The virus had a buoyant density of 1.31 to 1.32 g/ml and a sedimentation coefficient of 148 S. The purified AEV was resistant to treatments with chloroform, acid pH or trypsin. The presence of Mg++ stabilized the virus against heat inactivation (56&deg;C, 1 h). Electron microscopic study showed the virus to be 24 to 32 nm in diameter. The surface structure of the purified virus was not easily discernable. Nevertheless, with uranyl acetate-stained particles, Markham's rotation technique revealed that AEV has five-fold symmetry with 32 or 42 capsomers. Sub-adults were flightless from late July to late August and the adult males were flightless from late August to mid September. Adult females were rarely flightless at Nelson Lagoon but commonly flightless at Izembek Bay. Steller's Eiders ate primarily bivalve mollusca and amphipod crustacea, with <i>Mytilus edulis</i> and <i>Anisogammarus pugettensis</i> the most important foods. Eiders took amphipoda prior to the wing-feather moult, bivalves during the wing-feather moult, and both types of invertebrates after the wing-feather moult. Steller's Eiders fed primarily at the low tide by diving (flock-feeding) or head-dipping, both during the day and at night. There was no difference in feeding behaviour between ages or sexes. Water from three principal aquifers supplies most municipal, industrial, irrigation, residential, and farm water needs in these counties. These are the sand-and-gravel, Niagara, and sandstone aquifers. As much as 15 gallons per minute can be obtained from wells almost everywhere in these counties. Yields of 500 to 1,000 gallons per minute are available from the sand-and-gravel aquifer in parts of Washington County. The Niagara aquifer underlies most of the area and can yield as much as 500 gallons per minute in most of Ozaukee and eastern Washington Counties. It yields less than 100 gallons per minute in some areas, notably eastern Mequon in Ozaukee County and parts of western Washington County. The sandstone aquifer underlies the entire area and generally can yield more than 1,000 gallons per minute to wells. The depth-limited open-coast facies identifiable by their sedimentary structures are the inner shelf, barred or nonbarred nearshore, beach, and coastal dune facies.  These facies are most commonly preserved in shallowing-upward progradational sequences.</p>\n<br>\n<p>The vertical sequence of sedimentary structures preserved in marine terrace deposits in the northern Monterey Bay region is very similar to that predicted on the basis of the modern facies.  Few marine sediments deposited during the marine transgression that accompanied rising sea level were preserved.  Most of the the marine and eolian sediments form a progradational sequence deposited mainly during intervals of falling sea level.  In contrast, the sediments that form the adjacent fluvial terraces were deposited mainly during periods of rising sea level and became entrenched during the subsequent lowering of sea level.  In combination, these fluvial, marine, and eolian deposits provide a record of a complete eustatic cycle.</p>\n<br>\n<p>The recognition of the role of changing sea level in controlling patterns of coastal sedimentation and landform development during the Quaternary allows the development of a generalized model for Quaternary sedimentation along a wave-dominated coastline.  The application of this model has aided in the interpretation of older Pleistocene sediments in the region (e.g. the Aromas Sand). The average annual rate of increase from 1960 to 1969 was about 6.3 percent. A documentation of the mineralogy and diagenetic history will aid in the exploration for natural gas and in the development of recovery technology in these low-permability sandstones. These sandstones are in the nonmarine upper part of the Mesaverde Formation (or Group) of Late Cretaceous age and are separated from overlying lower Tertiary rocks by a major regional unconformity. Attention is focused on the sandstone units of the Ohio Creek Member, which directly underlies the unconformity; however, comparisons between the mineralogy of the Ohio Creek strata and that of the underlying sandstone units are made whenever possible. The Ohio Creek is a member of the Hunter Canyon Formation (Mesaverde Group) in the southwestern part of the basin, and the Mesaverde Formation in the southern and central parts of the basin. The detrital mineralogy is fairly constant throughout all of these nonrnarine Cretaceous sandstone units; however, in the southeastern part of the basin, there is an increase in percentage of feldspar, quartzite, and igneous rock fragments in sandstones of the Ohio Creek Member directly underlying the unconformity. In the southwestern part of the basin, sandstones of the Ohio Creek Member are very weathered and are almost-entirely comprised of quartz, chert, and kaolinite. A complex diagenetic history, partly related to the overlying unconformity, appears to be responsible for transforming these sandstones into potential gas reservoirs. The general diagenetic sequence for the entire Upper Cretaceous interval studied is interpreted to be (early to late): early(?) calcite cement, chlorite, quartz overgrowths, calcite cement, secondary porosity, analcime (surface only), kaolinite and illite, and late carbonate cements. Authigenic high-iron chlorite, which occurs on grain rims and in pore throats, is primarily responsible for the low-permeability of the subsurface sandstones of the Ohio Creek Member in the center of the basin. Kaolinite is the most abundant pore-filling authigenic clay in these sandstones, from the southwestern part of the basin and is responsible for their distinctive white-weathering color in outcrop. In the sandstones below the Ohio Creek Member, however, chlorite and kaolinite occur locally, and authigenic calcite and illite are more abundant. The occurrence and distribution of secondary porosity is one of the most important aspects of the diagenetic history of these sandstones. It is present as moldic intra- and intergranular porosity, as well as microporosity among authigenic clay pariicles. The higher altitudes are underlain by the Conemaugh, Allegheny, and Pottsville Groups, which consist of sandstone, shale, and thin limestone and coal beds. The average yield of nondomestic wells in the Allegheny Group is 20 gpm (gallons per minute) and that in the Pottsville Group 100 gpm. Water from wells in these groups commonly has a high concentration of iron. Most of the rest of the Appalachian Plateaus province is underlain by the Burgoon Sandstone. The Lempa high is 25 km long and 16 km wide; closure is 150 m. The Salym field is about 275 km west of the giant Samotlor field.\n\nStratigraphy. Veins are concentrated near the border of the lower Paleozoic Vance County pluton, along its western contact with green-schist-facies metapelites and metavolcanic rocks of the Carolina slate belt. One of these quartz veins, the Snead-Walker, hosts the Tungsten Queen deposit. The vein is 0 to 10 m thick and trends N 35 degrees E for approximately 3,500 m through slate belt rocks and the granitic pluton. The deposit has been worked to a depth of nearly 520 m and contains eight en echelon ore lodes that plunge 42 degrees to 65 degrees between S 10 degrees E and S 10 degrees W. Ore lodes commonly are encased in thin lenses of quartz-sericite greisen. The principal ore mineral is huebnerite and is accompanied by scattered occurrences of pyrite, sphalerite, galena, chalcopyrite, and tetrahedrite. The gangue is predominantly quartz with minor amounts of fluorite, sericite, and carbonate.Studies of minor structures and mineral textures indicate that both the wall rock and the ore and gangue minerals within the vein have been deformed by at least two events. The first event produced relatively gentle, open, and shallow-plunging folds; later, an intense episode of right-lateral shearing developed steeply plunging, tight folds and numerous northeast-trending shears. This latter deformation also developed a prominent alignment of ore and gangue minerals oblique to the vein walls and may have formed the en echelon distribution of ore lodes.In relatively undeformed parts of the vein, clusters of euhedral huebnerite crystals are oriented perpendicular to vein layering. Some prismatic crystals have terminations with cappings of sulfides and in polished thin section show concentric growth zones. These features are similar to textures found in unmetamorphosed tungsten-bearing hydrothermal vein deposits such as those at Pasto Bueno, Peru; Carrock Fell, England; and Panasqueria, Portugal.
