These data along with similar data from the Sierra Nevada and along the San Andreas fault system permit a reconstruction of basement rocks offset by the Cenozoic lateral faulting along both the San Andreas and Garlock fault systems. \r\n\r\nThe location of the line of initial 87Sr/ 86 Sr = 0.7060 can be related to the edge of the Precambrian continental crust in the western United States. Our model explains the present configuration of the edge of Precambrian continental crust as the result of two stages of rifting that occurred about 1,250 to 800 m.y. ago, during Belt sedimentation, and about 600 to 350 m.y. ago, prior to and during the development of the Cordilleran geosyncline and to left-lateral translation along a locus of disturbance identified in the central Mojave Desert. The variations in Rb, Sr, and initial 87Sr/ 86 Sr of the Mesozoic granitic rocks are interpreted as due to variations in composition and age of the source materials of the granitic rocks. The variations of Rb, Sr, and initial 87Sr/ 86 Sr in Mesozoic granitic rocks, the sedimentation history during the late Precambrian and Paleozoic, and the geographic position of loci of Mesozoic magmatism in the western United States are related to the development of the continental margin and different types of lithosphere during rifting.","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"U.S. Govt. represents a potential source of water supply to help satisfy the increasing demands of development. An estimated 150 billion cubic feet of relatively good quality water is stored in the unconfined aquifer. Transmissivity of this aquifer averages about 500 square feet per day, ranging from 100 to 7000 feet per day. Although recharge is primarily from rainfall, a significant amount occurs by upward movement of water from underlying confined aquifers through abandoned and flowing irrigation wells. A preliminary model for the origin of the veins envisages deposition in near-surface fractures above an unexposed pluton that may host a porphyry-type ore deposit. This model is based on the work in progress by the U.S. Geological Survey, and embodies all presently available data from field mapping, literature study, fluid inclusion studies, and diverse geochemical and isotopic studies. Recent advances in uranium geochemistry have been particularly helpful. The work is not yet complete so this model should be considered as a progress report suggesting possible targets for exploration and testing; such testing would in turn lead to refinements in the model and to a clearer understanding of vein-type uranium deposits in general.

a - b x(CH4)], where P(H2O,t) is the vapor pressure of H2O liquid at the temperature t (?C) and x(CH 4) is the molal concentration of methane in the solution. The terms a and b are functions of temperature only. Where the total pressure and temperature are known, the concentration of methane, x(CH4), is found by iteration. The concentration of methane in a sodium chloride brine, y(CH4), is estimated using the function log y(CH4) = log x(CH4) - A I, where A is the salting out constant and I is the ionic strength. For sodium chloride solutions, the ionic strength is equal to the molality of the salt. The central plains descend northward into the circumpolar lowlands (Arcadia Planitia, Vastitas Borealis) and rise southward where they are bounded by the cratered terrains of the equatorial region of Mars.

In addition, three local surveys were made that helped to fill in gaps in the gravity coverage. The resulting complete Bouguer gravity anomaly map and first- and third-order polynomial maps exhibit anomalies of great lateral extent and amplitudes that exceed 45 mGals. \r\n\r\nFive generalized geologic cross sections were constructed and analyzed by the two-dimensional method to investigate the thickness of the valley fill in Tularosa Valley and Jornada Del Muerto.
