The sparsity of Nb is accompanied by low values for La, Sn, W, Y, and Zr and relatively high but insignificant values for Be and Mo. Base and precious metals are either below their respective limits of determination in the various sample media or are present at background levels commensurate with average crustal abundances in felsic rocks. Pegmatite dikes associated with the syenite plutons are rare and lack vermiculite. The data included results from analyses of 300 samples of storm water runoff. Turbidity, suspended solids, Kjeldahl nitrogen, and phosphorus concentrations exceeded the State of Hawaii Department of Health 's streamwater standards in more than 50% of the samples. Mercury, lead, and fecal coliform bacteria levels exceeded the U.S. EPA 's recommended criteria for either freshwater aquatic life or shellfish harvesting waters in more than half the samples. Other constituents exceeding State or federal standards in at least one sample included pH, cadmium, nitrate plus nitrite, iron, alkalinity, manganese, chromium, copper, zinc, and the pesticides heptachlor , lindane, and melathion. Runoff correlated well with rainfall in both basins. Antecedent rainfall conditions and rainfall intensity had little effect on the quality of runoff. No statistically significant relationships were found between quantity of runoff and concentration of water quality constituents. A ' first flush ' effect was observed for chemical oxygen demand, suspended solids, lead, nitrate plus nitrite, fecal coliform bacteria, dissolved solids, and mercury. There were significant (alpha = 0.05) differences between the two basins for values of discharge, turbidity, specific conductance, chemical oxygen demand, suspended solids, nitrate plus nitrite, phosphorus, lead, dissolved solids, and mercury. The larger basin had higher median and maximum values, and wider ranges of values. Most of these data were collected as part of specific ground-water studies conducted in cooperation with various federal, state, and local agencies. Ground-water quality data, as well as data on construction, yield, water levels, and other physical well parameters collected prior to 1982 are available from the U.S. Geological Survey, Oklahoma District Office.\r\nAlthough water-quality data for wells, test holes, and springs have been published, they are scattered through a variety of reports and are not readily available on a statewide basis. The purpose of this report is to make available all of the ground-water quality data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey in the Sate of Oklahoma. A similar profile defines losing and gaining reaches for the average 3-day minimum discharge, 20-year recurrence interval, and the variability of that discharge along the river channels. The average 3-day minimum discharge, 20-year recurrence interval, ranged from 2.4 cubic feet per second for the site on East Piney River to 45.6 cubic feet per second at the Vernon gage, farthest site downstream in the study area. On the Piney River, the lowest 3-day, 20-year discharge, occurs at river mile 23.5, 0.1 river mile downstream from the confluence of the East and West Piney Rivers. Comparison of discharge measurements to recorded August discharges at the Vernon gage shows that the measurements represent base-flow conditions in the Piney River basin. The measurements and analyses can be used to formulate water management plans for use during droughts.
