The level of activity of oil and gas exploration on the Mid-Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) has remained constant, with two drilling rigs operating during the period from June through December 1980. Gas flows in two wells were announced in November, but neither has been shown to be commercial at this time.
A third lease sale in the Mid-Atlantic Region, Lease Sale 59, is scheduled to be held in December 1981. The proposed sale area is in deeper water, seaward of existing leased tracts. Recent drilling results and preliminary geophysical investigations indicate a greater potential for resources in this area than in the two earlier lease sale areas on the Mid-Atlantic OCS.
Onshore impacts from OCS exploration during this period have remained minimal at the two support bases serving the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Creek-Little Granite Creek area of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, western Wyoming","docAbstract":"Archeological Services of Laramie, Wyoming, undertook a Class II archeological reconnaissance of a large tract of land in a proposed wilderness area in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. The findings were to be submitted for inclusion in an Environmental Impact Statement being assembled by Land Management Services of Jackson, Wyoming. The study area is being considered for possible drilling sites in the near future.
The project area lies on the southwest slope of the Gros Ventre Mountain Range in the Cache Creek-Little Granite Creek area in Teton County, north-western Wyoming. A total of 16 prehistoric sites and isolated finds were recorded within or immediately adjacent to the study area boundaries. The total surface area covered amounted to 1857 acres (or 5.7%) of the 32,580 acres included in the study. An intensive surface evaluation was completed of all staked projects (well locations and access roads) in the survey area. Exploratory or evaluative testing is recommended for the Getty Reserve well location and in one area on the NCRA well access route. Some form of further evaluation is recommended at thirteen other localities.
Fieldwork was conducted during September, 1980, by archeologists from Archeological Services. Subsequent analysis included the application of a model of site predictability based on the statistical analysis of environmental factors, such as slope, aspect, vegetation, soils, fauna and proximity to water.

Data were collected routinely at five major stations and periodically at 14 intervening stations. Each major station represents a cross section through which the transport of selected dissolved and suspended materials will be computed. The intervening stations represent locations at which data were collected for special studies such as: salt water migration, dissolved oxygen dynamics, and other synoptic studies. About 960 samples were analyzed for silicate, Kjeldhal nitrogen, nitrite, phosphorus, chlorophyll and suspended sediment, with additional samples analyzed for organic carbon, calcium, magnesium, sodium, bicarbonate, sulfate, potassium, chloride, fluoride, seston and dissolved solids residue. In addition, about 1400 in-situ measurements of dissolved oxygen, specific conductance, temperature, and Secchi disk transparency are reported.

Iskander and S. Holyle during training here that focused on rapid-rock analytical procedures and on atomic-absorption spectrometric analyses. Because the training period was too brief to complete all required analyses on these samples, members of the BAL did additional determinations. These materials will serve as control samples when the newly learned techniques are implemented at the Cairo laboratory by M. Iskander and S. Holyle.

An additional 23 hours were spent reviewing the available literature (17 hours) and talking with various individuals who have an intimate and respected knowledge of the study area (6 hours).

The Post Headquarters well field, which produces more than 98 percent of the water used at White Sands Missile Range, pumped 712,909,000 gallons, which was 31.1 million gallons more in 1980 than in 1979. Data were collected for specific Range areas north of the Post Headquarters area that might have potential for future water-supply development.
