The Río Pilcomayo \"Inferior\" (Argentina and Paraguay) seems to carry little sediment. The large loads of the \"Alto\" and \"Superior\" must be considered before dams or irrigation projects are started. The shifting channel and flooding of the Río Pilcomayo \"Superior\" also are problems to be considered before development. The Río Pilcomayo \"Alto\" basin has relatively little deposition whereas the \"Superior\" basin has considerable deposition. A part of the \"Superior\" channel is filled with sediment to the top of its banks. The upstream limit of filling is moving farther upstream each year causing the place of overbank flooding to move upstream also.
More data must be collected and more observations made before a complete analysis of the sediment movement in the basin can be made.

These data, plus additional data and information, will form the basis for a future interpretive report. These data are being released separately from and prior to the interpretive report, to make them available to interested parties at the earliest possible time.
Table 1 contains temperature-profile data for 30 wells; their general locations are shown in figure 1. The well locations were estimated from aerial photographs and topographic maps; no effort was made to survey the sites and as a result some locations may be slightly in error.
Temperatures were measured using thermistor, 4-conductor cable, and a digital multimeter. Meter readings were in ohms, but were converted to temperature by a calibration graph. The electronic thermometer is capable of an accuracy to 0.01°C, and readings were so recorded. Because of variations in field conditions, the temperature data in many wells probably is accurate only to 0.1°C. Depths below land surface were measured using a sheave and attached counter. Depths are generally accurate to the nearest foot.

Water-surface profiles for the flood of May 1974 are given for Big Creek and its major tributaries, East Big, Crabapple, Elbow, and Abbe Creeks. The May 1974 flood was at least a 50-year flood on East Big Creek and along certain reaches of Big and Abbe Creeks. Also included for Big Creek are a profile of the December 1971 medium-stage flow and a partial profile for the minor flood of July 1971. Profiles for the low-water condition of October 26, 1972, are shown for all reaches. Water-surface profiles for the 25- and 50-year floods are estimated in relation to the May 1974 flood.

In the other two landfills, movement of ground water is from the shallow aquifers to the deeper aquifers, so that leachate is transported into the deeper aquifers. In all the landfills, the predominant direction of ground-water movement is lateral. Placing solid waste into the landfills has occasionally altered the local, but not the regional, flow patterns. Ground-water mounding at shallow depths beneath two of the landfills has caused flow toward the edges of the two fills. Leachate at these fills is moving downward and outward and has affected water quality at shallow depths. Pumping near two other landfills has reversed the direction of regional ground-water flow, allowing leachate to move toward the pumping wells. Leachate at the three remaining landfills is moving downgradient and is discharging into single streams adjacent to each landfill. (Woodard-USGS)

Equations relating flood magnitudes of selected frequency to basin characteristics such as drainage area, precipitation, and altitude were developed for six regions in the State. Nomographs are included for solution of the equations. Annual peak discharges for more than 700 streamflow stations, including more than 340 stations on streams with basins smaller than 10 square miles, were included in the analysis. Maximum known peak discharges are shown and their relation to drainage areas defined. Data on basin characteristics used in the regression analyses are tabulated. Some adjustments for urbanization effects based on flood-peak ratios for developed and undeveloped areas are suggested.
