These trace-element characteristics are typical of A-type granites found in other areas of the world. In spite of the wide range in trace-element contents, no samples contained economically significant concentrations of a single element.
\nSamples range from peralkaline to strongly peraluminous; most are weakly peraluminous or metaluminous. All three subgroups (peralkaline, metaluminous, and peraluminous) are enriched in uranium and hafnium and are depleted in compatible elements. The peralkaline granites are generally enriched in yttrium and niobium - the strongly peraluminous granites in rubidium and tantalum; both groups are also somewhat enriched in the heavy-rare-earth elements. Several of the peraluminous granites are known to be tin-bearing and, like tin-bearing granites found elsewhere in the world, their chondrite-normalized, rare-earth-element patterns are flat and have large negative europium anomalies.
\nSamples from several plutons have very anomalous ratios for geochemically similar elements such as yttrium and holmium, niobium and tantalum, and zirconium and hafnium. These ratios may reflect differential complexing with a halogen-rich aqueous phase that may be characteristic of plutons that have been subjected to an ore-forming process. A program to test these hypotheses, through study of known mineralized areas and laboratory experiments, should be implemented.
\nThe regional trends for the chemical data and geochemical correlations over the large area sampled, suggest that the postorogenic granites were derived from a single protolith that formed by the mixing of oceanic sediments from the west, continental sediments from the east.

The models are based on growing condition preferences and on psychological inferences regarding grower behavior. Experiences of local law officials were used to derive the initial model, which was updated and improved as data from crop finds were archived and statistically analyzed. The predictive models are changed as crop locations are moved in response to the pressures of law enforcement.
The models use spatial data in a raster geographic information system. The spatial data are derived from the U.S. Geological Survey's US GeoData, standard 7.5-minute topographic quadrangle maps, interpretations of aerial photographs, and thematic maps. Updating of cultural patterns, canopy closure, and other dynamic features is conducted through interpretation of aerial photographs registered to the 7.5-minute quadrangle base. The model is used to numerically weight various data layers that have been processed using spread functions, edge definition, and categorization.
The building of the spatial data base, model development, model application, product generation, and use are collectively referred to as the Area Reduction Program (ARP). The goal of ARP is to provide law enforcement officials with tactical maps that show the most likely locations for narcotic crops.

The geology of the area is well understood, and this geochronologic and isotopic study confirms that the Afif terrane was a continental microplate in the late Proterozoic. The study also provides a time frame for the crustal evolution of this part of the Shield. U-Pb zircon age data from a pelitic garnet-sillimanite gneiss of the Kabid formation shows that this part of the continental basement in the Afif terrane may be as old as 1830 Ma. Isotope data indicate that lead from the Kabid gneiss resided in the upper continental crust for a long period before 1830 Ma, and require that Archean rocks exist at depth beneath the Afif terrane.
\nLead isotope data reveal a change in the nature of the underlying crust, from continental basement in the northeast, to less radiogenic, marginal arc rocks in the southwest. This change is coincident with both aeromagnetic data, and a fades change within a pre-collision marginal basin. Miogeosynclinal continental shelf fades of the Siham group lie unconcormably over the Kabid formation, and are in the area of continental lead signatures. Eugeosynclinal deep water sediments and volcanics, in association with ultramafic rocks, occur in the area of marginal arc signatures.
\nU-Pb zircon age determinations show that this \"Andean\" continental margin developed before about 720 Ma, and emplacement of calc-alkaline plutonic rocks continued until about 690 Ma. During the period 690-640 Ma, the continental Afif microplate collided with the Asir terrane as part of the Nabitah orogeny. At approximately 640 Ma ago, the Najd strike-slip orogen commenced with a dextral phase that controlled the emplacement of granitic plutons as well as the development of a series of large pull-apart grabens. Some of these grabens were floored by new oceanic crust and were filled with volcano-sedimentary rocks of the Bani Ghayy group. Subsequently, the Najd fault system changed to sinistral strike slip motion at about 620 Ma ago.

An essential element of this investigation is the design and construction of a monitor well network in the lower saline water-bearing zone which occurs at about 2,000 ft below land surface. During 1985, a well near Ponte Vedra in northeast St. Johns County was completed into the lower saline water-bearing zone at a depth of 1,980 to 2,035 ft below land surface. This well and other wells drilled under this or other programs will be used to monitor water levels and water chemistry of the lower saline zone. Chloride concentrations in water above the lower saline zone ranged from 14 to 270 mg/L and specific conductance ranged from 450 to 1,440 micromhos/cm c. In the lower zone, chloride concentrations were as much as 16,210 mg/L and specific conductance as much as 46,000 micromhos per centimeter. Aquifer head and artesian flow from the well generally increased with depth. Water temperatures also increased from 23 C in the upper part of the aquifer to more than 28 C in the lower saline zone.
