Free gold and silver, tellurides, pyrite, galena, sphalerite, and chalcopyrite are in and associated with quartz veins and quartz veinlet stockworks. Country rocks consist of a sequence of pyroclastic and transported pyroclastic rocks of the Halaban Group that are locally highly silicified and potassium-feldspathized. \r\n\r\nTwo known ore zones occur in a north-trending zone of quartz veins and breccias, faults, alteration, and metallization approximately 400 m wide and 1,000 m long. The ancient and recent workings are located in the northern part of this zone, and a significant new discovery, the southern mineralized zone, is in the southern part. A potential resource of 1.1 million tons of 27 g/t Au and 73 g/t Ag ore is contained in the southern mineralized zone. \r\n\r\nGeologic setting of ore bodies is similar in both zones. Significant mineralization occurs only within altered and fractured agglomerate directly beneath a cap of fine-grained tuff and sedimentary rock where the layered rocks are cut by metalliferous quartz veins. These percentages may become larger during middle and late summer, when water inflow to the marsh is reduced and the supply of dissolved nitrogen and phosphorus is diminished. Fluctuations in water-surface level alternately saturate and partially dewater sediments between approximately 98.5 feet and 93.5 feet above mean sea level. Repeated water-level declines to below 98.5 feet through lake-level regulation in spring or early summer could transport interstitial nitrogen and phosphorus from the marshes to Lake Champlain. The study analyzed the probability of spill occurrence, likely paths of the spills, and locations in space and time of such objects as recreational and biological resources likely to be vulnerable. These results combined to yield estimates of the overall oilspill risk associated with development of the proposed lease area. This risk is compared to the existing oilspill risk from existing leases in the area. The analysis implicityly includes estimates of weathering rates and slick dispersion and an indication of the possible mitigating effects of cleanups. The program, originally written to be processed in batch mode for an IBM computer, was modified to run in time-sharing mode on the DEC 10 computer.</p><p>This version does not depart philosophically from the original program; however, the input and output formats have been adapted to the time-sharing terminal. These modifications and the actual running of the program are not discussed in detail here, as this report is intended only to make the program itself available. Examples of the input and output formats are shown on pages 3-8.</p><p>Input can be entered through the terminal by two methods. An input file may either be independently created and then entered into the program later, or created directly through the interactive mode of the program. With the latter method a file of the input information may also be saved for later use. Both methods allow for the data to be edited after each refinement run.</p><p>The output format has been changed to an 80-column width, common to many terminals. Only the last refinement cycle is printed and some of the statistical computations have been surpressed.</p><p>Using the \"Unit Cell\" program from the terminal in a \"real time\" situation emphasizes the versatility of the program. The primary objectives of the network are to (1) determine the present quality of the State's ground water, (2) provide continual monitoring of groundwater quality for water-management purposes, and (3) serve as a warning system of undesirable changes in ground-water quality.</p>\n<p>Data are compiled for geohydrologic conditions, groundwater quality, cultural elements, and pollution sources. &nbsp;A \"Hydrologic Unit Priority Index\" is calculated from these data to select priority areas for monitoring purposes.</p>\n<p>New ground-water-quality data were collected where existing data were lacking and at some sites that were previously sampled. Old and new data at common sites correlated well, indicating that the water quality has not changed significantly. Most ground water in Idaho is of good quality for common uses; however, water quality may pose problems in local areas. The problems result from both natural and human causes.</p>\n<p>The potential for pollution of the aquifers is expected to be greatest in areas of greatest development. In Idaho, population centers and industries tend to be in areas of privately owned irrigated and arable &middot; land. Therefore, these areas are of primary concern for monitoring ground-water quality. Other areas requiring monitoring include those with second-home development, mining and its related processes, and radioactive-waste disposal.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological These subbasins vary in drainage size, channel slope, effective impervious area, and land use. Automatic waterquality samplers and precipitation and discharge gages were set up in each of the four subbasins. </p><p>During the period October 1977 through May 1978, 19 sets of samples, including two base-flow samples, were collected. Fecal coliform bacteria colonies per 100-milliliter sample ranged from less than 1,000 to more than 1,000,000. Suspended-sediment concentrations ranged from less than 1 to more than 2,300 milligrams per liter. One subbasin consisting of downtown businesses and streets with heavy vehicular traffic was monitored for lead.
