This analysis, carried out primarily with a commercial digital photogrammetric system, supported by our in‐house Integrated Software for Imagers and Spectrometers (ISIS), consists of three steps: (1) geometric control: simultaneous solution for refined estimates of camera positions and pointing plus three‐dimensional (3‐D) coordinates of ∼10</span><sup>3</sup><span>&nbsp;features sitewide, based on the measured image coordinates of those features; (2) topographic modeling: identification of ∼3×10</span><sup>5</sup><span>&nbsp;closely spaced points in the images and calculation (based on camera parameters from step 1) of their 3‐D coordinates, yielding digital terrain models (DTMs); and (3) geometric manipulation of the data: combination of the DTMs from different stereo pairs into a sitewide model, and reprojection of image data to remove parallax between the different spectral filters in the two cameras and to provide an undistorted planimetric view of the site. These processes are described in detail and example products are shown. Plans for combining the photogrammetrically derived topographic data with spectrophotometry are also described. These include photometric modeling using surface orientations from the DTM to study surface microtextures and improve the accuracy of spectral measurements, and photoclinometry to refine the DTM to single‐pixel resolution where photometric properties are sufficiently uniform. Finally, the inclusion of rover images in a joint photogrammetric analysis with IMP images is described. This challenging task will provide coverage of areas hidden to the IMP, but accurate ranging of distant features can be achieved only if the lander is also visible in the rover image used.</span></p>","largerWorkType":{"id":2,"text":"Article"},"largerWorkTitle":"Journal of Geophysical Research E: Planets","largerWorkSubtype":{"id":10,"text":"Journal Article"},"language":"English","publisher":"American Geophysical Union","publisherLocation":"Washington, D.C.","doi":"10.1029/1998JE900012","issn":"01480227","usgsCitation":"Kirk, R.L., Howington-Kraus, E., Hare, T.M., Dorrer, E., Cook, D., Becker, K.J., Thompson, K., Redding, B., Blue, J., Galuszka, D., Lee, E., Gaddis, L.R., Johnson, J.R., Soderblom, L.A., Ward, A.W., Smith, P.H., and Britt, D., 1999, Digital photogrammetric analysis of the IMP camera images: Mapping the Mars Pathfinder landing site in three dimensions: Journal of Geophysical Research E: Planets, v. 104, no. Previously it was thought that oil would be rapidly removed from such geomorphic settings by wave action. Oil mousse persists at sites in Katmai National Park and Preserve (NP&amp;P) where it was stranded high in the intertidal zone under a lag of large boulders. These boulders armor the beach, preventing waves from disturbing the substrate and its included oil. Weathering of this stranded mousse has been slight – mousse sampled in 1989, 1992 and 1994 show negligible changes in polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons compared to 11-day old Exxon Valdez crude. The preservation of this oil is due to its transport as mousse boli whose interiors largely escape weathering, followed by its sheltering in the interstices of boulder-armored beaches. The transport of mousse may allow for the long distance dispersal of less weathered, and hence still toxic oil. Our findings suggest that the low ecological sensitivity ratings previously applied to exposed, rocky shorelines need to be modified. The biological threat posed by oil stranded on the Katmai NP&amp;P coast probably is slight because of its small amount and sequestered state. However, it still possesses the ability to be chemically toxic and could be released through disturbance of the armoring boulders by unusually high wave events.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"Elsevier","doi":"10.1016/S0025-326X(98)00115-5","usgsCitation":"Irvine, G.V., Mann, D.H., and Short, J.W., 1999, Multi-year persistence of oil mousse on high energy beaches distant from the Exxon Valdez spill origin: Marine Pollution Bulletin, v. 38, no. 7, p. 572-584, https://doi.org/10.1016/S0025-326X(98)00115-5.","productDescription":"13 p.","startPage":"572","endPage":"584","costCenters":[{"id":114,"text":"Alaska Science Center","active":true,"usgs":true}],"links":[{"id":337089,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/outside_thumb.jpg"}],"country":"United States","state":"Alaska","otherGeospatial":"Shelikof Strait","geographicExtents":"{\n  \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\",\n  \"features\": [\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              -156.796875,\n              56.9449741808516\n            ],\n            [\n              -151.248779296875,\n              56.9449741808516\n            ],\n            [\n              -151.248779296875,\n              59.226555635719215\n            ],\n            [\n              -156.796875,\n              59.226555635719215\n            ],\n            [\n              -156.796875,\n              56.9449741808516\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    }\n  ]\n}","volume":"38","issue":"7","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"58c12663e4b014cc3a3d3517","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Irvine, Gail V. girvine@usgs.gov","contributorId":2368,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Irvine","given":"Gail","email":"girvine@usgs.gov","middleInitial":"V.","affiliations":[{"id":116,"text":"Alaska Science Center Biology MFEB","active":true,"usgs":true}],"preferred":true,"id":681346,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Mann, Daniel H.","contributorId":67010,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Mann","given":"Daniel","email":"","middleInitial":"H.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":681347,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2},{"text":"Short, Jeffrey W.","contributorId":26602,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Short","given":"Jeffrey","email":"","middleInitial":"W.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":681348,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":3}]}}

Most rapid growth in weight (1.2% wet body weight/day) occurred among fish fed the ad libitum ration at 15A?C; growth was most rapid at about 10A?C for fish fed the 2% ration (0.7%/day), and the 1% ration (0.1%/day). Gross conversion efficiency was highest at 10A?C for all three ration levels. Gross body constituents and energy content of the test fish changed with temperature and ration during the study. Growth rate was positively related to lipid, energy content, and ration; lipid and energy content were positively related to water temperature; lipid, energy content, growth rate, ration, and water temperature were negatively related to water content; and protein was not related to any of the test variables. At the end of the study, water (68.7 to 76.4%) and lipid (3.5 to 10.4%) content were more variable than ash (1.8 to 3.1%), carbohydrate (0.1 to 1.9%), and protein (16.9 to 19.4%) content. Profiles of the following measured and derived properties are presented from that investigation: water content, sediment wet bulk density, grain size, porosity, gas hydrate quantity, and salinity. These data indicate that the greatest concentration of gas hydrate is located within sand and gravel deposits between 897 m and 922 m. In response to concern over the status of rainbow smelt in eastern Lake Erie, our objective was to quantify some primary top down forces of rainbow smelt mortality that include walleyes (Stizostedion vitreum), five stocked salmonine fishes, and the commercial fishery.  This objective was to satisfy a need to understand whether consumption by the major fish predators was significant relative to the measured commercial harvest of rainbow smelt.  Achieving this knowledge may provide fisheries managers with an improved basis for managing the rainbow smelt resource through adjustments to stocking policies and/or commercial fishing quotas.","largerWorkType":{"id":4,"text":"Book"},"largerWorkTitle":"The state of Lake Erie: past, present and future","largerWorkSubtype":{"id":4,"text":"Other Government Series"},"language":"English","publisher":"Backhuys Publishers","publisherLocation":"Leiden, The Netherlands","usgsCitation":"Einhouse, D., Bur, M., Cornelius, F., Kenyon, R., Madenjian, C., Rand, P., Sztramko, K., and Witzel, L., 1999, Consumption of rainbow smelt by walleye and salmonine fishes in eastern Lake Erie, chap. <i>of</i> The state of Lake Erie: past, present and future, p. 291-303.","productDescription":"p. 291-303","startPage":"291","endPage":"303","costCenters":[{"id":324,"text":"Great Lakes Science Center","active":true,"usgs":true}],"links":[{"id":127149,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/outside_thumb.jpg"}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4affe4b07f02db697e91","contributors":{"editors":[{"text":"Munawar, M.","contributorId":79835,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Munawar","given":"M.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":504130,"contributorType":{"id":2,"text":"Editors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Edsall, T.","contributorId":8792,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Edsall","given":"T.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":504128,"contributorType":{"id":2,"text":"Editors"},"rank":2},{"text":"Munawar, I.F.","contributorId":71934,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Munawar","given":"I.F.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":504129,"contributorType":{"id":2,"text":"Editors"},"rank":3}],"authors":[{"text":"Einhouse, D.W.","contributorId":27813,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Einhouse","given":"D.W.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":295410,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Bur, M.T.","contributorId":58215,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Bur","given":"M.T.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":295412,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2},{"text":"Cornelius, F.C.","contributorId":97841,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Cornelius","given":"F.C.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":295416,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":3},{"text":"Kenyon, R.","contributorId":33652,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Kenyon","given":"R.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":295411,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":4},{"text":"Madenjian, C.P.","contributorId":64175,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Madenjian","given":"C.P.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":295414,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":5},{"text":"Rand, P.S.","contributorId":17561,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Rand","given":"P.S.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":295409,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":6},{"text":"Sztramko, K.L.","contributorId":60977,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Sztramko","given":"K.L.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":295413,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":7},{"text":"Witzel, L.D.","contributorId":70324,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Witzel","given":"L.D.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":295415,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":8}]}}
