was nearly 600 tons per square mile. However, the long-term average annual yield was estimated to be only about 30 tons per square mile.","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"[s.n.],","doi":"10.3133/ofr7567","usgsCitation":"Boucher, P.R., 1975, Reconnaissance study of sediment transport by selected streams in the Yakima Indian Reservation, Washington, 1974 water year: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 75-67, iii, 12 leaves :map (folded) ;28 cm.; (20 p. - PGS), https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr7567.","productDescription":"iii, 12 leaves :map (folded) ;28 cm.; (20 p. - PGS)","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":144746,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1975/0067/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":41146,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1975/0067/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4a62e4b07f02db636279","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Boucher, Philip Richard","contributorId":106907,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Boucher","given":"Philip","email":"","middleInitial":"Richard","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":166631,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

Considering only those sites (approximately one square city block in size) for which there is good evidence for the degree of ascribed intensity, the empirical relation derived between 1906 intensities and distance perpendicular to the fault for 917 sites underlain by rocks of the Franciscan Formation is: Intensity = 2.69 - 1.90 log (Distance) (km).\r\n\r\nFor sites on other geologic units intensity increments, derived with respect to this empirical relation, correlate strongly with the Average Horizontal Spectral Amplifications (AHSA) determined from 99 three-component recordings of ground motion generated by nuclear explosions in Nevada. The resulting empirical relation is: Intensity Increment = 0.27 +2.70 log (AHSA), and average intensity increments for the various geologic units are -0.29 for granite, 0.19 for Franciscan Formation, 0.64 for the Great Valley Sequence, 0.82 for Santa Clara Formation, 1.34 for alluvium, 2.43 for bay mud. Four of the ruptures occurred in the western coastal plain and foothills, and two occurred in the Longitudinal Valley of eastern Taiwan. Maps are included showing the locations and dimensions of the displacements. The published geological literature probably would not lead one to infer the existence of a fault along most of the 1906 rupture, except for descriptions of the rupture itself. Over most of its length the 1935 rupture on the Chihhu fault is parallel to but more than 0.5 km from nearby faults shown on geologic maps published in 1969 and 1971; only about 1.5 km of its 15 km length coincides with a mapped fault. The coastal plain part of the Tuntzuchio fault which ruptured in 1935 is apparently not revealed by landforms, and only suggested by other data. Part of the 1946 Hsinhua faulting coincides with a fault identified in the subsurface by seismic work but surface indications of the fault are obscure. The 1951 Meilun faulting occurred along a conspicuous pre-1951 scarp and the 1951 Yuli faulting occurred near or in line with pre-1951 scarps. \r\nMore than 40 faults which, according to the published literature, have had Pleistocene or later movement are shown on a small-scale map. Most of these faults are in the densely-populated western part of Taiwan. The map and text calls attention to faults that may be active and therefore may be significant in planning important structures. \r\n\r\nEquivocal evidence suggestive of fault creep was found on the Yuli fault and the Hsinhua fault. Fault creep was not found at several places examined along the 1906 fault trace. \r\n\r\nTectonic uplift has occurred in Taiwan in the last 10,000 years and application of eustatic sea level curves to published radiocarbon dates shows that the minimum rate of uplift is considerably different in different parts of the island. Incomplete data indicate that the rate is high near Hualien, where an uplift of at least 0.6 m and probably more than 1 m occurred in the 1951 earthquake, and near and south of the 1946 faulting. Sudden uplifts can have serious consequences for installations near the shore. Investigation of this process, study of recently active faults, and continuing study of seismicity are necessary parts of a practical earthquake-hazard reduction program.","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey,","publisherLocation":"Reston, VA","doi":"10.3133/ofr7541","usgsCitation":"Bonilla, M.G., 1975, A review of recently active faults in Taiwan (Version 1.1): U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 75-41, 43 p., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr7541.","productDescription":"43 p.","costCenters":[{"id":312,"text":"Geology, Minerals, Energy, and Geophysics Science Center","active":true,"usgs":true}],"links":[{"id":145535,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/usgs_thumb.jpg"},{"id":976,"rank":100,"type":{"id":15,"text":"Index Page"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1975/of75-41/","linkFileType":{"id":5,"text":"html"}}],"edition":"Version 1.1","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4b19e4b07f02db6a7fa4","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Bonilla, Manuel G.","contributorId":74384,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Bonilla","given":"Manuel","email":"","middleInitial":"G.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":166615,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

Since bedrock geologic features are frequently expressed in the topography the radar lends itself to geologic interpretation. \r\n\r\nThe radar was studied by comparisons with field mapped geologic data first at a scale of approximately 1:125,000 and then at a scale of 1:500,000. The larger scale comparison revealed that faults, minor faults, joint sets, bedding and foliation attitudes, lithology and lithologic contacts all have a topographic expression interpretable on the imagery. Surficial geologic features were far less visible on the imagery over most of the area studied. The smaller scale comparisons revealed a pervasive, near orthogonal fracture set cutting all types and ages of rock and trending roughly N40?E and N30?W. In certain places the strike of bedding and foliation attitudes and some lithologic Contacts were visible in addition to the fractures. \r\n\r\nFracturing in southern New England is apparently far more important than has been previously recognized. The investigations, which are conducted by the Water Resources Division, of the Survey include: systematic collection, analysis, and interpretation of water data; investigation of in and agricultural water requirements; research and development to improve study techniques and methodologies to better understand the hydrologic principles that form the scientific basis of investigation; and publication and other forms of release to the public of results and data from these investigations. \n\nA large scale computerized storage and retrieval system is used by the Geological Survey to store and disseminate water data acquired through its many activities. The Geological Survey's National Water Data Storage and Retrieval System (WATSTORE) was implemented in November 1971. In addition to its data processing, storage, and retrieval capabilities, WATSTORE has the capability of providing computer-printed tables, computer-printed graphs, statistical analyses of data, and digital plots. The system is operated and maintained on the central computer facility of the Survey at its National Center, Reston, Va. an through approximately 50 terminals in Water Resources Division district an subdistrict offices located in major cities throughout the country. Asccess to WATSTORE is limited by hardware, available telephone lines, etc; for example, direct access is possible only through terminal equipment capable of interfacing\nwith an IBM 370/155 computer.\n\nWATSTORE is now (1975) available to other Federal agencies and selected cooperators of the Geological Survey who acquire and(or) use water data. This inventory was designed to determine and document the use of the 85 earth science products prepared as a part of the San Francisco Bay Region Environment and Resources Planning Study (SFBRS).</p><p>This inventory showed that: (1) three-fourths of the cities had planning staffs who were familiar with SFBRS products, or had made use of such products; (2) over half of the cities had prepared planning documents which contained references to SFBRS products; (3) the types of planning applications most often indicated were: geologic hazards studies; seismic safety, public safety, conservation, and open-space plan elements; general reference; and the preparation and review of environmental impact reports and statements; (4) almost 90 percent of all 85 SFBRS products were used at least once for a city planning activity, and one product was used at least 67 times for various city planning activities; and (5) at least forty-five other other USGS products were also used for various city planning activities.<br></p><p>All of the seven SFBRS products that were used 30 or more times for city planning activities were small-scale, large-areal-coverage, hazard-type products. Each product is interpretative and contains additional data which makes it more relevant or more interesting.</p><p>The planning staffs of each city were also interviewed and asked to indicate any problems in the use of the SFBRS products, to recommend improvements, and to identify any needed or desired earth science data. The responses showed that: (1) the map scales commonly used by cities were much larger than 1:12,000; (2) few cities had planning staffs with training or experience in the earth sciences or engineering; (3) less than one-fourth of the cities failed to use SFBRS products-primarily because their staffs were unaware of the SFBRS, unfamiliar with its products, or lacked adequate capability; (4) almost two-thirds of the cities expressed some problems in using the products-primarily scale and detail; (5) over two-thirds of the cities expressed an interest in continuing to use, or planning to use, the SFBRS products in the future, and a need or desire for additional earth science, engineering or other data; and (6) over one-half of the cities suggested improvements-primarily larger scale or more detail and less technical or more interpretative products.</p><p>From the inventory and responses to the interviews, it is concluded that the cities in the Bay region have considerable familiarity with, and have made substantial use of, SFBRS products. This use was made by many cities despite their small size, limited staff capability, and the design of the products which was intended primarily for regional planning at a regional scale. </p><p>Suggestions are made to ensure more familiarity with, and more effective use of, earth science data in the future. These suggestions include: (1) providing engineering interpretations and land-use capability ratings to make earth science data more readily usable; (2) monitoring and analyzing new state laws and regulations to better anticipate and respond to local earth science data needs; (3) including technical assistance with any earth science data designed for planners and decision-makers; (4) providing larger scale and greater detail earth science data on a demonstration basis; (5) giving priority to urban and urbanizing areas so as to conserve limited staff resources; and (6) ensuring product distribution to all potential users.&nbsp;</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/ofr75276","collaboration":"Prepared in cooperation with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development","usgsCitation":"Kockelman, W., 1975, Use of USGS earth science products by city planning agencies in the San Francisco Bay region, California: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 75-276, v, 110 p., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr75276.","productDescription":"v, 110 p.","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":397059,"rank":2,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1975/0276/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":146587,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1975/0276/report-thumb.jpg"}],"country":"United States","state":"California","otherGeospatial":"San Francisco Bay region","geographicExtents":"{\n \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\",\n \"features\": [\n {\n \"type\": \"Feature\",\n \"properties\": {},\n \"geometry\": {\n \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n \"coordinates\": [\n [\n [\n -122.71728515624999,\n 37.54457732085582\n ],\n [\n -121.9921875,\n 37.54457732085582\n ],\n [\n -121.9921875,\n 38.039438891821746\n ],\n [\n -122.71728515624999,\n 38.039438891821746\n ],\n [\n -122.71728515624999,\n 37.54457732085582\n ]\n ]\n ]\n }\n }\n ]\n}","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4b15e4b07f02db6a4d92","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Kockelman, W. Control points used for mapping were water levels in wells, lakes and sloughs, and places where topographic contours cross perennial streams.</p>\n<p>A computer program, using a variation of Darcy's law, was developed to determine distribution of 1) downward leakage to the Prairie du Chien-Jordan aquifer under steady-state conditions, using estimated vertical-hydraulic conductivity values for overlying materials; 2) calculated vertical hydraulic conductivity values, assuming uniform leakage to the aquifer; and 3) additional leakage to the aquifer resulting from increased pumpage during the summer. For data determination and data input to the computer program, the area was gridded into units of 1-minute longitude by 1-minute latitude, about 600 acres (243 hectares) per unit.</p>\n<p>Previous work estimated the increased summer pumpage (1971) of ground water to be 127 million gallons (481x106 litres) per day. Calculations, made Within the limits of governing assumptions, indicate that 10 to 20 percent of increased summer pumpage is derived from increased leakage. Most of the remainder is probably from captured natural discharge and induced recharge from major streams within the influence of summer cones of depression.</p>\n<p>Based on available data and estimates of vertical hydraulic conductivity for geologic units, major leakage to the Prairie du Chien-Jordan aquifer is indicated to occur in formation subcrop areas, especially where these areas are. overlain by the most permeable glacial drift.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","publisherLocation":"St. Paul, MN","doi":"10.3133/ofr75342","collaboration":"Prepared As petroleum reservoirs they commonly have poor performance histories. They contain the sediments of a depositional system comprised of three closely associated depositional subenvironments: dune, interdune, and extradune. Sediments of each subenvironment have different textural properties which resulted from different depositional processes. Dune sediments are usually more porous and permeable than interdune or extradune sediments and may be better quality reservoirs than interdune or extradune sediments. Interdune sediments are here restricted to those nondune sediments deposited in the relatively flat areas between dunes. Extradune sediments (a new term) include all deposits adjacent to a dune field and are mainly subaqueous deposits. Dune sediments may be enveloped by extradune sediments as the depositional system evolves resulting in a texturally inhomogeneous reservoir having poor fluid migration properties.\r\n\r\nThis model of textural inhomogeneity in eolian blanket sandstones. was applied to the Weber (Tensleep) Sandstone in Brady, Wertz, and Lost Soldier fields, Sweetwater County, Wyoming. Data were obtained from both outcrop and subsurface and included environmental interpretation, textural analysis, and plotting of the distribution of depositional subenvironments. As predicted from the model, the texture of dune sediments in Brady field differed markedly from interdune and extradune sediments. The predicted geometric distribution of subenvironments was confirmed in Lost Soldier and Wertz fields. This area could contain from 0.3 to 1.4 billion barrels of oil and from 0.6 to 2.7 trillion cubic feet of natural gas depending upon the statistical confidence level indicated.</p><p>The known geology of this submerged area, is extrapolated to the offshore from onshore data. The sedimentary rocks are as old as Triassic and as young as Pleistocene. The Mesozoic strata include volcanic rocks, volcanoclastic and marine clastic sediments. Tertiary, rocks from which the oil and gas in Upper Cook Inlet are produced, consist of nonmarine conglomerate, sandstone, siltstone and coal. The potential objective section for oil and gas in this OCS area ranges from Middle Jurassic through the Tertiary.</p><p>The present structural configuration of this area is a northeast trending trough filled with Tertiary sediments. The trough is flanked by two major faults, the Bruin Bay fault on the northwest and the Border Ranges fault on the southeast. Between these faults is the OCS area containing anticlinal structures and faults which may be traps for hydrocarbons.</p><p>Potential geologic hazards are present in this area.
