S. Geological Survey has collected data on Oklahoma's ground-water resources since 1934. Most of these data were collected as part of specific ground-water studies conducted in cooperation with various Federal, State, and local agencies. Data on construction, yield, water levels, and other physical well parameters are given in 'Ground-Water Records for Northeastern Oklahoma, Part 1 - Records of Wells, Test Holes, and Springs' and in 'Ground-Water Records for Southeastern Oklahoma, Part 1 - Records of Wells, Test Holes, and Springs.' These reports are available from the U.S. Department of the Interior, Geological Survey, Rm. 621, 201 N.W. Third, Oklahoma City, OK 73102.\r\nAlthough some water-quality data for wells, test-holes, and springs have been published, they are scattered through a variety of reports and are not readily available on a regional basis. Furthermore, a considerable amount of data have never been published and can be obtained only from the files of the Geological Survey. The purpose of this report is to make available both published and unpublished water-quality records for approximately 1,740 wells, test-holes, and springs in 23 counties in northeastern Oklahoma and 16 counties in southeastern Oklahoma.\r\n\r\nAcknowledgment is extended to the many hundreds of individuals who have provided the data compiled in this report.","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/ofr78357","usgsCitation":"1978, Ground-water records for eastern Oklahoma, Part 2; water-quality records for wells, test-holes, and springs: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 78-357, iv, 139 p., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr78357.","productDescription":"iv, 139 p.","numberOfPages":"147","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":346197,"rank":2,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1978/0357/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":147233,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1978/0357/report-thumb.jpg"}],"country":"United States","state":"Oklahoma","geographicExtents":"{\n  \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\",\n  \"features\": [\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              -97.4981689453125,\n              33.63291573870479\n            ],\n            [\n              -94.47143554687499,\n              33.63291573870479\n            ],\n            [\n              -94.47143554687499,\n              36.99816565700228\n            ],\n            [\n              -97.4981689453125,\n              36.99816565700228\n            ],\n            [\n              -97.4981689453125,\n              33.63291573870479\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    }\n  ]\n}","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4b26e4b07f02db6afc44","contributors":{"compilers":[{"text":"Havens, John S.","contributorId":13949,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Havens","given":"John S.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":710020,"contributorType":{"id":3,"text":"Compilers"},"rank":1}]}}

The present \"national\" network of strong-motion instrumentation has evolved through the merger of several programs initiated by different agencies and organizations with objectives ranging from research to regulation. It is the result of the coordination of instrument maintenance and record archival currently provided by the Seismic Engineering Branch of the U.S. Geological Survey (formerly the Seismological Field Survey of the U.S. Coast &amp; Geodetic Survey, or the National Ocean Survey, or the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). The USGS operates the program under funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) in cooperation with other federal, state, and local agencies.</p><p>NSF supports a data management function and the operation of a network of about 200 accelerographs and 300 seismoscopes utilized for studies of ground motion and building response. The State of California is developing its own strong-motion instrumentation program (CSMIP), which includes measurements of ground motion as well as the response of representative types of structures. The CSMIP network is the largest network operated by a single agency anywhere in the world. Eventually it will contain a total of about 1000 accelerographs. The Army Corps of Engineers (COE) is developing a program for monitoring the response of earth dams, which eventually will include as many as 400 instruments on over 100 dams. Other agencies and organizations are developing networks appropriate to their missions or objectives. At present the number of instruments owned by these other agencies is less than 100 in each case, although several agencies are still expanding their networks. The present distribution of accelerographs in the United States is indicated in Figure 1 (see: USGS, 1977, also).</p><p>In 1964 the cities of Los Angeles and Beverly Hills, California passed ordinances which required 3 accelerographs to be installed in all high-rise buildings. Initially, these instruments were installed and maintained as a part of the strong-motion program of the Seismological Field Survey (SFS). As the number of installations required by such codes increased, it became apparent that the maintenance of these instruments placed an inordinate burden on and created an imbalance in the SFS operated program (in 1972, 50 percent of the \"national\" program was concentrated in Los Angeles). With the transfer of the SFS program responsibility to the NSF and with the development of the CSMIP, the responsibility for maintenance of code required instruments has reverted to the city building officials and the building owners.</p><p>As the coordinated network of strong-motion instruments has grown, the maintenance of the instruments has required a larger staff than the USGS could provide under existing personnel ceilings. This situation has been resolved by the agencies with the larger networks performing their own installation and maintenance. The USGS maintains an archive of first class copies of all records, whereas other agencies maintain archives of their own records, only. In addition, the USGS coordinates the routine processing of all of the significant records, although other agencies will process their own data if they consider it to have a higher priority than does the USGS. In response to a recent change in their legislated charter, the CSMIP is beginning to develop a capability to process the data collected under that program.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Such relations often follow power laws, the exponents in which are called hydraulic exponents. The Langbein (1964) minimum-variance theory is examined in regard to its validity and its ability to predict observed hydraulic exponents. The variables used with the theory were velocity, depth, width, bed shear stress, friction factor, slope (energy gradient), and stream power. Slope is often constant, in which case only velocity, depth, width, shear and friction factor need be considered. The theory was tested against a wide range of field data from various geographic areas of the United States. The original theory was intended to produce only the average hydraulic exponents for a group of cross sections in a similar type of geologic or hydraulic environment. The theory does predict these average exponents with a reasonable degree of accuracy. An attempt to forecast the exponents at any selected cross section was moderately successful. Empirical equations are more accurate than the minimum variance, Gauckler-Manning, or Chezy methods. Predictions of the exponent of width are most reliable, the exponent of depth fair, and the exponent of mean velocity poor. (Woodard-USGS)","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"U.S. Govt. Print. A major reason for this extreme variability is the high degree of tectonic activity in the area--watersheds are locally being uplifted by at least as much as 25 feet per 1,000 years, yet the maximum extrapolated rate of denudation measured over the longest available period of record is 7.5 feet per 1,000 years adjusted to a drainage area of 0.5 square mile. Evidence of large amounts of uplift continuing into historic time includes structurally overturned strata of Pleistocene age, active thrust faulting, demonstrable stream antecedence, uplifted and deformed terraces, and other results of base-level change seen in stream channels. Such evidence is widespread in the Transverse Ranges, and aspects of the landscape are locally more a function of tectonic activity than of the denudational process. The Precambrian intrusives were emplaced in a sequence of high-grade interlayered felsic gneisses, amphibolites, and pelitic schists of sedimentary and volcanic origin. These rocks are cut by a major northeast-trending Precambrian shear zone where mainly left lateral movement of 1/ 2 to 1 mile is certain. Cumulative movement of many miles is possible. The Precambrian intrusives consist of a batholith, the Mount Ethel pluton, a smaller Buffalo Pass pluton, and small dikes or lenses of fine-grained porphyry, pegmatites, and ultramafics. </p><p>The Mount Ethel pluton is an oval shaped body 7 miles wide by about 40 miles long (shown by geophysical data to extend beneath younger sediments in North Park). Outer batholithic contacts are sharp and dip steeply outward at about 85°. Five mappable internal variants consist, in order of decreasing age, of granodiorite, quartz monzonite porphyry of Rocky Peak, quartz monzonite of Roxy Ann Lake, granite and quartz monzonite, and. leucogranite. Internal contacts between these plutonic variants are sharp, and evidence of liquid-solid relationships abounds; despite this, all rocks except the granodiorite contribute to an Rb-Sr whole-rock isochron indicating emplacement about 1.4 b.y. (billion years) ago. The most important variants volumetrically are: the quartz monzonite porphyry of Rocky Peak, which forms an irregular 2-mile-thick carapace or mapped band around the west edge of the pluton and is lithologically similar to nearby Sherman Granite, and the quartz monzonite of Roxy Ann Lake, which forms most of the rest of the pluton and is lithologically similar to Silver Plume Granite. An apparent Sherman -Silver Plume dichotomy with similar rock types and similar relative ages is noted throughout Colorado plutons of that age. </p><p>The Buffalo Pass pluton consists of the quartz monzonite and gra- nodiorite augen gneiss of Buffalo Mountain and equigranular quartz monzonite gneiss. Internal contacts are not exposed. These rocks contribute to an Rb-Sr whole-rock isochron indicating syntectonic emplacement 1.7-1.8 b.y. ago, essentially the same as the metamorphism of the felsic gneiss wallrocks in the area of this report, and of rocks of Boulder Creek age elsewhere in Colorado. </p><p>The fine-grained porphyry dikes cut the Buffalo Pass pluton, the ultramafics, and some pegmatites. The dikes are within the age range of the Mount Ethel pluton and are older than the mylonite and shear zones. They occur in both an older northwest-trending and a somewhat younger northeast-trending set but do not appear to change compositionally from one set to the other. Regional considerations indicate that they were emplaced between about 1.1 and 1.5 b.y. ago, a time when intermediate to mafic dikes were commonly emplaced throughout Colorado, Wyoming, and southwestern Montana. The pegmatite and ultramafic bodies are not dated directly, but clustering of many pegmatites outside the contacts of the Mount Ethel pluton may indicate a genetic relation of the pegmatites to the Mount Ethel rocks.</p><p> Fluorite is a common accessory mineral in the rocks of the Mount Ethel pluton; it has not been observed in this area in the petrographically similar rocks of the Buffalo Pass pluton. Fluorite was precipitated most abundantly from the Precambrian magma that formed the quartz monzonite of Roxy Ann Lake. In 70 percent of these rocks fluorite is observed in amounts as great as 2 percent and is successively less abundant in both older and younger plutonic phases. Textural evidence indicates that, although most fluorite is intergrown with and contemporaneous with other magmatic minerals, some fluorite is associated with alteration minerals in a manner demonstrating its mobility since its initial deposition.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/pp1041","usgsCitation":"Snyder, G.L., and Hedge, C.E., 1978, Intrusive rocks northeast of Steamboat Springs, Park Range, Colorado: U.S. Geological Survey Professional Paper 1041, Report: iii, 42 p.; 1 Plate: 37.00 × 34.00 inches, https://doi.org/10.3133/pp1041.","productDescription":"Report: iii, 42 p.; 1 Plate: 37.00 × 34.00 inches","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":395421,"rank":4,"type":{"id":36,"text":"NGMDB Index Page"},"url":"https://ngmdb.usgs.gov/Prodesc/proddesc_4693.htm"},{"id":33837,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/1041/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":33836,"rank":400,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/1041/plate-1.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":122999,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/1041/report-thumb.jpg"}],"country":"United States","state":"Colorado","city":"Steamboat Springs","geographicExtents":"{\n  \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\",\n  \"features\": [\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              -106.9333,\n              40.5\n            ],\n            [\n              -106.575,\n              40.5\n            ],\n            [\n              -106.575,\n              40.75\n            ],\n            [\n              -106.9333,\n              40.75\n            ],\n            [\n              -106.9333,\n              40.5\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    }\n  ]\n}","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e49bee4b07f02db5d1213","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Snyder, George L.","contributorId":6843,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Snyder","given":"George","email":"","middleInitial":"L.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":152704,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Hedge, Carl E.","contributorId":76299,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Hedge","given":"Carl","email":"","middleInitial":"E.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":152705,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2}]}}

The bulk of the coal resources occurs in rocks of the Nanushuk Group of Early and Late Cretaceous age. The Nanushuk Group is a wedge-shaped unit of marginal marine and nonmarine rocks that is as thick as 3300 m (11,000 feet) just west of NPR-A. Within the reserve, coal occurs primarily in the middle and thicker portions of this clastic wedge and occurs stratigraphically in the upper half of the section. Specific data on individual coal beds or zones are scarce, and estimates of identified coal resources of about 49.5 billion tons represent a sampling of coal resources too small to give a realistic indication of the potential resources for an area so large. Estimates of undiscovered resources suggest hypothetical resources of between 330 billion and 3.3 trillion tons. The wide range in the undiscovered resource estimates reflects the scarcity and ambiguity of the available data but also suggests the presence of a potentially large coal resource.","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey,","doi":"10.3133/ofr781033","usgsCitation":"Martin, G.C., and Callahan, J.E., 1978, Preliminary report on the coal resources of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 78-1033, ii, 23 leaves :ill., maps ;28 cm.; (29 p., 2 sheets, scale 1:471,680 - PGS), https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr781033.","productDescription":"ii, 23 leaves :ill., maps ;28 cm.; (29 p., 2 sheets, scale 1:471,680 - PGS)","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":152169,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1978/1033/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":49513,"rank":400,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1978/1033/plate-1.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":49514,"rank":401,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1978/1033/plate-2.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":49515,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1978/1033/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"scale":"47680","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4afde4b07f02db696c3c","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Martin, G.
