Either the graphs or equations can be used to determine temperature corrections when given waters have Na-K-Ca calculated temperatures above 70? C and values of R less than 50, where R = {Mg/(Mg + Ca + K)} x 100 in equivalents. The programs, written for programmable calculators, are in widely divergent but commonly encountered languages and serve to illustrate the adaptability of the linear model to use in situations where access to true computers is not possible or economical. The analytical method assumes a semi-infinite aquifer which is uniform in thickness and hydrologic characteristics, bounded on one side by an impermeable barrier and on the other parallel side by a fully penetrating stream in complete hydraulic connection with the aquifer. Ground-water heads may be calculated for points along a line which is perpendicular to the impermeable barrie and the fully penetrating stream. Head changes at the observation point are dependent on (1) the distance between that point and the impermeable barrier, (2) the distance between the line of stress (the stream) and the impermeable barrier, (3) aquifer diffusivity, (4) time, and (5) head changes along the line of stress. The primary application of the programs is to determine aquifer diffusivity by the flood-wave response technique. This map shows the distribution and abundance of copper in stream-sediment samples.&nbsp;</p><p>Stream-sediment samples were collected at 569 sites from active stream channels and locally, from the interface of streambeds with intermediate- to low-tide beaches. Most of the stream sediment is fine- to coarse-grained sand, with a clay-silt fraction in streams discharging from glaciers.&nbsp;</p><p>The stream sediment samples were air dried and sieved through a 80-mesh (0.2 mm) sieve, and the minus-80 mesh fraction was saved for analysis. A split of each sample was analyzed for copper and 15 other elements by a semiquantitative spectrographic method (Grimes and Marranzino, 1968). Other splits were analyzed for gold and zinc by atomic absorption methods (Warren and others, 1969).</p><p>Sample sites and copper values (in parts per million) are indicated on the map by symbols identified in the histogram. The weakly anomalous values are considered to be significant only where they were detected in stream-sediment or heavy-mineral concentrate samples that also contained strongly anomalous values of other metals such as arsenic, gold, lead or tungsten.</p><p>The map shows two populations for copper in stream sediments. One population consisting of generally lower copper values represents the samples collected from the sedimentary terrane in the central and western parts of the quadrangles. The purpose of the gravity survey is to provide background geophysical data to evaluate the geothermal potential of the area. There are two programs. One is for plane strain motions, that is, motions in the plane perpendicular to the long axis of the structure, and the other is for antiplane strain motions, that is motions parallel to the axis. The seismic input is provided by specifying what the motion of the rock-soil boundary would be if the soil were absent and the boundary were a free surface. This may be done by supplying a magnetic tape containing the values of particle velocity for every boundary point at every instant of time. Alternatively, a punch card deck may be supplied giving acceleration values at every instant of time. In the plane strain program it is assumed that the acceleration values apply simultaneously to every point on the boundary; in the antiplane strain program it is assumed that the acceleration values characterize a plane shear wave propagating upward in the underlying elastic medium at a specified angle with the vertical. The nonlinear hysteretic behavior of the soil is represented by a three-dimensional rheological model. A boundary condition is used which takes account of finite rigidity in the elastic substratum. The computations are performed by an explicit finite-difference scheme that proceeds step by step in space and time. Computations are done in terms of stress departures from an unspecified initial state. Source listings are provided here along with instructions for preparing the input. The aquifers contain freshwater in an area of about 4,400 square miles in northern Mississippi. Water produced from the aquifers by public water systems and numerous industries in 1975 averaged about 4 Mgal/d. Regional water-level declines have been very small and the aquifers have a moderate potential for future development. The aquifers are used in some areas where there are no other significant sources of ground water. The most common problems in developing water supplies are low yields to wells and hard water. The 2-, 10- and 20-year low-flow frequency for 1-, 7-, 14- and 30-day durations have been determined for 143 continuous record stations, 46 partial record, and 56 miscellaneous sites in Oklahoma.
