Population of this 250-square-mile area increased about 50 percent between 1970 and 1976. The study area includes a small segment of the Willamette River alluvial valley near Canby, and extends northward to the Clackamas River and eastward to the western boundary of Mount Hood National Forest. Also included is the narrow, well-populated corridor along U.S. Highway 26 from Cherryville to Government Camp.</p><p>The main part of the study area is largely a rolling upland underlain by volcanic and stream-deposited rocks ranging in age from Eocene to Holocene. In most places, these rocks yield water in quantities adequate for individual homes. Locally, ground-water supplies are adequate for small irrigation, industrial, or public-supply uses. Depths of wells range from 50 to 1,000 feet; wells generally are shallowest in lowlands near streams and deepest in upland locations near deeply incised stream valleys.</p><p>All aquifers receive recharge at sufficient rates to sustain present rates of natural and man-produced discharge. All aquifers could supply additional water, but careful engineering is needed to avoid overdevelopment problems for the Columbia River Basalt Group near Oregon City.</p><p>Chemical analyses indicate that the ground water in the study area is of good quality for drinking and other uses. Mineralized water reported from some wells northeast of Canby may be from rocks of the Skamania Volcanics, which locally are at shallow depth. Although ground water locally may be subject to bacterial contamination where it occurs at shallow depths in alluvium and other unconsolidated deposits, no contaminated water was identified during the study.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/ofr801049","collaboration":"Prepared in cooperation with the Oregon Water Resources Department","usgsCitation":"Leonard, A., and Collins, C.A., 1983, Ground water in the northern part of Clackamas County, Oregon: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 80-1049, Report: v, 85 p., 2 Plates: 34.53 x 24.34 inches and 34.96 x 24.88 inches, https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr801049.","productDescription":"Report: v, 85 p., 2 Plates: 34.53 x 24.34 inches and 34.96 x 24.88 inches","onlineOnly":"N","additionalOnlineFiles":"N","costCenters":[{"id":518,"text":"Oregon Water Science Center","active":true,"usgs":true}],"links":[{"id":405726,"rank":4,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1980/1049/plate-1.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":405725,"rank":3,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1980/1049/plate-2.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":142557,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1980/1049/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":405724,"rank":2,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1980/1049/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"country":"United States","state":"Oregon","county":"Clackamas County","geographicExtents":"{\n  \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\",\n  \"features\": [\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              -122.76123046875,\n              45.01141864227728\n            ],\n            [\n              -121.84936523437499,\n              45.01141864227728\n            ],\n            [\n              -121.84936523437499,\n              45.45627757127799\n            ],\n            [\n              -122.76123046875,\n              45.45627757127799\n            ],\n            [\n              -122.76123046875,\n              45.01141864227728\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    }\n  ]\n}","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4ab0e4b07f02db66d750","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Leonard, A.R.","contributorId":101669,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Leonard","given":"A.R.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":160652,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Collins, C. Nonetheless, by analogy with uranium deposits studied elsewhere, exploration guides are suggested to include dense concentrations of linear features, lineaments -- especially with northwest trend, acidic plutonic rocks, and alteration indicated by limonite. \r\n\r\nA suite of digitally processed images of a single Landsat scene served as the image base for mapping 3,376 linear features. Analysis of the linear feature data yielded two statistically significant trends, which in turn defined two sets of strong lineaments. Color composite images were used to map acidic plutonic rocks and areas of surficial limonitic materials. The Landsat interpretation yielded a map of these exploration guides that may be used to evaluate relative uranium potential. One area in particular shows a high coincidence of favorable indicators.","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey,","doi":"10.3133/ofr8399","usgsCitation":"Lee, K., 1983, Landsat analysis for uranium exploration in Northeast Turkey: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 83-99, 45 p. ill., maps ;28 cm., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr8399.","productDescription":"45 p. ill., maps ;28 cm.","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":142519,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1983/0099/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":37796,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1983/0099/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4b20e4b07f02db6abdbf","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Lee, Keenan","contributorId":17604,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Lee","given":"Keenan","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":160624,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

Cumulative production is 445 BBO and annual production is 20 BBO. Demonstrated Reserves of crude-oil have declined over the past 10 years consistent with discoveries lagging production over the same period. The assessment of Undiscovered Resources shows a 90 percent probability that the amount discoverable lies between 321 and 1,417 BBO, 550 BBO being the most likely value. The most likely value for Ultimate recoverable resources is 1,718 BBO. The distribution of Ultimate Resources of crude oil will remain highly skewed toward the Middle East; no frontier areas that have potentials large enough to significantly affect present distribution are recognized. Rates of discovery have continued to decline over the past 20 years even though exploration activity has increased in recent years. Prudence dictates, therefore, that the low side of the assessment of Undiscovered Resources be responsibly considered and that alternate energy sources be a part of future planning. \r\n\r\nExtra-heavy oil and bitumen are assessed separately, with Reserves being figured as the annual productive capacity of installed facilities times 25 years. These modifications, together with land-use practices, led to downcutting, headward erosion, downstream aggradation, accelerated scour, and bank instabilities. Changes in gradient by channel straightening caused more severe channel response than did dredging or clearing. Large-scale changes continue to occur in all the channelized rivers: the Obion River, its forks, and the South Fork Forked Deer River. However, the non-channelized Hatchie River in west Tennessee not only withstood the natural stresses imposed by the wet years of 1973 to 1975 but continues to exhibit characteristics of stability. Water-surface slope, the primary dependent variable, proved to be a sensitive and descriptive parameter useful in determining channel adjustment. Adjustments to man-induced increases in channel-slope are described by inverse exponential functions of the basic form S=ae(-b(t)); where ' S ' is some function describing channel-slope, ' t ' is the number of years since completion of channel work, and ' a ' and ' b ' are coefficients. Response times for the attainment of ' equilibrium ' channel slopes are a function of the magnitude and extent of the imposed modifications. The adjusted profile gradients attained by the streams following channelization are similar to the predisturbed profile gradients, where no alteration to channel length was made. Where the channels were straightened by constructing cut-offs, thus shortening channel length, then slope adjustments (reduction) proceed past the predisturbed profile gradients, to new profiles with lower gradients. The deposit is situated in a steeply dipping fault system that cuts Proterozoic metamorphic rocks. The host rocks represent a submarine volcanic system with associated chert and iron- and sulfide-rich pelitic rocks. Where faulted, the more competent garnetiferous and quartzitic units behaved brittlely and created a deep, narrow conduit. \r\n\r\nThe ores formed 70-72 m.y. ago beneath 3 km of Phanerozoic sedimentary rocks. Mineralization included two episodes of alteration and three stages of vein-mineralization. Early carbonate-sericite alteration pseudomorphically replaced mafic minerals, whereas the ensuing hematite-adularia episode replaced only the earlier alteration assemblage. Early vein mineralization produced a minor sulfide-adularia-carbonate assemblage. Later vein mineralization generated the uranium ores in two successive stages. Carbonates, sulfides, and adularia filled the remaining voids. Clastic dikes composed of fault gouge and, locally, ore were injected into new and existing fractures. \r\n\r\nGeologic and chemical evidence suggest that virtually all components of the deposit were derived from major hornblende gneiss units and related rocks. The initial fluids were evolved connate/metamorphic water that infiltrated and resided along the extensive fault zones. Complex fault movements in the frontal zone of the eastern Front Range caused the fluids to migrate to the most permeable segments of the fault zones. Heat was supplied by increased crustal heat flow related to igneous activity in the nearby Colorado mineral belt. Temperatures decreased from 225?C to 125?C during later mineralization, and the pressure episodically dropped from 1000 bars. The CO2 fugacity was initially near 100 bars, and uranium was carried as a dicarbonate complex. Sudden decreases in confining pressure during fault movement caused evolution of CO2 and a consequent increase in pH. Uranium was released with destruction of the uranyl complexes; it was subsequently reduced by aqueous sulfur species, thereby leading to the precipitation of pitchblende.","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey,","doi":"10.3133/ofr83417","usgsCitation":"Wallace, A.R., 1983, Alteration and vein mineralization, Schwartzwalder uranium deposit, Front Range, Colorado: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 83-417, 186 p. ill. ;28 cm., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr83417.","productDescription":"186 p. ill. ;28 cm.","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":145473,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1983/0417/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":39426,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1983/0417/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4adee4b07f02db68751b","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Wallace, Alan R.","contributorId":6024,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Wallace","given":"Alan","email":"","middleInitial":"R.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":163345,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

Calcium, magnesium, and bicarbonate ions predominate in the more dilute ground and surface water. Thermal waters from springs and wells have concentrations of 900 milligrams per liter or more and are characterized by high concentrations of sodium and sulfate. Attempts to account for the origin of the hot springs on the basis of mixing relations and isotopic analyses were inconclusive; the springs may represent mixtures of thermal and nonthermal water which are altered by gases rising from sources beneath the caldera floor. Annual recharge to deep aquifers beneath the caldera is probably in the range 2,500 to 6,500 acre-feet. Observations in a Geological Survey drill hole suggest that part of the water may flow to aquifers at depths as much as 1,900 feet beneath the caldera floor. Results of 25 aquifer tests and permeability determinations from 43 sidewall cores show that the hydraulic characteristics of the aquifer are variable. Studies of the Carrizo showed that hydraulic conductivity increased as sand-bed thickness increased. Hydraulic conductivity averaged 29 feet per day for sand beds 25 to 100 feet in thickness and 40 feet per day for sand beds 100 to 200 feet in thickness. Based on the aquifer tests and sidewall core analyses, hydraulic conductivity does not increase with increased thickness for the Wilcox part of the aquifer. Permeabilities determined from sidewall cores ranged from less than 1 to more than 3,000 millidarcies (less than 0.002 to more than 7.3 feet per day). Values of hydraulic conductivity determined from aquifer tests ranged from less than 1 to 35 feet per day.
