The average annual inflow for the period 1931-76 was about 2.9 million acre-feet; 1.9 million acre-feet from surface sources, about 900,000 acre-feet from direct precipitation, and about 75,000 acre-feet from ground water. The average annual outflow for the same period, all be evaportion, also was about 2.9 million acre-feet. Storage changes are computed on the basis of changes in the surface level of the lake. During the period of historic record, 1847-1978, the lake surface has fluctuated within a range of about 20 feet but has shown little overall change. The lake surface would have been about 5 feet higher in 1978 than it was in 1947 had there been no consumptive use of water caused by man 's activities in the lake basin. Since 1959 the lake has been divided into two parts by a railroad causeway, which has restricted the natural circulation. This has resulted in a difference of salinity and of surface level across the causeway. The difference in surface level between the two parts of the lake varies seasonally and annually and has been as much as 2.35 feet. This report summarizes the observed extra-low-frequency (ELF) data and least squares interpretation using a computer program developed by Anderson (1977). The results are given in tabular form along with observed and calculated amplitude and phase plots. The low-flow characteristics presented are the annual minimum 1-day mean flow below which the flow will fall on the average of once in 2 years (Q7,2) and the annual minimum 7-day mean flow below which the flow will fall on the average of once in 10 years (Q7,10).</p>\n<p>The low-flow characteristics are presented for 278 project sites in 32 basins considered for work under Public Law 566. They were determined by correlating base-flow measurements at the project site to the concurrent daily mean flow at continuous-record gaging stations in the area. The Q7,2 and Q7,10 discharges determined by a frequency analysis at the continuous-record gaging stations were used to estimate the Q7,2 an Q7,10 at the project sites.</p>\n<p>The accuracy of the estimated low-flow characteristics is evaluated according to the type and amount of data available used. The statewide average of the accuracy determined by the standard error of estimate for the 10-year low flow (SE7,10)&gt; based on three base-flow measurements, is 45 percent but differs within the Samples of the minerals forming on the surface of the bank, the gases escaping from vents, and the water and sediment from a nearby stream were analyzed to determine the presence of these elements.&nbsp;</p><p>The output of trace elements from the Mather bank, as is evidenced by the minerals forming on the surface, is relatively low compared to the output from actively burning anthracite culm-banks.&nbsp;</p><p>Copper was the only element of potential environmental significance found accumulating on the Mather bank. Faults are identified chiefly by the disruption of mappable layers within sequences of plagioclase and plagioclase-olivine cumulates. Most layers grade from olivine-rich bottoms to plagioclase-rich tops and were probably deposited by density currents. Faults trend principally N35?E, N05?W, and N40?W. The district contains the largest quartz-wolframite-type vein deposits in the United States.
