These data include summary logs of 64 test holes drilled in or adjacent to the study area. Water level data for 240 wells are included. These wells were measured in spring and fall of 1982 and spring of 1983. Water quality samples were collected from 62 irrigation wells. Water quality data include analyses for 18 routine constituents on samples from all wells and analyses for 8 trace constituents on samples from 25 wells. Rainfall data were collected at 30 sites by local observers from April 1982 to October 1983. Surface water data for 103 stream sites in the study area are included. Water discharge was measured at these sites as part of seepage surveys conducted from 1978 to 1982 to determine where and how much streams were gaining or losing water. This report presents the results of the hydrologic data collection on new largecapacity and other selected wells, including well location and completion data, drillers' logs of the strata penetrated, water levels, and chemical quality of the produced water. These water-well data are supplementary to similar data on older wells in these counties and descriptive evaluations of the ground-water resources which have been published S. Geological Survey with partial support provided by Electric Power Research Institute to record the aftershock sequence of the moderate (mb ~ 4.9) earthquake that occurred on January 31, 1986 (16:46:43 UTC) near Painesville, Ohio. The occurrence of the event has raised questions concerning possible contributory factors to the occurrence of the event and questions concerning the character of earthquake-induced high-frequency ground motions in the area. To aid in the timely resolution of the implications of some of these questions, this preliminary report provides copies of the ground motion time-histories and corresponding spectra for the six identified aftershocks and two events, thought to be quarry blasts, recorded as of February 10, 1986. Water resources appraisals in Florida are highly diversified, ranging from hydrologic records networks to interpretive appraisals of water resources and applied research to develop investigative techniques. Thus, water resource investigations range from basic descriptive water-availability studies for areas of low-intensity water development and management to sophisticated cause and effect studies in areas of high-intensity water development and management. The interpretive reports and records that are products of the investigations are a principal hydrologic foundation upon which the plans for development, management, and protection of Florida 's water resources may be based. When scour depth exceeds design limits, the supporting material around the footings is washed away and the structure becomes unstable. Equations for predicting scour-depth show a significant lack of agreement so portable equipment for measuring scour is needed.</p>\n<p>This report discusses the design of an instrumented, unmanned boat that (a) can be launched and controlled from a bridge and (b) can be maneuvered in flood flows that reach velocities of 15 feet per second. Calculations indicate the battery-powered propulsive system alone will weigh about 300 pounds and that the craft must be about 15-feet long.</p>\n<p>Because a free-running craft will be undesirably heavy and large, other methods of obtaining scour data are proposed.
