Removal of water, oil, and gas from the subsurface in Harris and Galveston Counties, Texas, has caused a decline in fluid pressures, which is turn had resulted in subsidence of the land surface. Subsidence of the land surface at Seabrook is due principally to the removal of water. Significnt subsidence of the land surface probably began after 1920, and a minimum of about 3.3 feet and a maximum of about 4.3 feet of subsidence had occurred at Seabrook by 1973.
\nProbable future subsidence was calculated by two different methods for each of two different loading situations. In the first loading situation, the artesian heads in the Alta Loma Sand (Rose, 1943) and Evangeline aquifer would continue to decline at the respective rates of 8 feet per year and 7 feet per year until 1980 and then cease. In the second loading situation, the artesian heads in the Alta Loma Sand and Evangeline aquifer would continue to decline at rates of 8 and 7 feet per year ulntil 1990 and then cease.

This bibliography lists alphabetically by author all reports prepared as a result of Geological Survey investigations in Texas, many of which were carried out in cooperation with the Texas Water Development Board and its predecessor agencies, river authorities, other State and local agencies, and other Federal agencies.

Although the Develco discriminators were designed for this application and a matching Develco compensation discriminator was purchased, effective use of this system for subtractive compensation has been blocked by the inadequate (frequency dependent) matching of the phase of the compensation signal to that of the data signal at the point compensation is carried out in the data discriminators. John Van Schaack has ameliorated the phase mismatch problem by an empirical alteration of the compensation discriminator input bandpass filter. We have selected a set (of eight) Develco discriminators and adjusted their compensation signal input levels to minimize spurious signals (noise) originating from tape speed irregularities. The sensitivity of the data discriminators was adjusted so that deviations of +125 Hz and -125 Hz produced output signals of +2.00 volts and -2.00 volts, respectively. The eight data discriminators are driven by a multiplex signal on a single tape track (subcarriers 680, 1020, 1360, 1700, 2040, 2380, 2720, and 3060 Hz). As petroleum reservoirs they commonly have poor performance histories. They contain the sediments of a depositional system comprised of three closely associated depositional subenvironments: dune, interdune, and extradune. Sediments of each subenvironment have different textural properties which resulted from different depositional processes. Dune sediments are usually more porous and permeable than interdune or extradune sediments and may be better quality reservoirs than interdune or extradune sediments. Interdune sediments are here restricted to those nondune sediments deposited in the relatively flat areas between dunes. Extradune sediments (a new term) include all deposits adjacent to a dune field and are mainly subaqueous deposits. Dune sediments may be enveloped by extradune sediments as the depositional system evolves resulting in a texturally inhomogeneous reservoir having poor fluid migration properties.\r\n\r\nThis model of textural inhomogeneity in eolian blanket sandstones. was applied to the Weber (Tensleep) Sandstone in Brady, Wertz, and Lost Soldier fields, Sweetwater County, Wyoming. Data were obtained from both outcrop and subsurface and included environmental interpretation, textural analysis, and plotting of the distribution of depositional subenvironments. As predicted from the model, the texture of dune sediments in Brady field differed markedly from interdune and extradune sediments. The predicted geometric distribution of subenvironments was confirmed in Lost Soldier and Wertz fields. However, secondary cementation and fracturing there has obscured the original porosity and permeability contrasts. Earthquakes were felt in September 1936, a few weeks after Lake Mead had reached its annual peak of about 100 m in maximum water depth. At the request of the Bureau of Reclamation, the Coast and Geodetic Survey began seismic investigations in 1937. A quadripartite net of short-period seismographs was installed in 1942 and operated until the early 1950's. Results of these investigations were reported by Mead and Carder (1941), Jones-(1944), Carder (1945), Carder and Small (1948), and Carder (1970).

These models are based on the proposition that the movement of a single bed-material sediment particle consists of a series of steps of random length separated by rest periods of random duration and, therefore, application of the models requires a knowledge of the probability distributions of the step lengths, the rest periods, the elevation of particle deposition, and the elevation of particle erosion. In the past, it has proven impossible to estimate these distributions except by use of tedious and time consuming single particle experiments.

This proposed operating plan could be followed successfully most of the time. Some periods of low flow, mainly in winter, would require drawdowns below the minimum stage to maintain minimum discharge. Occasional large floods occurring about once in 5 years would require surcharges over the maximum stage to limit the maximum discharge. The flowage could be filled from minimum to maximum stage withing 45 days (frequently fewer) starting from April 1.

The ore is associated with zones of oxidized slate. Although the known deposits are small, the oxidized zones are found over several square miles, and the prospects for additional ore are encouraging.
Deposits of stibnite and oxidized rock are also found in the Qila Viala area, about 25 miles east of the Qila Abdullah deposits. Geologic relationships in the two areas are similar and suggest that deposition of stibnite and quartz, accompanied by alteration of the host rocks, has taken place on a regional scale. This greatly increases the area to be investigated as well as the possibility that deposits of economic value can be found.
A program for further geological investigations is recommended.

One form of competition posing serious problems in indiscriminate development on flood plains along creeks and rivers. Flood plains are natural features of the landscape developed by streams in carry water in excess of channel capacity. Although not used as often by the stream, flood plains are as much a part of the stream system as is the channel. Whenever man competes with this natural function of the flood plain he must inevitably pay the price through property damage and varying degrees of human suffering Flood damages in the United States have been estimated to average about \\$1 billion annually (American Public Works Association, 1966.) This tremendous waste of national resources is borne not only by those citizens in direct contact with floods but also to a lesser degree by all citizens through increased cost of public services. Thus, floods are of concern to the entire community, and solutions to existing or potential problems should be a community effort.
