The slingram data were taken over an alluvial fan and pediments along the eastern flank of Syncline Ridge about 45 km north of Mercury, Nevada, on the Nevada Test Site. The data show that the more conductive argillaceous Eleana Formation varies in depth from 40 to 85 m from west to east along traverse lines. Northeast-trending linear anomalies suggest rather abrupt changes in subsurface geology that may be associated with faults and fractures. It provides the authority and guidelines which the Secretary utilizes for expeditious exploration and development of the OCS while ensuring timely access to information by affected states and local governments in order that appropriate planning will anticipate and ameliorate impacts from such OCS activities.</p><p>This document is prepared in accordance with Part 30 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Section 252.5 and 43 CFR, Section 3300.2, which require that the Directors of the U.S. Geological Survey and the Bureau of Land Management shall make available an Index, listing all relevant, actual or proposed programs, plans, reports, environmental impact statements and other lease sale information, on a regular basis, to each affected state and, upon request, to the executive of any local government whose jurisdiction covers an area affected by OCS activities. Accordingly, the Geological Survey and the Bureau of Land Management are cooperating in a joint effort to compile all relevant information on the OCS Oil and Gas Leasing Program in an Index with four volumes; Alaska, Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico and Pacific.</p><p>This volume is a listing of documents used in the Pacific Area OCS decisionmaking process, and the sequence of information presented parallels this process. The bibliographic references are presented by lease sale number, in the sequence in which the documents are generated in the Federal OCS leasing program. Thus, the reader may compare all documents of one type in the Pacific Area or trace a single lease sale throughout the entire leasing process. Activities which generate information throughout the OCS lease sale process are described under Other Documentation and Supplemental Reading. Other Documentation pertains to Federal data gathering and analysis programs which are an integral part of the OCS decisionmaking process and are used throughout the process due to the usefulness of their subject matter. Data from each sediment station and reservoir represented at least 7 years of sediment discharge in the plains area or 4 years of sediment discharge in the mountainous area. Results of the analysis show the approximate relations of sediment yield to basin characteristics in the plains area, but data for the mountainous area are insufficient to show any significant relation.</p><p>In the plains area the sediment yield was most closely related to contributing drainage area, mean streamflow, average thickness of loess, and average land slope. A regression equation, using these characteristics, estimates sediment yields with a standard error of +142 percent and -59 percent. The measured hydrocarbons are likely to have been derived from deep in the Neogene sedimentary section of the Eel River Basin. Their presence at the surface may indicate migration along fractures in or bordering the diapiric feature and seepage into unconsolidated sediments that are ponded locally within structural and bathymetric depressions. Realizing that potential, Pinellas County entered into a cooperative investigation with the U.S. Geological Survey to determine background water-quality conditions, and to evaluate the potential effects of landfill leachate on the quality of ground water at a landfill site in Pinellas County (fig. 1). The investigation started in May 1975 and landfill operation began in November 1975.</p><p>The purpose of this report is to make available well records, logs of wells, and surface- and ground-water quality data for planning purposes, and to provide basic data for a subsequent interpretive report.</p><p>From May 1975 to October 1977, surface- and ground-water samples were collected periodically to obtain information on certain background water-quality conditions at the landfill site. Specific conductance and pH were determined in the field. S. Geological Survey (USGS) in the Baltimore Canyon Trough area from July 1, 1975 to June 30, 1976. Environmental studies in the Baltimore Canyon Trough area were funded by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) under an interagency Memorandum of Understanding (08550-MU5-33). In accordance with this Memorandum of Understanding, the USGS submitted (in April, 1977) a comprehensive Final Report to the Bureau of Land Management that set forth all the methods, techniques, equipment, analyses, and interpretations that were employed or generated in the fulfillment of the contract requirements.</p><p>The present open file report is a synopsis of the twelve chapters and seven Appendices that made up the Final Report. Duplicates of illustrations and tables used in the Final Report have not been reproduced here and many references have been deleted. For illustrative material and complete reference lists, the chapters in the Final Report must be consulted. Sampling was conducted at fixed U.S. Geological Survey stations in South Bay, and at six new stations in Coyote Creek, on 17, 20, 25, 26 September and 3, 10 October 1979. Measured water-quality parameters were: salinity; temperature; turbidity; concentrations of selected dissolved gases (oxygen, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, ethylene, ethane); concentrations of dissolved inorganic nutrients (ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, silicate); and concentrations of chlorophyll a and phaeopigments, total coliforms, fecal coliforms, and fecal streptococci.
