Total estimated average annual tributary inflow to the Colorado River between Hoover Dam and Mexico, excluding the measured tributaries, is 96,000 acre-ft or about 1% of the 7.5 million acre-ft/yr of Colorado River water apportioned to the States in the lower Colorado River basin. About 62% of the tributary inflow originates in Arizona, 30% in California, and 8% in Nevada. Tributary inflow is a small component in the water budget for the river. Most of the quantities of unmeasured tributary inflow were estimated in previous studies and were based on mean annual precipitation for 1931-60. Because mean annual precipitation for 1951-80 did not differ significantly from that of 1931-60, these tributary inflow estimates are assumed to be valid for use in 1984. Measured average annual runoff per unit drainage area on the Bill Williams River has remained the same. Surface water inflow from unmeasured tributaries is infrequent and is not captured in surface reservoirs in any of the States; it flows to the Colorado River gaging stations. Estimates of groundwater inflow to the Colorad River valley. Average annual runoff can be used in a water budget; although in wet years, runoff may be large enough to affect the calculation of consumptive use and to be estimated from hydrographs for the Colorado River valley are based on groundwater recharge estimates in the bordering areas, which have not significantly changed through time. In most areas adjacent to the Colorado River valley, groundwater pumpage is small and pumping has not significantly affected the quantity of groundwater discharged to the Colorado River valley. In some areas where groundwater pumpage exceeds the quantity of groundwater discharge and water levels have declined, the quantity of discharge probably has decreased and groundwater inflow to the Colorado River valley will eventually be reduced if not stopped completely. Groundwater discharged at springs below Hoover Dam is unused and flows directly to the Colorado River. Flooding was particularly severe in the Seward area of the Kenai Peninsula and in tributaries to Susitna River from Telkeetna downstream. Flood damage has been estimated at $20 million and the region was declared a Federal disaster area. Throughout the area, many streams exceeded previously known flood heights and discharges and, in many cases, the recurrence interval of peak discharges exceeded 100 years.\r\n\r\nThe peak stage and discharge for the maximum previously known flood and the November 1985 flood are compared. The purpose of the study was to collect baseline data on concentrations of suspended sediment and selected trace metals in streamflow. Included in this report are tables of daily data for mean streamflow, suspended sediment concentration, and suspended sediment discharge at two streamflow gaging stations on the Clark Fork; periodic data for instantaneous streamflow, onsite water quality, and trace metal and suspended sediment concentrations in the Clark Fork and tributaries; and summary statistics for all the water quality data. Also included are graphs for each site showing median concentrations of trace metals, relationship of concentrations of trace metals to suspended sediment, and median concentrations of trace metals in suspended sediments. Hydrographs for two sites on the main stem show daily mean streamflow, suspended sediment concentration, and suspended sediment discharge for the period of study. Concentrations ranging from 200 to 300 micrograms per liter in the Madison River near the park boundary are diluted downstream by tributary inflows to the Madison and Missouri Rivers. However, significant amount of arsenic are present in the water of the Missouri River as it enter Fort Peck Lake. A monitoring network of 24 stations was operated during 1985 and 1986 in the upper Missouri River basin to measure arsenic concentrations and arsenic discharges. Additional monitoring at nine stations was conducted during March to July 1987 to supplement the data base. This report presents data acquired from the 1987 monitoring period. Regression analysis was used to fill in the missing data. Data were tabulated for monthly discharge (acre-feet) and sediment load (tons, acre-feet, and percent by weight). Yearly totals and cumulative averages were computed and included in the tables.</p>\n<p>An estimated 10,300 acre-feet (wet volume) of sediment has been deposited in Lake Corpus Christi during the 14-year period of record (1972-85), an average of 736 acre-feet per year (wet volume). An earlier study by the U.S. Soil Conservation Service, based on 1942-48 changes of lake bottom contours, estimated that 736 acre-feet per year of suspended sediment had entered Lake Corpus Christi during that 6-year period.</p>\n<p>Some difference was found in comparison of the results of the U.S. Geological Survey (Water Resources Division) study and the McCaughan and Etheridge Consulting Engineers study. Total sediment outflow from Lake Corpus Christi was estimated at 177 acre-feet (dry) by the Geological Survey and 1,070 acre-feet (dry) by McCaughan and Etheridge Consulting Engineers.
