However, the microviscosity of this fish virus at 18 C, the temperature at which it was grown, corresponded to the microviscosity of vesicular stomatitis virus at 37 C. These samples were used to determine baseline data on red cell counts, hematocrit, total protein, glucose, cholesterol, hemaglobin and distribution of plasma proteins. Calculations were also made to determine mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration. The major differences noted were between ducklings and adults. The former having higher total protein and lower hematocrit, glucose and cholesterol values. These hematologic values were collected in order to provide baseline information on apparently healthy canvasbacks, thereby providing disease investigators with a standard of The prism programs also are of more general application than existing computer programs that are based on the exact gravity and magnetic effects of rectangular prisms. There are no restrictions on the use of the exact formula for the gravitational attraction of a polygonal prism, but the formulas for the magnetic effect are restricted in that demagnetization is not considered, and a finite answer is not obtained in the unrealistic circumstance where an observation point coincides with an edge of the prism.Least-squares methods permit calculation of the gravity or magnetic effect of models without knowledge of the density or magnetization contrasts, respectively, by comparison of the observed anomalies with theoretical dimensionless values to determine contrasts as regression coefficients. The coefficient of correlation provides a goodness of fit estimate that helps model evaluation. After calculating a magnetic terrain correction for an outcrop of Quaternary dacite and andestite near Clear Lake, Calif., an improvement of the coefficient of correlation from 88 to the 92 percent level indicates that this volcanic unit probably extends at least 150 m beneath the surface. The average age of glacial abrasion of obsidian in the Pinedale terminal moraines is about 30,000 yr, with most age measurements between 20,000 and 35,000 yr. For the Bull Lake moraines, it is about 140,000 yr, with most measurements between 130,000 and 155,000 yr. This age for the Bull Lake moraines is also supported by geologic relations that show that the moraines are older than a rhyolite flow dated by K-Ar as 114,500 ± 7,300 yr old (lσ).</p><p>These obsidian hydration ages of the Pinedale and Bull Lake Glaciations correlate well with the last two cold intervals of the marine record. The age determined for the Bull Lake Glaciation near West Yellowstone antedates the last interglaciation of the marine record, which is commonly correlated with the Sangamon Interglaciation.</p><p>Our results suggest correlation of the Pinedale Glaciation near West Yellowstone with much or all of the Wisconsin Glaciation and of the Bull Lake with the late Illinoian. Outside the bedrock valley at site B, 3 mi (4. 8 km) from site A, 100 ft (30 m) of drift overlies the bedrock surface. Observation wells were installed at the two sites to determine the vertical ground-water movement between the various aquifer units and the lateral movement between the two sites. An aquifer test of the lowest valley-fill aquifer at site A showed that the observation well completed in the same aquifer as the pumping well responded immediately; whereas a lag of about 100 min occurred between the lower valley fill and uppermost body of sand and gravel. This indicates that the hydraulic connection between these two layers is poor at the immediate site. Test results show that the lower sand-and-gravel aquifer has a transmissivity between 14,000 and 27,000 ft<sup>2</sup>/d (1,300 and 2,500 m<sup>2</sup>/d). Although the hydraulic gradient is vertically downward in the valley, much of the drift fill is poorly permeable. This suggests that the quantity of downward-percolating water reaching the lowest valley-fill aquifer is relatively small at the test site. Because valley cut through a number of bedrock aquifers in the region, they could potentially be an important avenue of contamination from land-surface waste. In addition, the vast network of bedrock valleys in the Twin Cities area might cause contaminants to disseminate rather rapidly throughout a large area.</div>\n</div>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","publisherLocation":"Washington, D.C.","usgsCitation":"Winter, T.C., and Pfannkuch, H., 1976, Hydrogeology of a drift-filled bedrock valley near Lino Lakes, Anoka County, Minnesota: Journal of Research of the U.S. Geological Survey, v. 4, no. 3, p. 267-276.","productDescription":"10 p.","startPage":"267","endPage":"276","onlineOnly":"N","additionalOnlineFiles":"N","costCenters":[{"id":392,"text":"Minnesota Water Science Center","active":true,"usgs":true}],"links":[{"id":326393,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/outside_thumb.jpg"}],"country":"United States","state":"Minnesota","county":"Anoka County","geographicExtents":"{\"type\":\"FeatureCollection\",\"features\":[{\"type\":\"Feature\",\"geometry\":{\"type\":\"Polygon\",\"coordinates\":[[[-93.5093,45.4163],[-93.1289,45.4153],[-93.0186,45.4131],[-93.0188,45.2984],[-93.0207,45.1258],[-93.2262,45.1255],[-93.2272,45.0373],[-93.2814,45.0374],[-93.2807,45.0498],[-93.2814,45.0539],[-93.2826,45.0584],[-93.2826,45.063],[-93.282,45.0666],[-93.282,45.0689],[-93.2813,45.0717],[-93.2794,45.0753],[-93.2781,45.0794],[-93.2787,45.0835],[-93.28,45.0867],[-93.28,45.0913],[-93.2799,45.0959],[-93.2786,45.1],[-93.2786,45.1036],[-93.2793,45.1064],[-93.2812,45.1077],[-93.2863,45.1119],[-93.2915,45.1155],[-93.2934,45.1187],[-93.2947,45.1215],[-93.296,45.1251],[-93.296,45.1274],[-93.296,45.1297],[-93.2985,45.1329],[-93.3011,45.1356],[-93.3024,45.1388],[-93.3056,45.1416],[-93.3076,45.1429],[-93.3127,45.1448],[-93.3179,45.1466],[-93.3211,45.1484],[-93.3257,45.1512],[-93.3302,45.1539],[-93.3328,45.1544],[-93.3347,45.1549],[-93.3373,45.1558],[-93.3399,45.1576],[-93.3431,45.1599],[-93.3463,45.1626],[-93.3495,45.1663],[-93.3528,45.1699],[-93.3553,45.1727],[-93.3579,45.1745],[-93.3618,45.1759],[-93.3663,45.1768],[-93.3709,45.1777],[-93.3767,45.1805],[-93.3812,45.1832],[-93.3838,45.1855],[-93.3864,45.1878],[-93.3889,45.1892],[-93.3928,45.1914],[-93.3967,45.1933],[-93.4025,45.1956],[-93.4084,45.1965],[-93.4116,45.1983],[-93.4142,45.2001],[-93.4161,45.2038],[-93.418,45.2088],[-93.4193,45.2116],[-93.4226,45.2134],[-93.4252,45.2152],[-93.4264,45.2157],[-93.4297,45.2161],[-93.4362,45.217],[-93.4426,45.2166],[-93.4472,45.2161],[-93.4517,45.2157],[-93.4543,45.2175],[-93.4575,45.2203],[-93.4614,45.2234],[-93.4653,45.2257],[-93.4698,45.2257],[-93.4763,45.2253],[-93.4821,45.2248],[-93.4847,45.2257],[-93.4879,45.2271],[-93.4912,45.2289],[-93.4964,45.2344],[-93.5022,45.239],[-93.5035,45.2399],[-93.5073,45.2417],[-93.5113,45.2431],[-93.5138,45.2454],[-93.5093,45.4163]]]},\"properties\":{\"name\":\"Anoka\",\"state\":\"MN\"}}]}","volume":"4","issue":"3","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"57ada1d1e4b0f412a62dfa87","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Winter, T. The probability of observing a point given its right angle distance (y) from the line is generalized to an arbitrary function g(y). Given only that g(O) = 1, it is shown there are nonparametric approaches to density estimation using the observed right angle distances. The model is then generalized to include sighting distances (r). Let f(y/r) be the conditional distribution of right angle distance given sighting distance. It is shown that nonparametric estimation based only on sighting distances requires we know the transformation of r given by f(O/r).","publisher":"International Biometric Society","doi":"10.2307/2529501","usgsCitation":"Burnham, K., and Anderson, D., 1976, Mathematical models for nonparametric inferences from line transect data: Biometrics, v. 32, no. 2, p. 325-336, https://doi.org/10.2307/2529501.","productDescription":"12 p.","startPage":"325","endPage":"336","numberOfPages":"12","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":291838,"rank":1,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/outside_thumb.jpg"}],"volume":"32","issue":"2","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"53e492cde4b0fff40428a5b1","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Burnham, K.P.","contributorId":63760,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Burnham","given":"K.P.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":497711,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Anderson, David R.","contributorId":8413,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Anderson","given":"David R.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":497710,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2}]}}

The discovery of copper mineralization along a lineament mapped in Area 7 (La Paz) has lent credence to the use of LANDSAT 1 data as a basic step in mineral exploration. In Area 9 (Copiapo Region), a number of lineaments were found to be associated with the largest copper deposits of the region. In Area 12 (Magallanes), the identification of what is believed to be a tertiary basin from LANDSAT 1 data has resulted in a new area for petroleum exploration. Band 7 images, as black and white transparencies, were found to be the most useful for geologic interpretation in both tropical vegetated areas and desert regions. Color composites made by the diazochrome process, chromaline process, and from color additive viewers provided additional information. Mosaics of LANDSAT 1 data covering 4 x 6 degrees of latitude and longitude compiled at the 1:1,000,000 scale were found to be an ideal size and format for most Alternating cross-cutting relationships between f (sub l ) and f (sub r ) fold axial planes indicate that these fold groups are conjugate sets, related to the same slump movement. Analysis of slump fold axis orientations by the separation-angle method yields the fold slip plane and fold slip line. A deformation fabric reference diagram, deduced from fold and thrust fault data, shows a vertical deformation plane that is defined by the pole to the f (sub l ) and f (sub r ) fold slip planes, pole to rotated bedding, pole to thrust faults, and the fold slip lines. Central tendency estimators, Theta , Theta , and P&nbsp;</span><sub>50</sub><span>&nbsp;, of distributions of fold azimuths show close agreement, as do dispersion indicators sigma , derived from L values, and (P&nbsp;</span><sub>84</sub><span>&nbsp;-P&nbsp;</span><sub>16</sub><span>&nbsp;)/2. Fold axis orientations in the slumped mass are normally distributed, but the perpendiculars to deduced slip lines have consistently higher azimuth values than other central tendency values. These results may indicate that the sampling plain biased the populations. In this case, the vector mean is not perpendicular to the deduced slip line. Silt intraclast breccias, containing slump overfolds, appear to have been deposited as noncoherent grain flows in the slump depression subsequent to slump deformation. The distribution of overfold axis orientations is not significantly different from random distributions. Separation-angle analysis of the same lower breccia data yields a valid slip line solution.</span></p>","language":"English","publisher":"American Geological Institute","doi":"10.1306/212F6F4B-2B24-11D7-8648000102C1865D","usgsCitation":"Stone, B.D., 1976, Analysis of slump slip lines and deformation fabric in slumped Pleistocene lake beds: Journal of Sedimentary Research, v. 46, no. 2, p. 313-325, https://doi.org/10.1306/212F6F4B-2B24-11D7-8648000102C1865D.","productDescription":"13 p.","startPage":"313","endPage":"325","costCenters":[{"id":40020,"text":"Florence Bascom Geoscience Center","active":true,"usgs":true}],"links":[{"id":373498,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/outside_thumb.jpg"}],"country":"United States","state":"New Hampshire","city":"Manchester","geographicExtents":"{\n  \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\",\n  \"features\": [\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              -71.58554077148438,\n              42.88451779606897\n            ],\n            [\n              -71.290283203125,\n              42.88451779606897\n            ],\n            [\n              -71.290283203125,\n              43.072900581493215\n            ],\n            [\n              -71.58554077148438,\n              43.072900581493215\n            ],\n            [\n              -71.58554077148438,\n              42.88451779606897\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    }\n  ]\n}","volume":"46","issue":"2","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Stone, Byron D. 0000-0001-6092-0798 bdstone@usgs.gov","orcid":"https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6092-0798","contributorId":1702,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Stone","given":"Byron","email":"bdstone@usgs.gov","middleInitial":"D.","affiliations":[{"id":40020,"text":"Florence Bascom Geoscience Center","active":true,"usgs":true},{"id":243,"text":"Eastern Geology and Paleoclimate Science Center","active":true,"usgs":true}],"preferred":true,"id":785493,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

Each depositional cycle is divisible into phases that represent significant changes in depositional patterns. During Cycle I (early Kinderhookian-early Meramecian), predominantly carbonate and evaporite deposition took place on a broad cratonic shelf bordered on the east by land and on the west by a deep trough that received terrigenous sediments from an adjacent western landmass. Kinderhookian transgression was followed by regression during the Osagean and early Meramecian. Regional uplift during latest early Meramecian time (Cycle II) drained the shelf area and caused the sea to be confined to the western trough. During Cycle III (middle Meramecian-Chesterian), the sea again transgressed onto the craton, which was differentiated into the Big Snowy-Williston, Wyoming, and Uinta basins, where terrigenous and carbonate sediments were deposited. The Big Snowy-Williston basin was uplifted during latest Chesterian time and lost its identity, but the Wyoming basin continued to expand into the Pennsylvanian, when it engulfed most of the Cordilleran platform and breached the Transcontinental arch. Application of generalized carbonate, terrigenous, and evaporite depositional models results in specific models that explain the Mississippian depositional patterns. </p>","language":"English","publisher":"U. One appears to lead to the late Pliocene <i>Enhydriodon sivalensis</i> from Villafranchian-equivalent beds in India and can be characterized by the presence of a parastyle on P4 and by the location of the protocone of this tooth, which is located as far lingually as is the hypocone. In the other lineage no parastyle is developed on P4, the anteroposterior length of the carnassial blade is progressively reduced while the transverse width is increased, and the protocone of P4 remains in its primitive position anterolateral to the hypocone. The second lineage, insofar as it is known, seems to lead toward the living sea otter <i>Enhydra</i>, particularly so because of the evolutionary direction shown by two species of <i>Enhydriodon</i> from the late Miocene and late Pliocene of California.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U. Sixteen artificial substrate samplers (8 multiplate and 8 rock-fllled baskets with net liners) were retrieved after 2 to 4 months' exposure. The most common groups in order of their abundance were Copepoda, Foraminifera, Nematoda, and Ostracoda during winter; Copepoda, Nematoda, Cirripedra, and Foraminifera, during spring; Pelecypoda, Amphipoda, Insecta, and Cirripedia during summer; and Pelecypoda, Copepoda, Insecta, and Nematoda during fall. The most abundant species collected during the study were the blue mussels (<i>Mytilus edulis</i>), copepods (<i>Harpacticus</i> sp.), midges (<i>Clunio</i> sp., Ghironomidae), and fairy shrimp (unidentified amphipods). During the summer and fall of 1972 the total number of epifaunal organisms was 22 times greater than during the same period in 1971, with <i>Mytilus edulis</i> comprising 88 percent of the community in 1972 (more than triple the percentage for 1971). The two sampler types collected approximately the same major groups of organisms; however, the multiplate samplers collected an average of 1.6 times more organisms than the basket samplers. The basket sampler, on the other hand, collected three more species per sample than did the multiplate samplers, resulting in species diversities 0.3 to 0.6 greater than those of the multiplate samplers. Diversity values were lower during 1972, except for the spring sample. Seasonal diversity varied from a low of 0.36 in the summer of 1972 to a high of 3.99 in the fall of 1971.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U. S. A standard rating of <i>V</i>=0.961<i>N</i>+0.039 (<i>V</i>=0.293<i>N</i>+0.012), where <i>V</i> is the velocity in feet per second (metres per second) and <i>N</i> is the meter rotation in revolutions per second, was established for the group of new meters. Repeated ratings of two new meters showed that under the best rating conditions, the individual Price pygmy rating is repeatable to within 1 percent.</p><p>The standard errors of velocities predicted using the individual ratings and the standard ratings were compared. The use of the standard rating resulted in statistically higher standard errors than the individual ratings for all groups of meters. However, the differences are a fraction of 1 percent higher and are not of concern for practical purposes. The individual ratings and standard rating for the used meters with new straight contact wires were found to be statistically similar to the ratings for the new meters. This, the slope-area method, is widely used to compute flood peak discharges from high-water marks. Reliability of a computed discharge depends largely on the roughness coefficient, which must be estimated. This paper shows that results of comparable accuracy can be obtained from area and slope alone in natural channels; a roughness coefficient is not needed because roughness and slope are related. These results were then compared with solution of previously developed approximate models of transverse dispersion which were used to analyze experimentally derived concentration distribution.
