The Pacific Mountain System, near the west coast, receives large amounts of precipitation, has very mild temperatures, and contains perhaps 90 percent of the glacier ice. The Rocky Mountain or Eastern System, on the other hand, receives nearly an order of magnitude less precipitation, has temperatures that range from subpolar to subtropic, and contains glaciers that are much smaller in both size and total area.\r\n\r\nAs a contribution to the International Hydrological Decade program on combined balances at selected glaciers, the U.S. Geological Survey is conducting studies of ice and water balance on four glaciers in the Pacific Mountain System: Wolverine and Gulkana Glaciers in Alaska, South Cascade Glacier in Washington, and Maclure Glacier in California. Similar data are being collected by other organizations at five glaciers in western Canada, including two in the Rocky Mountain System, and at one glacier in the Rocky Mountain System in northern Alaska.\r\n\r\nGulkana, Wolverine, South Cascade, and Maclure Glaciers have dissimilar mass balances, and each is fairly representative of the glaciers for its particular region. Gulkana Glacier (lat 63 deg 15' N., Alaska Range, Alaska) normally has an equilibrium line at an altitude of 1,800 m (meters), an activity index of about 6 mm/m (millimeters per meter), a winter balance of about 1.0 m, and an annual exchange of about 2.2 m. (Balance values are given in terms of water-equivalent measure; the winter balance of 1 m, for example, indicates a volume of ice equal in mass to a volume of water 1 m in depth covering the area of the glacier.) The normal approximate parameters for the other glaciers studied are as follows: Wolverine Glacier (lat 60 deg 24' N., Kenai Mountains, Alaska) - equilibrium-line altitude 1,200 m, activity index 9 mm/m, winter balance 2.5 m, and annual exchange 5.5 m; South Cascade Glacier (lat 48 deg 22' N., North Cascades, Wash.) - equilibrium-line altitude 1,900 m, activity index 17 mm/m, winter balance 3.1 m, and annual exchange 6.6 m; and Maclure Glacier (lat 37 deg 45' N., Sierra Nevada, Calif.) - equilibrium-line altitude 3,600 m, activity index 23 mm/m, winter balance 2.3 m, and annual exchange 4.6 m.\r\n\r\nMass balances of these four glaciers and their drainage basins are measured annually by standard glaciological techniques. In addition, the hydrologic balance is calculated using streamflow and precipitation measurements. Combining these independent measurements results in fairly well defined values of water and ice balance for the glaciers and drainage basins. A revision of the standard International Hydrological Decade mass-balance system permits combination of annual and stratigraphic terms.\r\n\r\nThe annual balance of South Cascade Glacier at the end of the 1965 hydrologic year was slightly positive (+0.07 m averaged over the glacier), but continued ablation and deficient accumulation in October 1965 resulted in slightly negative net balances for both the glacier and the drainage basin. Factors tending to produce this near-zero balance were the above-average late-winter balance (3.48 m) and the numerous summer snowfalls. Ice ablation averaged about 39 mm of water per day during the main melt season. Runoff during the summer ablation season was lower than the 1958-64 average.\r\n\r\nThe South Cascade Glacier annual balance in 1966 (-0.94 m) was considerably more negative mainly owing to the deficient winter snowpack (the late-winter balance was only 2.52 m) and the warm dry summer. Ice ablation averaged about 44 mm of water per day during the melt season. The loss in storage of this and other glaciers in the North Cascades increased the runoff of many valley streams by approximately 50 percent during August and September.\r\n\r\nThe 1966 Gulkana Glacier annual balance was slightly positive (+0.06 m); on the basis of past observations and the rapid terminus ret","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/pp715A","collaboration":"A contribution to the International Hydrological Decade","usgsCitation":"Meier, M.F., Tangborn, W.V., Mayo, L.R., and Post, A., 1971, Combined Ice and Water Balances of Gulkana and Wolverine Glaciers, Alaska, and South Cascade Glacier, Washington, 1965 and 1966 Hydrologic Years: U.S. Geological Survey Professional Paper 715, 22 p., https://doi.org/10.3133/pp715A.","productDescription":"22 p.","temporalStart":"1964-10-01","temporalEnd":"1966-09-30","costCenters":[{"id":595,"text":"U.S. Geological Survey","active":false,"usgs":true}],"links":[{"id":140787,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0715a/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":12506,"rank":100,"type":{"id":15,"text":"Index Page"},"url":"https://www.nps.gov/history/history/online_books/geology/publications/pp/715-A/index.htm","linkFileType":{"id":5,"text":"html"}},{"id":33352,"rank":400,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0715a/plate-1.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":33353,"rank":401,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0715a/plate-2.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":33354,"rank":402,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0715a/plate-3.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":33355,"rank":403,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0715a/plate-4.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":33356,"rank":404,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0715a/plate-5.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":33357,"rank":405,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0715a/plate-6.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":33358,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0715a/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4b24e4b07f02db6ae731","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Meier, Mark Frederick","contributorId":30982,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Meier","given":"Mark","email":"","middleInitial":"Frederick","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":152278,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Tangborn, Wendell V.","contributorId":32152,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Tangborn","given":"Wendell","email":"","middleInitial":"V.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":152279,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2},{"text":"Mayo, Lawrence R.","contributorId":98344,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Mayo","given":"Lawrence","email":"","middleInitial":"R.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":152281,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":3},{"text":"Post, Austin","contributorId":90709,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Post","given":"Austin","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":152280,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":4}]}}

The area between Griffin, Zebullon, and the Flint River is underlain by biotite schist and biotite gneiss into which biotite granite has been intruded. Only along one stream, Flat Creek, which drains monazite-bearing granite near Zetella, Ga., are the tenors in monazite even moderately high, but a combination of thick, clayey overburden and discontinuous flood plains make the stream unsuitable for placer mining. Elsewhere in the Flint River area the heavy-mineral concentrates contain less than 1 percent monazite. \r\n\r\nThe southwesternmost area in which reconnaissance of the monazite belt was conducted includes a groups of southwest-flowing tributaries to the Chattahoochee River north of Pine Mountain and near La Grange, Ga. A combination of three characteristics of the alluvium make the area unfavorable for mining: (1) the upper half of the sedimentary sequence is clay and silt, (2) there is scant gravel, and (3) much of the sand is fine grained. Monazite is associated with the Snelson Granite, schists, and gneisses north of the Towaliga fault, but even in this area the tenor of most riffle sediments is only 0.1 to 0.5 pound of monazite per cubic yard, and the average tenor of the alluvium is about 0.2 pound per cubic Yard. Rocks south of the Towaliga fault contain scant monazite. The monazite-bearing area in the drainage basin of the Chattahoochee River has no monazite placers.\r\n\r\nEvidence from the areas on the Flint and Chattahoochee Rivers shows that streams in western Georgia are a much poorer source of monazite than streams farther to the northeast in Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Also, the northeastern part of the belt in the drainage basins of the Yadkin and Dan Rivers is a poorer source for monazite than the area between the Savannah and Catawba Rivers, S.C.-N.C. \r\n\r\nMonazite-bearing crystalline rocks in the western belt contain about 0.06 pound of monazite per cubic yard. Residual soil derived from the crystalline rocks contains about 0.3 to 0.4 pound of monazite per cubic yard, and colluvial sediments formed by sheet-wash from saprolite, residual soil, and, rarely, old stream deposits, have an average of 3.1 pounds of monazite to the cubic yard. The data on the tenors of residual and colluvial deposits are far less comprehensive than those an the quantity of monazite in the crystalline rocks, but the tenors are probably of the correct order of magnitude. Neither the crystalline rocks nor the residual soils are ores of monazite. Because the colluvial deposits are thin and have patch distribution they could not be mined independently, but some colluvium could be stripped from the adjoining hills in conjunction with the mining of alluvial deposits in the valleys. \r\n\r\nIt is most unlikely that alluvial monazite placers have formed in the trunk streams leading southeastward out of the monazite belt. Churn drilling on the Broad and North Tyger Rivers, South Carolina, at the east edge of the belt has shown that the bulk of the alluvium is fine-grained sediment that contains 0.2 to 0.4 pound of monazite per cubic yard--tenors that represent no considerable enrichment over those in the crystalline rocks and residual soils. The probable persistence of predominantly fine-grained alluvium downstream to the Coastal Plain and the certain dilution of monazite-bearing concentrates by the inflow of monazite-free suites of heavy minerals between the belt and the fall line suggest that the trunk streams east of the belt are the least favorable sources for alluvial monazite in the Piedmont?","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey,","doi":"10.3133/ofr71222","usgsCitation":"Overstreet, W.C., White, A.M., Theobald, P., and Caldwell, D.W., 1971, Selected fluvial monazite deposits in the southeastern United States: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 71-222, iv, 108 leaves :4 folded maps ;27 cm., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr71222.","productDescription":"iv, 108 leaves :4 folded maps ;27 cm.","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":146455,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1971/0222/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":44219,"rank":400,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1971/0222/plate-1.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":44220,"rank":401,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1971/0222/plate-2.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":44221,"rank":402,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1971/0222/plate-3.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":44222,"rank":403,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1971/0222/plate-4.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":44223,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1971/0222/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4a08e4b07f02db5fa31c","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Overstreet, William C.","contributorId":73586,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Overstreet","given":"William","email":"","middleInitial":"C.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":170908,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"White, A. The work consisted of a geohydrologic reconnaissance, well inventory, and test drilling. \r\n\r\nThe study sites are underlain by. Precambrian crystalline rocks, Tertiary sediments, or Quaternary glacial and alluvial deposits. The crystalline rocks are generally poor aquifers; however, some wells intercepting fractures may yield as much as 10 gallons per minute from wells 100 to 200 feet deep. Wells drilled in Tertiary sandstones to a depth of 50 to 500 feet may supply 1 to 50 gallons per minute. Wells drilled in unconsolidated glacial and alluvial deposits of Quaternary age yield the largest supplies of ground water in the Rocky Mountain National Park. These deposits commonly can supply 5 to 100 gallons per minute to wells.","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"U.S. Dept. of the Interior, Geological Survey, Water Resources Division, Colorado District,","doi":"10.3133/ofr71320","issn":"0094-9140","usgsCitation":"Welder, F., 1971, Ground-water reconnaissance of selected sites in Rocky Mountain National Park and Shadow Mountain National Recreation area, Colorado: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 71-320, iii, 16 p. :maps ;27 cm., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr71320.","productDescription":"iii, 16 p. :maps ;27 cm.","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":156916,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1971/0320/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":53825,"rank":400,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1971/0320/plate-1.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":53826,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1971/0320/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4aa7e4b07f02db667186","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Welder, F.A.","contributorId":104878,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Welder","given":"F.A.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":192618,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

The importance of water to a developing economy cannot be overemphasized. </p><p>A few decades ago, hydrology was a division of hydraulic engineering and was a tool for project survey, plan, and design. Today hydrology still remains an important part of planning and management of water use projects, but it is imperative that surface and ground-water basic data networks be designed and operated from the standpoint of both present and future water needs. Water problems are ever increasing and ever changing and preparation for the future water demands of Zambia requires knowledge of the hydrology of the country instead of the examination of piecemeal samples for each water use project. </p><p>The hydrologic survey of Zambia needs to be under the guidance of competent and imaginative hydrologists solidly trained in all elements of basic data collection and analysis and not in the hands of water project planners. Hydrology is a science which requires the highest order of teamwork and the hydrologist will need the help and advice of many employees within the organization to operate the network, provide adequate research, and examine the water needs of the country. It must be thoroughly understood that communication is essential between the hydrological survey and water project planners from both the government and private sectors. </p><p>It is very important to define the aims and duties of the Hydrological Branch of the Water Affairs Department in a clear cut \"Statement of Policy\". Personal copies of the statement should be made available to all professional employees and technicians. The reasons for the existence of the Branch may be self-apparent to heads of the organization, but to all other employees the reasons may be vague and unknown. Every member of the technical and administrative staff would benefit by an understanding of the purpose of his work. Nebulous ideas of the function of a hydrological survey of Zambia serve little purpose to the employee making the plans or those who execute them. A dissemination and free flow of ideas in all directions is necessary in any scientific and creative organization. </p><p>The primary functions of the Hydrological Branch of the Water Affairs Department of Zambia are twofold: </p><ol><li>Water resource appraisal which includes the inventory of all surface and ground waters;<br></li><li>Research, both basic and applied, in the science of water.<br></li></ol><p>Possibly some function regarding water law is also conceivable, although attachment of a law enforcement function to water-resource investigations might weaken the position of the Branch as an unbiased scientific organization.</p><p>As the collection of basic streamflow data is a primary function of the Branch the following instructions for the collection, analysis and computation of streamflow records have been written. </p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/ofr7324","usgsCitation":"Bidwell, L.E., 1971, Field and office instructions in stream gauging for the Hydrological Survey of Zambia: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 73-24, x, 189 p., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr7324.","productDescription":"x, 189 p.","numberOfPages":"277","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":162199,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1973/0024/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":340684,"rank":2,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1973/0024/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"country":"Zambia","geographicExtents":"{\"type\":\"FeatureCollection\",\"features\":[{\"type\":\"Feature\",\"geometry\":{\"type\":\"Polygon\",\"coordinates\":[[[32.75938,-9.2306],[33.23139,-9.67672],[33.48569,-10.52556],[33.31531,-10.79655],[33.11429,-11.6072],[33.30642,-12.43578],[32.99176,-12.78387],[32.68817,-13.71286],[33.21402,-13.97186],[30.17948,-14.7961],[30.27426,-15.50779],[29.51683,-15.64468],[28.94746,-16.04305],[28.82587,-16.38975],[28.46791,-16.4684],[27.59824,-17.29083],[27.04443,-17.93803],[26.70677,-17.96123],[26.38194,-17.84604],[25.26423,-17.73654],[25.08444,-17.66182],[25.07695,-17.57882],[24.68235,-17.35341],[24.03386,-17.29584],[23.21505,-17.52312],[22.56248,-16.89845],[21.88784,-16.08031],[21.93389,-12.89844],[24.01614,-12.91105],[23.93092,-12.56585],[24.07991,-12.1913],[23.90415,-11.72228],[24.01789,-11.2373],[23.91222,-10.92683],[24.25716,-10.95199],[24.31452,-11.26283],[24.78317,-11.23869],[25.41812,-11.33094],[25.75231,-11.78497],[26.55309,-11.92444],[27.16442,-11.60875],[27.3888,-12.13275],[28.15511,-12.27248],[28.52356,-12.6986],[28.93429,-13.24896],[29.69961,-13.25723],[29.616,-12.17889],[29.34155,-12.36074],[28.64242,-11.97157],[28.37225,-11.79365],[28.49607,-10.78988],[28.67368,-9.60592],[28.44987,-9.16492],[28.73487,-8.52656],[29.00291,-8.40703],[30.34609,-8.23826],[30.74002,-8.34001],[31.15775,-8.59458],[31.55635,-8.76205],[32.19186,-8.93036],[32.75938,-9.2306]]]},\"properties\":{\"name\":\"Zambia\"}}]}","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e49fce4b07f02db5f5afd","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Bidwell, L. The number of wells increased from about 500 in 1960 to 2,560 in 1970. In 1968 the U.S. Geological Survey began a study in cooperation with the Colorado Water Conservation Board; the Colorado Division of Water Resources, Office of the State Engineer; and the Management Districts of the northern High Plains to provide information for administration and management of the vital ground-water reserves of the northern High Plains.</p><p>The northern High Plains of Colorado is formed from an erosional remanent of the Ogallala Formation of Pliocene Age that extends from the South Platte River on the north to the Arkansas River on the south, and from Limon, Colo. on the west across the Colorado State line on the east (fig. 1). This area includes all&nbsp;or part of 11 counties and contains about 9,500 square miles. General information describing the ground-water resources of the northern High Plains of Colorado is presented in table 1. Plate 1 shows the net changes in water level between 1964 and 1971. Other published water-level change maps are for the period from 1964-68 and 1964-69 (Boettcher and others, 1969). The map (pl. 1) is based on annual water-level measurements made in 1964 and 1971 in about 300 wells tapping the Ogallala aquifer. Areas with either a net decline or a net rise are shown. Large declines recorded near Yuma and Burlington correspond to relatively high concentrations (2 per sq mi) of high-capacity wells. Also included in this report are 11 hydrographs typical of the water-level changes during this period (figs. 2-4). The hydrographs show water-level changes from 1964, or as early as 1956 to 1971, and illustrate the consistency of water-level change rates. Because proper management of ground-water resources requires systematic and valid basic data, the annual water-level measurements should continue.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/ofr72166","issn":"0094-9140","usgsCitation":"Hofstra, W.E., Klein, J.M., and Major, T.J., 1971, Water-level changes 1964-71, northern High Plains of Colorado: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 72-166, Report: i, 10 p.; Plate: 13.58 x 27.32 inches, https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr72166.","productDescription":"Report: i, 10 p.; Plate: 13.58 x 27.32 inches","numberOfPages":"14","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":156735,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/usgs_thumb.jpg"},{"id":52656,"rank":400,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1972/0166/plate-1.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"country":"United States","state":"Colorado","geographicExtents":"{\n  \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\",\n  \"features\": [\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              -103.85,\n              38\n            ],\n            [\n              -102,\n              38\n            ],\n            [\n              -102,\n              41\n            ],\n            [\n              -103.85,\n              41\n            ],\n            [\n              -103.85,\n              38\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    }\n  ]\n}","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e49e6e4b07f02db5e7835","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Hofstra, Warren E.","contributorId":75618,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Hofstra","given":"Warren","email":"","middleInitial":"E.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":189984,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Klein, John M.","contributorId":27036,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Klein","given":"John","email":"","middleInitial":"M.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":189985,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2},{"text":"Major, Thomas J.","contributorId":32529,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Major","given":"Thomas","email":"","middleInitial":"J.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":189983,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":3}]}}

The sedimentary deposits of gravel, sand, silt, and clay were separated into geologic map units on the basis of their post-depositional soil development, texture, and geomorphology. Some of the geologic units are associated with different landforms having recognizable topographic expression such as alluvial fans, natural stream terraces, levees, and interfluvial basins. The relative ages of these unites were established on the basis of intensity of soil profile development, stratigraphic position, and geomorphic expression. The older deposits exhibit strongly developed soil profiles with strong horizon differentiation whereas younger deposits display minimal soil profile development, consisting primarily of organic matter accumulations near the land surface. Geomorphic expression and degree of erosion and dissection were additional criteria used to aid in the age determinations. For example, younger deposits form well-defined morphologic features such as levees, terraces, and broad, undissected alluvial fans along the margin of the bay basin and are related to present drainage patterns. The oldest deposits shown on this map (QTs) are structurally deformed by folding and faulting and therefore exhibit no original depositional geomorphic features. These deposits are not related to present drainage patterns but suggest earlier patterns much different from those existing today.","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/ofr71150","collaboration":"Prepared in cooperation with the Department of Housing and Urban Development","usgsCitation":"Helley, E.J., and Brabb, E.E., 1971, Geologic map of Late Cenozoic deposits, Santa Clara County, California: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 71-150, 3 Plates: 35.73 x 23.26 inches and smaller, https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr71150.","productDescription":"3 Plates: 35.73 x 23.26 inches and smaller","costCenters":[{"id":312,"text":"Geology, Minerals, Energy, and Geophysics Science Center","active":true,"usgs":true}],"links":[{"id":279453,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1971/0150/plate-2.pdf"},{"id":279454,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1971/0150/plate-3.pdf"},{"id":279452,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1971/0150/plate-1.pdf"},{"id":172109,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1971/0150/report-thumb.jpg"}],"scale":"62500","country":"United States","state":"California","county":"Santa Clara County","geographicExtents":"{ \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\", \"features\": [ { \"type\": \"Feature\", \"properties\": {}, \"geometry\": { \"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [ [ [ -122.202656,36.893113 ], [ -122.202656,37.484634 ], [ -121.208295,37.484634 ], [ -121.208295,36.893113 ], [ -122.202656,36.893113 ] ] ] } } ] }","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4b12e4b07f02db6a2fa7","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Helley, E.
