The anomaly patterns were derived from the point-plot maps of copper and molybdenum distribution in the individual sample media (Curtain, Day, O'Leary, Marsh, and Tripp, 1976; Curtain, Day, Carten, Marsh, and Tripp, 1976). Background data were disregarded for each of the two metals. Weakly anomalous data for all media (small black symbols) were assigned the number 2; strongly anomalous data for all media (large black symbols) were assigned the number 3. These new data were then summed or \"stacked\" for each metal so that all sites showing anomalous values in one or more of the sample media had a numerical rating that ranged from 2 (weakly anomalous value in one sample medium) to a possible 12 (strongly anomalous values in all four sample media). The summed data were ranked into three groups shown in the explanation. The drainage basins showing anomalous values were outlined according to these groups. The purpose of this report is to describe the heavy-mineral distribution in sea-floor sediments On the South Texas Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) within the northwestern Gulf of Mexico. The South Texas OCS encompasses approximately 24,500 sq km extending southward from Matagorda Bay to the U.S.-Mexico border (fig. 1). In a shoreward direction, the OCS extends from the 180-m isobath to the Federal-State water boundary (16.6 km offshore); however, the mineral distribution patterns presented in these maps have been extrapolated slightly shoreward of the l5-m isobath. This work was part of a regional environmental studies program in the South Texas OCS that was conducted in conjunction with the offshore petroleum-lease sales, under the auspices of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. No flooding occurred downstream from American Falls Reservoir. The inundated areas and maximum water-surface elevations are shown in a series of 17 hydrologic atlases. The area covered by the atlases extends from Teton Dam downstream to American Falls Reservoir, a distance of 100 miles. The extent of flooding shown on the maps was obtained by field inspections and aerial photographs made during and immediately after the flood. There may be small isolated areas within the boundaries shown that were not flooded, but the identification of these sites was beyond the scope of the study. The elevation data shown are mean-sea-level elevations of high-water marks identified in the field. This particular map (in the 17-map series) shows conditions in the Blackfoot quadrangle. The most productive aquifers are outwash and ice-contact deposits. Their locations and the most favorable areas for obtaining large yields from them are indicated on the map. The largest reported yield from a well in unconsolidated deposits is 100 gpm, but it is likely that in places as much as 500 gpm can be obtained from properly located and developed wells. Ground water is available to drilled wells in bedrock in sufficient quantity for domestic use. The average yield from bedrock wells is 11 gpm, the median yield is 5 gpm, and the maximum reported yield is 150 gpm. The quality of the water is generally good, although brackish or salty water is obtained by some wells on the coast.
