The average annual inflow for the period 1931-76 was about 2.9 million acre-feet; 1.9 million acre-feet from surface sources, about 900,000 acre-feet from direct precipitation, and about 75,000 acre-feet from ground water. The average annual outflow for the same period, all be evaportion, also was about 2.9 million acre-feet. Storage changes are computed on the basis of changes in the surface level of the lake. During the period of historic record, 1847-1978, the lake surface has fluctuated within a range of about 20 feet but has shown little overall change. The lake surface would have been about 5 feet higher in 1978 than it was in 1947 had there been no consumptive use of water caused by man 's activities in the lake basin. Since 1959 the lake has been divided into two parts by a railroad causeway, which has restricted the natural circulation. This has resulted in a difference of salinity and of surface level across the causeway. The difference in surface level between the two parts of the lake varies seasonally and annually and has been as much as 2.35 feet. These deposits were mapped and systematically sampled in 1973 to determine their future potential. The sampling program was facilitated by use of a backhoe which dug 1284 m of trenches and 17 pits. Five hundred and eight samples of surficial material were collected from the trenches and pits, and 78 samples were taken from bedrock exposed in the trenches.</p><p>Panning tests indicate that 710,910 m<sup>3</sup> of gold—bearing material containing an average of 0.102 g/m<sup>3</sup> gold are available; the total gold content is 72,268 g. Of this volume higher grade zones containing 263,455 m<sup>3</sup> of auriferous detritus are available; this material averages 0.262 g/m<sup>3</sup> gold and contains about 69,000 g gold. This gold could be recovered with simple washing and concentrating equipment.</p><p>In addition, a substantial amount of lower grade material which might be workable during times of higher gold prices is available in the district. Variation of the 7-day, 10-year low flow from point to point in selected reaches, and the corresponding times of travel, are shown graphically for Wawayanda Creek, Wallkill River, Woodbury-Moodna Creek, and the Fishkill Creek basins. The 7-day, 10-year low flow for the Saw Kill basin, and estimates of the 7-day, 10-year low flow of the Roeliff Jansen Kill at Ancram and of Birch Creek at Pine Hill, are given. Summaries of discharge from Rondout and Ashokan Reservoirs, in Ulster County, are also included. \r\n\r\nMinimum average 7-day, 10-year flow for gaging stations with 10 years or more of record were determined by log-Pearson Type III computation; those for partial-record stations were developed by correlation of discharge measurements made at the partial-record stations with discharge data from appropriate long-term gaging stations. The variation in low flows from point to point within the selected subbasins were estimated from available data and regional regression formula. These techniques were developed for regional analysis of surface wind directional and energy characteristics in connection with Chapter F \"Dune Forms and Wind Regime\" in U.S.G.S. Professional Paper 1052, \"A study of Global Sand Seas\", (Fryberger, 1978). These techniques essentially aim at quantifying and standardizing methodology used to analyze different types of wind data. All sections either scoured or filled at the flood crests relative to their low-flow condition. The sections which scoured at high flow (called scouring sections) generally tended to fill at low flow. Conversely, the sections which filled at high flow (called filling sections) generally tended to scour at low flow. The critical discharge at which the character of a section changed from scouring to filling or vice versa was approximately the bankfull discharge. Therefore, at any discharge except bankfull, some sections were accumulating bed material (fill), while others were being depleted of bed material (scour). The use of the Floridan aquifer for subsurface storage of freshwater, and as an industrial water supply in Dade and Monroe Counties, is being considered by water management authorities and some industries.</p><p>Information on locations, depths, casings, and year drilled for 67 wells that penetrate the Floridan aquifer in Dade and Monroe Counties is presented to assist in planning future uses of the Floridan.</p><p>Chloride concentrations in water from wells ending in the Floridan aquifer in Dade County ranged from 1,200 to 9,000 milligrams per liter. In Monroe County the chloride concentrations ranged from 1,600 to 20,000 milligrams per liter.</p><p>Water levels were measured in selected wells to determine the altitude of the potentiometric surface. The field is a classic example of a stratigraphic trap, where Upper Cretaceous porous sandstone units pinch out on a structural nose. Two-dimensional seismic modeling was used to construct the seismic waveform expressions of the Patrick Draw field, and to better understand how to explore for other 'Patrick Draw' fields. Interpretation of the model shows that the detection of the reservoir sand is very difficult, owing to a combination of acoustic contrasts and bed thickness.
