Tritium determinations were made on 18 samples, and gross alpha and gross beta/ gamma determinations were made on 12 samples. No appreciable differences were found between the data obtained during August 1974 and the data obtained before the Cannikin event. Chemical analyses were made on 4 samples collected in 1971, on 15 samples in 1972, on 11 samples in 1973, and 7 samples in 1974. Comparison of these analyses to analyses of samples collected before the Cannikin event indicates no changes outside of the seasonal range normally found at the sampling locations.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","publisherLocation":"Reston, VA","doi":"10.3133/70156957","usgsCitation":"Ballance, W.C., and Thordarson, W., 1976, Radiochemical monitoring of water after the Cannikin event, Amchitka Island, Alaska, August 1974 and chemical monitoring from July 1972 to June 1974, i, 19 p., https://doi.org/10.3133/70156957.","productDescription":"i, 19 p.","numberOfPages":"23","onlineOnly":"N","additionalOnlineFiles":"N","temporalStart":"1972-06-01","temporalEnd":"1974-08-01","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":307874,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/OFR474225.JPG"},{"id":308551,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/unnumbered/70156957/report.pdf","text":"Report","size":"2,794 KB","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"country":"United States","state":"Alaska","otherGeospatial":"Amchitka Island, Aleutian Islands","geographicExtents":"{\n  \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\",\n  \"features\": [\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              178.584136963,\n              51.63677159243599\n            ],\n            [\n              178.592376709,\n              51.61290019118336\n            ],\n            [\n              179.21585083,\n              51.3254629443313\n            ],\n            [\n             179.508361816,\n              51.37520943448463\n            ],\n            [\n              179.057922363,\n              51.587309751245456\n            ],\n            [\n              178.628082275,\n              51.67936786087718\n            ],\n            [\n              178.584136963,\n              51.63677159243599\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    }\n  ]\n}","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"55f7efc0e4b05d6c4e4fa98c","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Ballance, Wilbur C.","contributorId":50436,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Ballance","given":"Wilbur","email":"","middleInitial":"C.","affiliations":[{"id":595,"text":"U.S. Geological Survey","active":false,"usgs":true}],"preferred":false,"id":571246,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Thordarson, William","contributorId":23539,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Thordarson","given":"William","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":571247,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2}]}}

The sample is digested with HF—HCl—H</span><sub>2</sub><span>O</span><sub>2</sub><span>; the final solution for analysis is in 10 % (v/v) HCl. Copper and zinc are determined directly by aspirating the solution into an air—acetylene flame. A separate aliquot of the solution is used for determination of lead; lead is extracted into TOPO-MIBK from the acidic solution in the presence of iodide and ascorbic acid. For a 0.50-g sample, the limits of determination are 10–2000 p.p.m. for Cu and Zn, and 5–5000 p.p.m. for Pb. As much as 40 % Fe or Ca. and 10 % Al, Mg, or Mn in the sample do not interfere. An interactive conversational query system devised by the USGS retrieves information from the data bank through a standard computer terminal. The system is being developed in two phases. Phase I, which currently is available on a limited basis, contains published areal resource and chemical data. The primary objective of this phase is to retrieve, calculate, and tabulate coal-resource data by area on a local, regional, or national scale. Factors available for retrieval include: state, county, quadrangle, township, coal field, coal bed, formation, geologic age, source and reliability of data, and coal-bed rank, thickness, overburden, and tonnage, or any combinations of variables. In addition, the chemical data items include individual values for proximate and ultimate analyses, BTU value, and several other physical and chemical tests. Information will be validated and deleted or updated as needed. Phase II is being developed to store, retrieve, and manipulate basic point source coal data (e.g., field observations, drill-hole logs), including geodetic location; bed thickness; depth of burial; moisture; ash; sulfur; major-, minor-, and trace-element content; heat value; and characteristics of overburden, roof rocks, and floor rocks. A dart with liquid Sernylan for capture and Sernylan or Ketamine as a holding drug was preferred to darts using powdered succinylcholine chloride (SCC) and ether. The effectiveness of both Sernylan and SCC is compared and dosages are given for Sernylan in howler monkeys and SCC for howlers and capuchins. The small channels referred to here are small valleys ranging in width from the resolution limit of the Mariner 9 wide-angle images (???1 km) to about 10 km. The greatest density of small band occurs in dark cratered terrain. This dark zone forms a broad subequatorial band around the planet. The observed distribution may be the result of decreased small-channel visibility in bright areas due to obscuration by a high albedo dust or sediment mantle. Crater densities within two small-channel segments show crater size-frequency distributions consistent with those of the oldest of the heavily cratered plains units. Such crater densities coupled with the almost exclusive occurrence of small channels in old cratered terrain and the generally degraded appearance of small channels in the high-resolution images (???100 m) imply a major episode of small-channel formation early in Martian geologic history. ?? 1976.","language":"English","publisher":"Elsevier","doi":"10.1016/0019-1035(76)90182-2","issn":"00191035","usgsCitation":"Pieri, D., 1976, Distribution of small channels on the Martian surface: Icarus, v. 27, no. 1, p. 25-50, https://doi.org/10.1016/0019-1035(76)90182-2.","productDescription":"26 p.","startPage":"25","endPage":"50","numberOfPages":"26","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":218696,"rank":1,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/outside_thumb.jpg"}],"volume":"27","issue":"1","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"505a0301e4b0c8380cd502cb","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Pieri, D.","contributorId":80814,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Pieri","given":"D.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":357766,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}
