Samples of oil shale from two drill cores and one composite sample from the Colony mine were split and studied by X-ray diffraction methods to determine their bulk mineralogy. Oil yield data were obtained for these samples by conventional Fischer assay analysis and samples of the spent oil shale were studied by X-ray diffraction to determine the changes which resulted from pyrolysis. The amounts of Na<sub>2</sub>O, Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>, and SiO<sub>2</sub> extractable from 31 spent oil-shale samples were determined using hot distilled water, hot 0.1M KOH, and hot 0.5M KOH as solvents. Extractable Al<sub>2</sub>O and SiO<sub>2</sub> were also determined for the 31 spent oil-shale samples using hot 0.1M NaOH and hot 0.5M NaOH.</p><p>Correlation of the relative abundance of analcime--Na[Al, Si<sub>2</sub>O<sub>6</sub>]. H<sub>2</sub>0-- in raw oil-shale samples with the amounts of Na<sub>2</sub>O, Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>, and SiO<sub>2</sub> extracted from pyrolyzed oil shale demonstrates that analcime contributes significantly to all of these elements after it has been subjected to pyrolysis. Because of the large contribution of SiO<sub>2</sub> extractable from pyrolyzed analcime-bearing oil shale using caustic solvents, there may be significant problems in obtaining leachates high in Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>content and low in SiO<sub>2</sub> content where analcime is present with dawsonite--NaAl(OH)<sub>2</sub>CO<sub>3</sub>. This consideration is important to assessment of potential aluminum resources in oil shale. In addition, the concentrations of water soluble Na<sub>2</sub>O, Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>, and SiO<sub>2</sub> in analcime-bearing pyrolyzed oil shale are expected to be significantly greater than from oil shale which is free of analcime and dawsonite and this factor reflects the importance of oil-shale mineralogy to aspects of spent shale disposal</p>","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/ofr75156","usgsCitation":"Desborough, G.A., Mountjoy, W., and Frost, I.C., 1975, Influence of caustic and water leaching on analcime-bearing and analcime-free pyrolyzed oil shale from the Green River Formation, Piceance Creek Basin, Colorado: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 75-156, iii, 28 p., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr75156.","productDescription":"iii, 28 p.","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":430529,"rank":2,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1975/0156/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":147417,"rank":1,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1975/0156/report-thumb.jpg"}],"country":"United States","state":"Colorado","otherGeospatial":"Piceance Creek Basin","geographicExtents":"{ \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\", \"features\": [ { \"type\": \"Feature\", \"properties\": {}, \"geometry\": { \"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [ [ [ -108.75,39 ], [ -108.75,40.25 ], [ -107.75,40.25 ], [ -107.75,39 ], [ -108.75,39 ] ] ] } } ] }","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e49f1e4b07f02db5ee773","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Desborough, George A.","contributorId":101661,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Desborough","given":"George","email":"","middleInitial":"A.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":167580,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Mountjoy, Wayne","contributorId":21973,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Mountjoy","given":"Wayne","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":167578,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2},{"text":"Frost, Irving C.","contributorId":28253,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Frost","given":"Irving","email":"","middleInitial":"C.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":167579,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":3}]}}

Annual-peak-flow data from stream gaging stations on unregulated streams having 1 years or more of record were used to determine a log-Pearson Type III frequency curve for each station. Flood magnitudes having recurrence intervals of 2, 5, i0, 25, 50, and 10years were then related to physical and climatic indices of the drainage basins by multiple-regression analysis using the Biomedical Computer Program BMDO2R. These regression relations are useful for estimating flood magnitudes of the specified recurrence intervals at ungaged or short-record sites. \r\n\r\nSeparate sets of regression equations were defined for western and eastern parts of the State, and the State was further subdivided into 12 regions in which the annual floods\r\nexhibit similar flood characteristics. Peak flows are related most significantly in western Washington to drainage-area size and mean annual precipitation. In eastern Washington-they are related most significantly to drainage-area size, mean annual precipitation, and percentage of forest cover. Standard errors of estimate of the estimating relations range from 25 to 129 percent, and the smallest errors are generally associated with the more humid regions.","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey [Water Resources Division],","doi":"10.3133/ofr74336","usgsCitation":"Cummans, J., Collings, M.R., and Nasser, E.G., 1975, Magnitude and frequency of floods in Washington: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 74-336, v, 46 p. :maps ;27 cm.; (90 p. - PGS), https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr74336.","productDescription":"v, 46 p. :maps ;27 cm.; (90 p. - PGS)","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":108598,"rank":700,"type":{"id":15,"text":"Index Page"},"url":"https://ngmdb.usgs.gov/Prodesc/proddesc_15049.htm","linkFileType":{"id":5,"text":"html"},"description":"15049"},{"id":146139,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1974/0336/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":41605,"rank":400,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1974/0336/plate-1.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":41606,"rank":401,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1974/0336/plate-2.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":41607,"rank":402,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1974/0336/plate-3.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":41608,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1974/0336/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4a80e4b07f02db649562","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Cummans, J. The technique involved stretching and ratioing computer-enhanced data from which electronic noise and atmospheric haze had been removed. Using present techniques, the work proves that LANDSAT-I data are useful in detecting alteration around uranium deposits, but the method may still be improved. The goal in operating these networks has been to obtain sufficient data for estimating flood frequency at ungaged sites with the equivalent accuracy expected from 10 years of observed flood records. In some areas the networks have accumulated sufficient data to satisfy these accuracy goals. A review of these networks, looking toward possible reduction of the number of gages, is now timely. Continued operation of a few selected gages may be desirable to provide a longer time-sample base for improving the flood-frequency estimating equation and(or) to expand the area over which the equations apply.</p><p>In 1974, Thomas Maddock III developed a rational method for selecting gages to be retained in a reduced hydrologic network. This method of network analysis seeks the optimum set of gages to be retained for a given level of annual operating costs with the information content of the reduced network being the factor optimized. Application of Maddock's method demonstrated that a considerable number of gages could be eliminated from a network without grossly decreasing its information content.</p><p>Maddock's method of analysis is described in detail for a hypothetical network of gages. The method also is applied to actual networks in Montana, Illinois, and Georgia.</p><p>The analysis of networks in Montana illustrates the basic approach to selecting an optimal subset from the existing set of gages. The Illinois analysis demonstrated that by retaining only 26 percent of the gages, nearly 63 percent of the original information is retained in the reduced network. Application of the procedure shows how the design of networks in Georgia may be modified because of hydrologic considerations to meet budgetary constraints.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/wri7530","usgsCitation":"Carrigan, P.H., and Golden, H.G., 1975, Optimizing information transfer in a stream-gaging network: U.S. Geological Survey Water-Resources Investigations Report 75-30, v, 25 p., https://doi.org/10.3133/wri7530.","productDescription":"v, 25 p.","numberOfPages":"34","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":157924,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/wri/1975/0030/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":349792,"rank":2,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/wri/1975/0030/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4aefe4b07f02db69138d","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Carrigan, Philip Hadley Jr.","contributorId":86768,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Carrigan","given":"Philip","suffix":"Jr.","email":"","middleInitial":"Hadley","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":196506,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Golden, Harold G.","contributorId":103244,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Golden","given":"Harold","email":"","middleInitial":"G.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":196507,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2}]}}

The local ground-water flow system is dominated by an outwash aquifer that is sandwiched between two till layers in the western part of the area and exposed at the land surface in the eastern part. Ground water discharges from the aquifer into lakes in the outwash area but is recharged from lakes in the till-covered area. Irregular aquifer geometry resulted in a complex ground-water flow system. Simulation of the system by areal and vertical-section models showed that the lakes significantly control groundwater flow near their boundaries. Inadequate field data and complex geology caused difficulty in obtaining solutions with the vertical-section model. The models may be used to guide collection and interpretation of field data, and quantification of the ground-water flow system. With modification, they could be used to predict aquifer response to transient stresses. They also could be incorporated into more complex models to determine the movement of solutes in the ground-water system.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","publisherLocation":"St. Paul, MN","doi":"10.3133/wri7540","collaboration":"Prepared in cooperation with the U. Areas were planimetered on U.S. Geological Survey topographic quadrangle maps and balanced to known areas taken from&nbsp;Smithsonian Geographical Tables of areas of quadrilaterals of the earth's surface (procedures and standards recommended by Subcommittee on Hydrology, Federal Inter-Agency River Basin Committee). Streams are tabulated in sequence; first, the Ohio River basin, followed by the St. Lawrence River basin, and finally, the Mississippi River basin. Streams are listed in downstream order, starting at the headwaters; the rank of the stream system within each basin is indicated by indention. At sites where streamflow data had been collected, previously assigned U.S. Geological Survey eight-digit numbers are used. These numbers, which describe unique sites, increase in downstream order. All locations are identified by reference to a town, land-line location, topographic quadrangle, and county at the point where the drainage area was determined. By 1990, the district will be receiving 102,000 acre-feet (1.3 x 108 cubic metres) per year. Plans are to distribute this imported water for artificial recharge to the local ground-water system.</p><p>The upper Santa Ana River area is well suited for artificial recharge because it is largely underlain by permeable river-channel deposits. Some sandy clay, silt, and cemented sand and gravel layers occur that may locally retard downward percolation of recharge water. However, test drilling indicates none of these is extensive enough to impede recharge in the spreading grounds.</p><p>Analyses of ground-water movement during current water-spreading operations, test-drilling data, and application of Baumann's (1965) equation for calculating the theoretical size of the recharge mound indicate that<br>(1) barriers to ground-water movement are not evident in the river-channel deposits, (2) depth to the basement complex is less in the area of the eastern spreading basins than in the western basins, (3) the spreading grounds would be capable of accepting a combined total of as much as 80,000 acre-feet<br>(9.9 x 107 cubic metres) per year, and (4) the water being recharged should move through the part of the aquifer composed of river-channel deposits toward the areas of pumpage.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/wri7515","usgsCitation":"Schaefer, D.H., and Warner, J.W., 1975, Artificial recharge in the upper Santa Ana River area, San Bernardino County, California: U.S. Geological Survey Water-Resources Investigations Report 75-15, iv, 27 p., https://doi.org/10.3133/wri7515.","productDescription":"iv, 27 p.","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":159942,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/wri/1975/0015/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":358980,"rank":2,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/wri/1975/0015/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"country":"United States","state":"California","county":"San Bernardino County","otherGeospatial":"Upper Santa Ana River","geographicExtents":"{\n  \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\",\n  \"features\": [\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              -117.36557006835938,\n              34\n            ],\n            [\n              -117.0833,\n              34\n            ],\n            [\n              -117.0833,\n              34.19192570670952\n            ],\n            [\n              -117.36557006835938,\n              34.19192570670952\n            ],\n            [\n              -117.36557006835938,\n              34\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    }\n  ]\n}","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4abbe4b07f02db672c07","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Schaefer, Donald H.","contributorId":77507,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Schaefer","given":"Donald","email":"","middleInitial":"H.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":201701,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Warner, James W.","contributorId":106119,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Warner","given":"James","email":"","middleInitial":"W.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":201702,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2}]}}

The purpose of this investigation was to determine if data from four sites, shown in figure 1, substantiate the hypothesis that corroded, broken, or improperly sealed casing permitted relatively fresh water from the shallow aquifers to circulate within the salt zone and that the resulting brine solution leaked downward into permeable zones that would accept the fluid under hydrostatic pressure.</p><p>Strata similar to those penetrated by wells at the four sites (shown in tables 1 and 2) underlie much of central Kansas. Many thousands of oil and gas wells have been drilled through the salt beds, but land subsidence has been reported at few of the sites. Reported sites are near highways, and two well-documented instances of subsidence involve the stability of highway right-of-way. Because many wells have been drilled in remote areas, similar occurrences may remain unreported. The scope of this investigation is limited to the compilation, analysis and interpretation of the available data from four sites shown in figure 1, and the mention of a fifth site.</p><p>The photograph (fig. 2) shows a deteriorated casing pulled from a well located between Sites 3 and 4 in western Rice County. The casing consists of inner and outer pipes with the annular space between filled with cement. The almost complete failure of the outer pipe is evident. The casing is believed to be from the well in the concrete pit that is in the lower right of the photograph. The pond in the background is a sink that has developed near the well; detailed historical data, however, were unavailable for further study of this site.</p><p>The investigation was requested by the Energy Research and Develop-ment Administration (formerly U.S. Atomic Energy Commission) as part of a study of bedded salt in Kansas as a repository for radioactive wastes. Data for the report were collected from the files of several Kansas State agencies; the Highway Commission, Department of Health and Environment, Geological Survey, and the Corporation Commission. Reports resulting from various areal studies have described the ground-water resources of the areas concerned, but no reports dealing specifically with the statewide occurrence of individual aquifer systems have been prepared previously. A series of \"aquifer atlases\" was deemed the most effective way to point out the character, the potential, and the extent of development of the aquifers and thereby provide water managers with data needed for efficient utilization of available resources. This report on the Miocene aquifer system is the first in the series. Information on the aquifers was obtained in the cooperative programs of the U.S. Geological Survey with the Mississippi Board of Water Commissioners and other State and Federal agencies.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/wri7546","usgsCitation":"Newcome, R., 1975, The Miocene aquifer system in Mississippi: U.S. Geological Survey Water-Resources Investigations Report 75-46, 3 Plates: 31.51 x 42.12 inches or smaller, https://doi.org/10.3133/wri7546.","productDescription":"3 Plates: 31.51 x 42.12 inches or smaller","onlineOnly":"N","additionalOnlineFiles":"Y","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":159534,"rank":1,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/wri7546.PNG"},{"id":311143,"rank":2,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/wri/1975/0046/plate-1.pdf","text":"Plate 1","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":311144,"rank":3,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/wri/1975/0046/plate-2.pdf","text":"Plate 2","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":311145,"rank":4,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/wri/1975/0046/plate-3.pdf","text":"Plate 3","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"country":"United States","state":"Mississippi","geographicExtents":"{\n  \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\",\n  \"features\": [\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              -91.1700439453125,\n              32.55144352864431\n            ],\n            [\n              -91.1700439453125,\n              32.55144352864431\n            ],\n            [\n              -91.16455078125,\n              32.55144352864431\n            ],\n            [\n              -91.16455078125,\n              32.55144352864431\n            ],\n            [\n              -91.1700439453125,\n              32.55144352864431\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    },\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              -91.1920166015625,\n              32.63012300670739\n            ],\n            [\n              -91.8017578125,\n              30.954057859276126\n            ],\n            [\n              -89.7528076171875,\n              30.963479049959364\n            ],\n            [\n              -89.84619140625,\n              30.72294882477251\n            ],\n            [\n              -89.8077392578125,\n              30.44867367928756\n            ],\n            [\n              -89.71435546875,\n              30.287531589298727\n            ],\n            [\n              -89.56054687499999,\n              30.14512718337613\n            ],\n            [\n              -89.5330810546875,\n              30.121373087823045\n            ],\n            [\n              -89.3463134765625,\n              30.20211367909724\n            ],\n            [\n              -88.83544921874999,\n              30.30650325984881\n            ],\n            [\n              -88.472900390625,\n              30.315987718557867\n            ],\n            [\n              -88.3795166015625,\n              30.320729603696027\n            ],\n            [\n              -88.4344482421875,\n              31.28793989264176\n            ],\n            [\n              -88.44543457031249,\n              31.728167146023935\n            ],\n            [\n              -88.44543457031249,\n              32.07792017378829\n            ],\n            [\n              -88.4344482421875,\n              32.379961464357315\n            ],\n            [\n              -88.406982421875,\n              32.491230287947594\n            ],\n            [\n              -91.1920166015625,\n              32.63012300670739\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    }\n  ]\n}","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4ac8e4b07f02db67b8cd","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Newcome, Roy","contributorId":14796,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Newcome","given":"Roy","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":200538,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

Relatively few new data were collected.</p><p>The White River can be subdivided into five distinct river-quality sections. Section 1, above Winchester, drains a rural area and is affected by agricultural land use, although the river quality generally is good. Section 2, between Winchester and Muncie, is affected by urbanization at Winchester and Muncie. The river quality generally is good, although stretches near the cities occasionally have problems. Section 3, Muncie to Anderson, is polluted by urban effluent. Section 4, Anderson to Indianapolis, is further polluted (particularly at Anderson), but the river tends to recover considerably at Indianapolis, and becomes relatively clean. Section 5, below Indianapolis, is polluted. The river continues to be polluted below the project boundary.</p><p>The river is affected most severely in the Indianapolis area. For example, in October 1972 the nitrogen load increased from 5.45 tons per day (4.94 tonnes per day) above Indianapolis to 18.43 tons per day (16.72 tonnes per day) below the city. Ten micrograms per kilogram of DDD, 20 micrograms per kilogram of chlordane, and 20 micrograms per kilogram of polychlorinated biphenyls were extracted from the sediments in the White River below Indianapolis. The median coliform bacteria count below Indianapolis is 360,000 colonies per 100 millilitres of water. The only benthic invertebrates found in the White River below Indianapolis are pollution-tolerant species, and very few fish are found. Conditions are similar, but to a somewhat lesser degree, below Muncie.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/wri7510","usgsCitation":"Shampine, W.J., 1975, A river-quality assessment of the upper White River, Indiana: U.S. Geological Survey Water-Resources Investigations Report 75-10, vii, 68 p., https://doi.org/10.3133/wri7510.","productDescription":"vii, 68 p.","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":358948,"rank":2,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/wri/1975/0010/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":160153,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/wri/1975/0010/report-thumb.jpg"}],"country":"United States","state":"Indiana","otherGeospatial":"Upper White River","geographicExtents":"{\n  \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\",\n  \"features\": [\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              -86.75,\n              39.5\n            ],\n            [\n              -84.5,\n              39.5\n            ],\n            [\n              -84.5,\n              40.4\n            ],\n            [\n              -86.75,\n              40.4\n            ],\n            [\n              -86.75,\n              39.5\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    }\n  ]\n}","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4b18e4b07f02db6a727e","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Shampine, William J.","contributorId":89891,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Shampine","given":"William","email":"","middleInitial":"J.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":201951,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

Predictions based on the QUAL-I model, which was verified only against midday summer-flow conditions, showed that improvement of quality of inflows from sewage treatment plants and use of at least 130 cubic feet per second of dilution water would improve water quality in the canal significantly. The model was not fully amenable to use on Plantation Canal because: (1) it did not consider photosynthetic production, nitrification, and benthic oxygen demand as sources and sinks of oxygen; (2) the model assumptions of complete mixing, transport, and steady state were not met; and (3) the data base was inadequate because it consisted of only one set of data for each case. However, it was felt that meaningful results could be obtained for some sets of conditions.
