The area was studied in 1973 by the U.S. Geological Survey and U.S. Bureau of Mines to evaluate its mineral, fuel, and geothermal energy potential. This evaluation is based on a search of the geologic literature, claim and production records, and fieldwork including mapping, inspection of claims and prospects, interpretation of aeromagnetic maps, and analyses of bedrock and stream-sediment samples.
Flat-lying Eocene volcaniclastic rocks of the Absaroka volcanic field are exposed in about two-thirds of the Du Noir Addition. These volcanics unconformably overlie the deeply eroded, northwest-trending Du Noir anticline in which Paleozoic marine strata of Devonian through Permian age are exposed. Of lesser importance are small deposits of Eocene non-volcanic conglomerate, and basaltic intrusive and extrusive rocks of late Pliocene and possibly younger age.
The results of this study indicate that the mineral, fuel, and geothermal potential of the Du Noir Addition are minimal. Low-grade copper-molybdenum mineralization occurs outside the addition, associated with intrusive rocks, but no indications of alteration or mineralization were found within the study area. Anomalous, but not economically important, concentrations of molybdenum and uranium were found in Permian and Eocene carbonaceous shales. Phosphate rock in the Phosphoria Formation occurs in beds too thin to constitute a resource. Large amounts of very pure limestone are present in the Madison Limestone, but equally pure limestone, much closer to transportation facilities, is found throughout this part of Wyoming. That part of the Du Noir anticline in the addition is too deeply eroded to be a likely reservoir of oil and gas. Present data indicates a low potential for geothermal energy in or near the addition.

The data suggest that the calc-alkalic Boulder batholith (0.002–0.5 ppb Ir, median 0.007) may be slightly enriched in Ir relative to the calcic Southern California batholith (< 0.001–0.12 ppb Ir, median 0.005). No conspicuous relationship between Ir content and differentiation parameters is evident; however, the Boulder batholith rocks do show a slight tendency to concentrate Ir in the more mafic rocks. Our results in conjunction with previous analyses of mafic rocks leads to a crustal-abundance estimate of 0.03 ppb Ir
This is the first report of an antigenic preparation from the spore stage of any histozoic sporozoan parasite. The method for successful extraction of the antigens is presented. This antigenic preparation is active in rabbits, but not salmonid fish. The detection of asymptomatic carrier fish using the spore antigens was not successful and evidence is presented to show that the parasite is successful because its antigens mimic those of trout. Immunoelectrophoresis indicates the parasite and trout antigens are different proteins.

The method for converting the measured shadow length into the true length in nature of the shadow hypotenuse is new and is applicable to other planetary bodies provided comparable spacecraft ephemerides are available. The measures were made with a simple surveyor's plotting scale on the standard Orbiter IV photographic enlargements. The results indicate that the smaller lunar (D < 30 km) craters are appreciably deeper than is indicated by earlier work using imagery obtained at terrestrial observatories.
Bald eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) found dead or moribund in the United States and Canada and submitted to Patuxent Wildlife Research Center were examined for helminth parasites. Nine genera of helminths were reported which include new host records for Clinostomum complanatum, Neogogatea pandionis, Centrorhynchus sp., Serratospiculum amaculata, Capillaria contorta, and Habronema americanum.

Grasslands are essential to prairie chickens, but vary widely in quality and thus in their ability to support prairie chickens. High-quality habitat is grassland providing residual vegetation averaging about 20 inches in height in spring and sufficiently dense to completely conceal a nesting prairie chicken. Annually grazed, annually hayed, or long-term (10 years or more) idled habitats are undesirable. The most successful method for maintaining high-quality nest-brood habitat is prescribed burning at 3- to 5-year intervals; such habitat may be established by seeding grass or grass-legume mixtures. Seeded habitat may be maintained by prescribed burning at 3- to 5-year intervals. Management units should contain at least 2 square miles of high-quality habitat within an area not to exceed 8 square miles. High-quality habitat blocks should be at least 160 acres with a minimum width of one-half mile. Most of the State is seismic risk zone 1, with a small part in the southeast corner in risk zone 2. the first significant earthquake felt in Nebraska occurred in 1867, the year that statehood was achieved. the tremor occurred on April 24, 1867, and was apparently centered near Lawrence, Kansas. It affected an area estimated at 780,000 km2 including much of Nebraska. Since 1867, at least seven earthquakes of intensity V or greater have originated within Nebraska's boundaries. Several strong earthquakes centered in neighboring States have also been felt over limited portions of Nebraska. None of these caused damage.

Both iodophors were much more toxic below pH 6.0 than at pH 8.0. In general Wescodyne was slightly more toxic than Betadine. Significant egg loss occurred if freshly fertilized eggs were water-hardened in either iodophor at 100 ppm of iodine, but egg loss at 25 ppm of iodine or at 100 ppm if the eggs were disinfected 30 min after water hardening was comparable to the control. Also, there was no effect on the egg mortality or fry development following single or multiple exposures after eggs were water hardened. At pH 6.0 and above, Wescodyne and Betadine at 100 ppm iodine in a 15-min dip would be safe to use on rainbow trout eggs at any stage of development after water hardening. Recommendations and precautions for hatchery use are given.

\nAn earthquake in Tennessee, centered about 30 miles south of Knoxville, caused minor damage in the Maryville-Alcoa area and was felt in seven Southeastern States. New Mexico experienced a sharp earthquake on December 24 that caused minor damage in the Grants area.
\nOther parts of the world suffered fatalities and significant damage from earthquakes. In Iran, an earthquake killed one person, injured many, and destroyed a number of homes. Earthquake fatalities also occurred in the Azores and in Algeria.

No neutralization of either virus was observed on exposure to heterologous antiserum. This indicates that there is no antigenic relationship between these two viruses as determined by this method.
