This report contains discharge records for 69 gaging stations; stage only for 2 gaging stations; contents for 17 lakes and reservoirs; water quality for 13 gaging stations and 27 wells; and water levels for 21 observation wells. Additional water data were collected at various sites, not part of the systematic data collection program, and are published as miscellaneous measurements. These data represent that part of the National Hater Data System operated by the U.S. Geological Survey and cooperating State and Federal agencies.

water-quality management plan that includes establishing limits for liquid wastes discharged into Indiana streams. A digital computer model was used to predict alternatives for future waste loadings on Little Lick and Big Lick Creeks that would be compatible with Indiana stream water-quality standards defined for two critical hydrologic conditions, summer and winter low flows.
The model parameters included atmospheric reaeration, carbonaceous and nitrogenous biochemical-oxygen demand, and benthic-oxygen demand. The model was calibrated with data collected during three water-quality surveys at low flow. Verification of the model was not possible owing to varied effluent discharge during sampling. During these surveys, in-stream dissolved-oxygen concentration averaged less than 3 milligrams per liter, well below the State minimum requirement of 5.0 milligrams per liter. The model indicated that these low concentrations were caused by high waste loadings, lack of dilution, low reaeration, and benthic-oxygen demand.
The hypothetical summer waste-assimilation study assumed that future reductions in discharge Loadings would decrease carbonaceous and benthic decay and increase nitrogenous decay. This hypothetical study indicated that projected effluent waste loads that would provide acceptable in-stream dis-solved-oxygen concentrations are highly dependent on rates of nitrification. Ammonia toxicity became the limiting water-quality criterion at low nitrification rates.
The hypothetical winter waste-assimilation study indicated that projected dissolved-oxygen concentrations in Little Lick and Big Lick Creeks did not fall below the State standard. Owing to a lack of dilution, however, ammonia-nitrogen concentrations would violate in-stream toxicity standards in both Little Lick and Big Lick Creeks. In order to quantify the results of the waste-assimilation study, it would be necessary to collect additional stream data.

urbanization on the water quality of lakes in Eagan, Minnesota","docAbstract":"Water-quality characteristics of 17 lakes and ponds in the city of Eagan were described from data collected from 1972 through 1978. The data showed that differences in water quality between lakes were related to differences in the percentage of urbanization. However, water-quality variations within each lake were affected more by climatic variations than by land-use changes during that period.
\nDissolved solids, alkalinity, and chloride concentrations varied most in lakes with urbanized watersheds, in lakes with outlets, and in lakes less than 6 feet deep. Certain lakes without outlets showed an increase in chloride during the study, caused in part by urbanization but intensified by drought conditions of 1976-77.
\nFifteen of the lakes studied are less than 10 feet deep and frequently mix during open water. These lakes are highly eutrophic, primarily because of high nutrient loading and recycling of nutrients.
\nHolland and Fish Lakes, with depths of 52 and 30 feet, respectively, were the least eutrophic. These lakes limit continuous recycling of nutrients from bottom materials to water surface by thermal stratification and entrapment of nutrients in the hypolimnion.
\nThree phosphorus-prediction models developed during the study are applicable to shallow (less than about 12 feet), nonstratifying lakes and ponds. The data base was not sufficient to select an appropriate model to predict the effects of future loading from continuing urbanization on the deeper lakes.

Winter surveys are composed of the midwinter survey reports submitted from each of the four flyways and the midwinter survey covering a portion of the west coast of Mexico. The breeding ground surveys section is composed of many individual reports that provide breeding population and production estimates for most waterfowl species within a major portion of their breeding range. The waterfowl harvest survey provides estimates of waterfowl hunting activity and success. Information from surveys of the wintering and breeding populations of waterfowl, coupled with data from the annual harvest survey, are instrumental in developing annual hunting regulations for waterfowl.

Although some of the narrative statements have been condensed and a few tables deleted or condensed if they contain data presented elsewhere in this report, the essential information from each report has been retained. The breeding grounds survey strata (Fig. 1) for areas surveyed by Fish and Wildlife Service crews were renumbered in 1974.

These structures, known collectively as \"salt domes,\" are almost exclusively features of the terrigenous elastic margins of the northern and southwestern Gulf and the central Sigsbee Plain (sht. 2, A). Some salt structures may be present in the East Mexico Slope province of the western gulf, but they are difficult to distinguish from diapiric and nondiapiric shale anticlines, which are the dominant structures on this margin. Except for some piercement domes and nonpiercement uplifts in the northern Florida shelf region and in the eastern Golfo de Campeche, salt structures are not known in the extensive carbonate platform provinces off western Florida and the Yucatan Peninsula. The accompanying compilation from seismic-reflection data documents the distribution of Gulf of Mexico salt features and helps to define boundaries of structural provinces formed mainly, or in part, by tectonic movement of salt.

Most fishing piers, sea walls, or other waterfront improvements were destroyed or heavily damaged.

These data have been reexamined which resulted in some revisions of epicenters and intensities as well as assignment of intensities to earthquakes that previously had none assigned. Intensity values were updated from new and additional data sources that were not available at the time of original compilation. Some epicenters were relocated on the basis of new information. The data shown in table 1 are estimates of the most accurate epicenter, magnitude, and intensity of each earthquake, on the basis of historical and current information. Some of the aftershocks from large earthquakes are listed but are incomplete in many instances, especially for ones that occurred before seismic instruments were in universal usage.

These data have been reexamined which resulted in some revisions of epicenters and intensities as well as assignment of intensities to earthquakes that previously had none assigned. Intensity values were updated from new and additional data sources that were not available at the time of original compilation. Some epicenters were relocated on the basis of new information. The data shown in table 1 are estimates of the most accurate epicenter, magnitude, and intensity of each earthquake, on the basis of historical and current information. Some of the aftershocks from large earthquakes are listed but are incomplete in many instances, especially for ones that occurred before seismic instruments were in universal usage.
