The Savannah Roadless Area is underlain by sedimentary rocks having low potential for oil and gas and minerals. The low potential for oil or gas notwithstanding, the possibilities for discovery cannot be ruled out because the area and nearby lands have not been thoroughly explored. No minerals have been mined within the Savannah Roadless Area, and the only production nearby has been the digging of clayey sand used in stabilizing U.S. Forest Service roads. Fuller's earth, quartz sand and gravel, clayey sand, and common clay presently are produced elsewhere in the region, and limestone and peat have been produced in the past. No clay suitable for structural clay products or fuller's earth is present in the roadless area; however, a bed of quartz sand and gravel of excellent quality was penetrated at a depth interval of 37-50 ft by one drill hole. Although this bed is coarser grained-and therefore is more suitable for many uses-than the sand deposits worked elsewhere in the Big Bend region, its mineral resource potential is reduced by the thickness of overburden above it and by its distance from markets in population centers. The Apalachicola National Forest has been explored for phosphate and reconnoitered for heavy minerals, but no valuable deposits of either have been found.

In general, only articles dealing primarily with the avian disease are included, as opposed to those concerned with the various aspects of the biology of Clostridium botulinum, either type C or E. A few exceptions, such as Bengtson's report of the first isolation and description of the type C organism, are included for their historical interest. Progress reports and other administrative documents not available for distribution on request are excluded, as are most textbook accounts, which are generally summaries of work published elsewhere.
This bibliography was a cooperative effort by the National Wildlife Health Laboratory, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the U.S. National Park Service. The National Park Service provided partial funding for the work through Contract No. 89100-0491.

Similar geochemical surveys based on trace-element analyses have been credited with the discovery of many types of mineral deposits (Hawkes and Webb, 1962). No metallic mineral deposits other than iron Md manganese are known in the sequence of rocks exposed in the study area, and no evidence of any other deposit was found in the geochemical studies. Samples collected by the author, assisted by M. B. Longacre in May 1979 and A. E. Grosz in April 1980, include 39 stream sediments, 17 soils, and 120 rocks.

Areas officially designated as \"wilderness,\" \"wild,\" or \"canoe\" when the act was passed were incorporated into the National Wilderness Preservation System, and some of them are presently being studied. The act provided that areas under consideration for wilderness designation should be studied for suitability for incorporation into the Wilderness System. The mineral surveys constitute one aspect of the suitability studies. The act directs that the results of such surveys are to be made available to the public and be submitted to the President and the Congress. This report presents the results of a mineral survey of the Ramseys Draft Addition, which is a roadless area adjoining Ramseys Draft Wilderness Study Area in the George Washington National Forest, Augusta and Highland Counties, Virginia. The area was classified as a further planning area during the Second Roadless Area Review and Evaluation (RARE II) by the U.S. Forest Service, January 1979.

C., and is underlain by complexly folded, high-grade metamorphic rocks. These rocks contain a few small, subeconomic deposits of sheet muscovite mica that have a small potential for scrap mica. Quartz as a source of silica (SiO2) and gneiss and schist suitable for common building stone and crushed rock are the only identified economic mineral resources. Other minerals and rocks, including kaolin, soapstone, copper, corundum, and dunite, have been prospected or mined nearby, but either they do not occur or have no current economic potential in the wilderness. A possibility exists for the presence of natural gas at depths greater than 5,000 ft (1,500 m).

Many workers have studied the section over the past 130 years, paying most attention to the fossiliferous Sankaty Sand. The earliest study was by Desor and Cabot (1849) followed by Verrill (1875), Cushman (1904), Wilson (1906), and Gustavson (1976). Currently the section at the cliff is exposed as a result of erosion during a severe winter storm in 1978. The exposure allowed a detailed study of the selection and the results of the study are included in this report and three others (Oldale and others 1981; Oldale, 1981; and Oldale and others, in press). The last report discusses the stratigraphy, structure, absolute age, and paleontology of the deposits at Sankaty Head. The southern part of the Sankaty Head cliff, where the most complete marine section is, has been stable and obscured by dense vegetation over many of the past 130 years. In the future, the cliff face could again become stabilized and overgrown, or continued erosion could destroy some of the beds now exposed. These photographs provide a record of the cliff face, beds, and structures looked in 1979. Finally, the Sankaty Head section is realtively remote, and these photographs together with a geologic profile of the cliff shown by Oldale and others (1981) may substitute for field trips to the site, albeit a somewhat less satisfying experience.

The U. S. Geological Survey urban rainfall-runoff model was used to generate long-term flood-discharge record for gaged streams in the area. Simulated and recorded annual-peak data were subjected independently to log Pearson III frequency analyses. The results were weighted to determine appropriate discharges for selected 2-, 5-, 10-, 25-, 50-, and 100-year recurrence intervals. These T-year values were then used as the dependent variables in a multiple regression analysis. The independent variable determined to be statistically significant and retained in the resulting equations were drainage area and an urbanization index that expresses the degree of urban development. Analysis of the results shows that a land-use change from rural to fully urbanized is accompanied by a 180% increase in discharge of a flood with a 5-year recurrence interval and about 100% increase in discharge of a flood with a 100-year recurrence interval.

Areas officially designated as \"wilderness,\" \"wild,\" or \"canoe\" when the act was passed were incorporated into the National Wilderness Preservation System, and some of them are presently being studied. The act provided that areas under consideration for wilderness designation should be studied for suitability for incorporation into the Wilderness System. The mineral surveys constitute one aspect of the suitability studies. The act directs that the results of such surveys are to be made available to the public and be submitted to the President and the Congress. This report discusses the results of a mineral survey of the Hercules Glades Wilderness, Mark Twain National Forest, Taney County, Missouri.

Geohydrologic data are compiled on six maps at 1:24,000 scale. Together, the maps provide a comprehensive overview of a major valley-fill aquifer in southeastern Steuben County. The maps include surficial geology, geologic sections, water-infiltration potential of soil zone, aquifer thickness, potentiometric-surface elevations, and land use. The valley-fill deposits consist of alluvial silt, sand, and gravel, glacial-outwash (sand and gravel), till, and lacustrine silt and clay. The sand and gravel beds have relatively high permeabilities, whereas the till and silt deposits have relatively low permeabilities. Water-table conditions prevail in unconfined sand and gravel along the valley margin. Artesian conditions are found locally in sand and gravel confined under silt and clay in the middle of the valley. Recharge occurs nearly everywhere on the valley floor, but principally along the margin of the valley, where highly permeable land surface conditions exist, and runoff from the hillsides is concentrated. The use of land overlying the aquifer is a mixture of residential, commercial, agricultural, and industrial uses.

The southeastern part of the quadrangle, bounded on the northwest and northeast by Buffalo Mountain and Russell Fork faults, consists of highly faulted rocks ranging in age from Early Cambrian to Middle Pennsylvanian (Miller and Meissner, 1977). The coal-bearing rocks in the northwestern two-thirds of the quadrangle are bisected by the Russell Fork fault. The rocks southwest of the fault, which are part of the Cumberland overthrust block (Wentworth, 1921), have been displaced approximately four miles to the northwest (Englund, 1971) along the concealed Pine Mountain overthrust. Because the rocks of the Norton Formation are displaced laterally by the Russell Fork fault, the coal bed sequences across the fault do not match. For this reason the resources are shown separately for the coal beds north and south of the fault (table 1). The stratigraphic section from the Gladeville Sandstone to the Tiller coal bed is thicker to the south of the fault than it is to the north, as illustrated in figures 16 and 17. The Puncheon Camp, a locally important coal bed, is present only south of the fault.
