Its frequency response is such that the recorded background noise at a moderately quite Coast Range site has a relatively flat 'record' spectrum from about 1/3 Hz to about 20 Hz. With the system magnification set so that the background noise is clearly recorded (about 1 mm peak-to-peak) one can anticipate that any seismic signal that exceeds background noise appreciably in this spectral region will be large enough to be seen on the seismogram. This response represents the highest sensitivity and broadest bandwidth that we were able to attain with a 1-Hz seismometer, a simple amplifier VCO employing very low-power integrated circuits, and an 8-channel constant-bandwidth FM subcarrier multiplex system for use with commercial voice-grade phone lines. The objectives were to estimate the density and porosity of the formations penetrated, and to determine the precision and repeatability of borehole gravity data in shallow wells. A detailed account of field techniques and analysis of data quality has been given by Byerley (1977). Three sedimentary and ten (10) crystalline rocks on the Explanation are arranged in order from softest, best bedded, most foliated and readily splittable - to hardest, most massive, and least readily These data have been analyzed using a simple-harmonic curve-fitting procedure. \n\nWhen the equation coefficients are known, calculations can be made for a given stream to estimate the maximum and minimum temperatures, the temperature on a given day, the day a given temperature is expected, or the length of time temperatures will exceed, or be less than, a specific.\n\nThe calculated harmonic coefficients were related to 23 topographic, basin, and climatic characteristics, and were analyzed by multiple-regression analysis techniques. The regional regression analysis for the harmonic- mean stream temperature, M, resulted in the following arithmetic function of station latitude (LAT).\n\nM = 41.36 - 0.7166 (LAT)\n\nThe multiple correlation coefficient (r) was .72. Poor correlations were found for the harmonic phase-angle and amplitude coefficients, C and A, respectively. Constants of 4.32 radians for C and 11.27&deg; Celsius for A are suggested as average statewide values in Indiana streams.
