Areas officially designated as \"wilderness,\" \"wild,\" or \"canoe\" when the act was passed were incorporated into the National Wilderness Preservation System, and some of them are presently being studied. The act provided that areas under consideration for wilderness designation should be studied for suitability for incorporation into the Wilderness System. The mineral surveys constitute one aspect of suitability studies. The act directs that the results of such surveys are to be made available to the public and be submitted to the President and the Congress. This report discusses the results of a mineral survey of the Mokelumne Wilderness, El Dorado National Forest, Amador, Calaveras and Alpine Counties, California and Caples Creek, Raymond Peak, and Tragedy-Elephants Back Roadless Areas, Alpine, Amador, Ca 1 aver as, and El Dorado Counties, California. The Mokelumne Wilderness was established by Public Law 88-577, September 3, 1964, the Roadless Areas were classified as further planning areas during the Second Roadless Area Review and Evaluation (RARE II) by the U.S. Forest Service, 1979.&nbsp;</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","publisherLocation":"Reston, VA","doi":"10.3133/mf1201D","usgsCitation":"McKee, E.H., Chaffee, M.A., Federspiel, F.E., McHugh, E.L., Cather, E.E., Scott, D., and Rumsey, C.M., 1982, Mineral resource potential map of the Mokelumne Wilderness and contiguous roadless areas, central Sierra Nevada, California: U.S. Geological Survey Miscellaneous Field Studies Map 1201, Report: 10 p.; 1 Sheet: 41.11 x 34.66 inches, https://doi.org/10.3133/mf1201D.","productDescription":"Report: 10 p.; 1 Sheet: 41.11 x 34.66 inches","onlineOnly":"N","additionalOnlineFiles":"N","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":184651,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/mf1201D.PNG"},{"id":309404,"rank":2,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/mf/1201-D/plate-1.pdf","text":"Plate","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":309403,"rank":1,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/mf/1201-D/report.pdf","text":"Report","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"scale":"62500","country":"United States","state":"California","otherGeospatial":"Mokelumne Wilderness","geographicExtents":"{ \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\", \"features\": [ { \"type\": \"Feature\", \"properties\": {}, \"geometry\": { \"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [ [ [ -120.25,38.416666666666664 ], [ -120.25,39 ], [ -119.75,39 ], [ -119.75,38.416666666666664 ], [ -120.25,38.416666666666664 ] ] ] } } ] }","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4b24e4b07f02db6ae474","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"McKee, Edwin H. mckee@usgs.gov","contributorId":3728,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"McKee","given":"Edwin","email":"mckee@usgs.gov","middleInitial":"H.","affiliations":[],"preferred":true,"id":260094,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Chaffee, Maurice A. mchaffee@usgs.gov","contributorId":4047,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Chaffee","given":"Maurice","email":"mchaffee@usgs.gov","middleInitial":"A.","affiliations":[{"id":171,"text":"Central Mineral and Environmental Resources Science Center","active":true,"usgs":true}],"preferred":true,"id":260099,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2},{"text":"Federspiel, Francis E.","contributorId":28290,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Federspiel","given":"Francis","email":"","middleInitial":"E.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":260093,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":3},{"text":"McHugh, Edward L.","contributorId":77157,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"McHugh","given":"Edward","email":"","middleInitial":"L.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":260096,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":4},{"text":"Cather, Eric E.","contributorId":54341,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Cather","given":"Eric","email":"","middleInitial":"E.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":260098,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":5},{"text":"Scott, Douglas F.","contributorId":69220,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Scott","given":"Douglas F.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":260097,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":6},{"text":"Rumsey, Clayton M.","contributorId":50514,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Rumsey","given":"Clayton","email":"","middleInitial":"M.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":260095,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":7}]}}

Mineral deposits in the study area have been mined or prospected intermittently since about 1900, and production of small tonnages of ores containing gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc, and tungsten has been recorded. Extensive exploration and development currently (1981) is underway at a molybdenum prospect about 65 km east of Ketchikan. Our mineral-resource assessment indicates that the area contains potentially significant amounts of those metallic commodities, as well as of molybdenum, iron, antimony, and barite. The results of these studies have been published in a folio of maps accompanied by descriptive texts, diagrams, tables, and pertinent references. The present report serves as a guide to these investigations, provides relevant background information, and integrates the component maps and reports. It also describes revisions to the geology based on studies completed since the folio was published and includes a list of specific and general references on the geology and mineral deposits of the study area.","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/cir855","usgsCitation":"Berg, H., 1982, The Alaska Mineral Resource Assessment Program: Guide to information about the geology and mineral resources of the Ketchikan and Prince Rupert quadrangles, southeastern Alaska: U.S. Geological Survey Circular 855, iii, 24 p., https://doi.org/10.3133/cir855.","productDescription":"iii, 24 p.","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":391884,"rank":3,"type":{"id":36,"text":"NGMDB Index Page"},"url":"https://ngmdb.usgs.gov/Prodesc/proddesc_23951.htm"},{"id":139234,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/circ/1982/0855/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":31265,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/circ/1982/0855/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"country":"United States","state":"Alaska","otherGeospatial":"Ketchikan and Prince Rupert quadrangles","geographicExtents":"{\n  \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\",\n  \"features\": [\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              -132,\n              54.717\n            ],\n            [\n              -130,\n              54.717\n            ],\n            [\n              -130,\n              56\n            ],\n            [\n              -132,\n              56\n            ],\n            [\n              -132,\n              54.717\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    }\n  ]\n}","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4ad5e4b07f02db6835c1","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Berg, Henry C.","contributorId":73176,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Berg","given":"Henry C.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":148308,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

Geohydrologic data are compiled on six maps at 1:24,000 scale. Together, the maps provide a comprehensive overview of a major valley-fill aquifer in southeastern Rockland County. The maps include surficial geology, geologic sections, water-infiltration potential of soil zone, aquifer thickness, water-table elevations, well yields, and land use. The valley-fill deposits consists of alluvial silt and sand, glacial outwash (sand and gravel), ice-contact sand and gravel, till, and lacustrine silt and clay. The sand and gravel beds have relatively high permeabilities, whereas the till, silt, and clay deposits have relatively low permeabilities. Water-table conditions prevail in unconfined sand and gravel along the Ramapo River valley and much of the Mahwah River valley. Artesian conditions prevail in confined sand and gravel buried under silt and clay and till in parts of the Mahway valley. The aquifer is recharged throughout, where the land surface is most permeable and is greatest along the margin of the valley, where runoff from the hillsides is concentrated. The use of land overlying the aquifer is predominantly commercial, agricultural and residential, with lesser industrial uses. The geologic formations exposed in the quadrangle are comprised of Precambrian layered and intrusive rocks, Tertiary gabbro dikes, Quaternary basaltic lavas and pyroclastic rocks, and Quaternary surficial deposits. No economic mineral deposits have been found. \r\n\r\nThe Precambrian rocks include layered sedimentary and volcanic rocks that have been assigned to the Baish, Bahah, and Ablah groups. They have been folded, metamorphosed, and invaded by three separate intrusions. The Precambrian rocks are cut by Miocene gabbro dikes that were intruded during the initial stages of the opening of the Red Sea rift. The Quaternary rocks include basalt, and coastal, pediment, and alluvial deposits of various kinds. \r\n\r\nThe area is of special interest because of its unique display of the Tertiary and Quaternary basaltic volcanism that was associated with the opening of the Red Sea rift and that has continued in other parts of the Kingdom until historic times.","language":"ENGLISH","doi":"10.3133/ofr82288","usgsCitation":"Hadley, D.G., 1982, Reconnaissance geology of the Wadi Dhahaban Quadrangle, sheet 18/41 D, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 82-288, 1 map ;36 x 35 cm. on sheet 61 x 73 cm. +1 text (iv, 26 p. ill., maps ; 28 cm.), https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr82288.","productDescription":"1 map ;36 x 35 cm. on sheet 61 x 73 cm. +1 text (iv, 26 p. ill., maps ; 28 cm.)","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":135640,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0288/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":80609,"rank":400,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0288/plate-1.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":80610,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0288/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4a51e4b07f02db62a092","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Hadley, Donald G.","contributorId":19527,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Hadley","given":"Donald","email":"","middleInitial":"G.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":227135,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

Those in the Aqiq Ghamid area are the largest and the most numerous. The other three groups each consist of a few small workings. \r\n\r\nAll of the ancient mines are along quartz veins, many of which are associated with crosscutting felsic dikes. Most of the ancient mines of the Aqiq Ghamid area are in a zone of quartz veins, altered rocks, and felsic dikes in a quartz diorite phase of an elongate north-trending diorite intrusion of Precambrian age. In all areas, sulfides are rare and the silver contents are low. \r\n\r\nFurther exploration is suggested in three areas: the zone containing the Wadi Kara ancient mines, the northern part of the Aqiq Ghamid area, and the Aqiq Ghamid mine, which has an untested potential of 400,000 metric tons of 17 to 24 g/t gold ore.","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey,","doi":"10.3133/ofr82989","usgsCitation":"Worl, R.G., 1982, Reconnaissance investigations of ancient gold mines in the northwestern part of the Al Aqiq Quadrangle, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 82-989, 26 p., maps ;28 cm., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr82989.","productDescription":"26 p., maps ;28 cm.","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":145565,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0989/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":39636,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0989/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4a6ce4b07f02db63ea7d","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Worl, R.
