This great rupture in the Earth's crust rivals the San Andreas fault in California; it is long (approximately 900 kilometers), complex, and possibly has a lateral displacement of hundreds of kilometers similar to that on the San Andreas fault. The Soviet geologist V. S. Burtman suggested that right-lateral offset of 250 kilometers has occurred, citing a shift of Devonian rocks as evidence (fig. 3). By no means do all Soviet geologists agree. Some hold the view that there is no lateral displacement along the Talas-Fergana fault and that the anomalous distribution of Paleozoic rocks is a result of the original position of deposition.
","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","publisherLocation":"Reston, VA","usgsCitation":"Wallace, R.E., 1976, The Talas-Fergana Fault, Kirghiz and Kazakh, USSR: Earthquake Information Bulletin (USGS), v. 8, no. 4, p. 4-13.","productDescription":"10 p.","startPage":"4","endPage":"13","onlineOnly":"N","additionalOnlineFiles":"N","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":314829,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/outside_thumb.jpg"}],"country":"Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan ","otherGeospatial":"Talas-Fergana Fault","geographicExtents":"{\n  \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\",\n  \"features\": [\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              71.630859375,\n              48.80686346108517\n            ],\n            [\n              86.8798828125,\n              42.61779143282346\n            ],\n            [\n              91.2744140625,\n              41.80407814427234\n            ],\n            [\n              92.2412109375,\n              43.229195113965005\n            ],\n            [\n              83.5400390625,\n              48.80686346108517\n            ],\n            [\n              74.619140625,\n              50.401515322782366\n            ],\n            [\n              71.630859375,\n              48.80686346108517\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    }\n  ]\n}","volume":"8","issue":"4","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"56a7556ee4b0b28f1184d896","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Wallace, R. Difficulties associated with such use of Shannon's Formula and its associated parameters are discussed. Recent research has indicated that diversity indexes can be improved if (a) biological sample collection and analysis are standardized prior to use for among various aquatic systems diversity indexes and their associated parameters, (b) the diversity index is measured in 'sits per individual' rather than the presently used unit of 'bits per individual,' and (c) the equation e=(H - H(min)/(H(max) - H(min)) is used to evaluate the uniformity of distribution of individuals among species in a sample where e equals relative evenness. Relative evenness, a ratio, is an expression in which Brillouin's and Shannon's Equations are not arbitrarily mixed. Values of diversity indexes using Brillouin and Shannon Formulas, both in bits and sits per individual, and relative evenness are given for 16 hypothetical samples.","largerWorkType":{"id":2,"text":"Article"},"largerWorkTitle":"Journal of the Water Pollution Control Federation","largerWorkSubtype":{"id":10,"text":"Journal Article"},"language":"English","publisher":"JSTOR","issn":"00431303","usgsCitation":"Zand, S., 1976, Indexes associated with information theory in water quality: Journal of the Water Pollution Control Federation, v. 48, no. 8, p. 2026-2031.","startPage":"2026","endPage":"2031","numberOfPages":"6","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":221079,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/outside_thumb.jpg"},{"id":269369,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://www.jstor.org/stable/25039974"}],"volume":"48","issue":"8","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"505a3a7fe4b0c8380cd61d12","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Zand, S.M.","contributorId":25699,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Zand","given":"S.M.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":359978,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

Attention was focused on two levels of inbreeding expressed as inbreeding coefficients: F = 0.25, one generation of brother–sister matings, and F = 0.375, two generations of brother–sister matings. Although inbreeding at the F = 0.25 level in fall-spawning populations had no effect on egg hatchability, it significantly increased the frequency of crippled fry by 37.6% and significantly decreased feed conversion efficiency (5.6%), fry survival to 147 days (14.6%), and growth rate to 147 days (6%) and 364 days (23.2%). Effects of inbreeding at F = 0.375 were more pronounced; significant differences included increased frequency of crippled fry (191.5%) and decreased feed conversion efficiency (14.9%), fry survival to 147 days (29.7%), and growth rate to 147 day s (13.4%) and 364 days (33.5%). Application of the total effects of inbreeding on the number of fish remaining and the weight of fish remaining in a production lot at 1 yr of age indicated losses of 17.4 and 36.6% after one generation (F = 0.25) and 47.9 and 65.4% after two generations (F = 0.375) of brother–sister mating. The metallic particles are less than a few microns across. They occur in various minerals along healed intergranular and locally in intragranular microfractures in quartz diorite, amphibolite and chloritized granite of the basement crystalline rocks.

The particles consist of major Fe, Cr, and Ni with minor Si and Ca. Origin due to contamination is absolutely ruled out. We believe that these Fe-Cr-Ni particles are probably condensed from the vaporized impacting body which produced the Ries crater. These particles were injected with high velocity into microfractures near the top of the compressed zone, implanted in and across various minerals before these microfractures were resealed. The presence of Si and Ca as well as the fact that the Cr content is nearly twice that of Ni, led us to conclude that the Ries impacting body is very likely not an iron meteorite but a stony meteorite.
","language":"English","publisher":"Elsevier","doi":"10.1016/0012-821X(76)90114-X","issn":"0012821X","usgsCitation":"El, G.A., and Chao, E.C., 1976, Evidence of the impacting body of the Ries crater - the discovery of Fe-Cr-Ni veinlets below the crater bottom: Earth and Planetary Science Letters, v. 31, no. 3, p. 330-340, https://doi.org/10.1016/0012-821X(76)90114-X.","productDescription":"11 p.","startPage":"330","endPage":"340","numberOfPages":"11","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":221016,"rank":1,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/outside_thumb.jpg"}],"volume":"31","issue":"3","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"505a0d6ee4b0c8380cd52ff5","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"El, Goresy A.","contributorId":65600,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"El","given":"Goresy","email":"","middleInitial":"A.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":359974,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Chao, E. The first step is to represent the sample compositions as unit vectors in M-dimensional space and then to project them into space of fewer dimensions (m) as determined to be appropriate from a factor-variance diagram. Compositions thought to be those of possible end-members in the petrologic system then are represented as vectors in the M-dimensional space and projected into the same space as the sample vectors. If these vectors remain close to unity in length after projection, the corresponding compositions can serve as end-member compositions for the model. After m suitable end-member compositions have been identified, each sample composition is expressed as a mixture of the end-members by computation of the composition loadings. The interactive computer programs presented are useful in these procedures because of the trial-and-error nature of the modeling procedures. ?? 1976.","largerWorkType":{"id":2,"text":"Article"},"largerWorkTitle":"Computers and Geosciences","largerWorkSubtype":{"id":10,"text":"Journal Article"},"language":"English","publisher":"Elsevier","publisherLocation":"Amsterdam, Netherlands","doi":"10.1016/0098-3004(76)90039-X","issn":"00983004","usgsCitation":"Miesch, A., 1976, Interactive computer programs for petrologic modeling with extended Q-mode factor analysis: Computers & Geosciences, v. 2, no. 4, p. 439-492, https://doi.org/10.1016/0098-3004(76)90039-X.","startPage":"439","endPage":"492","numberOfPages":"54","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":221561,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/outside_thumb.jpg"},{"id":266212,"type":{"id":10,"text":"Digital Object Identifier"},"url":"https://dx.doi.org/10.1016/0098-3004(76)90039-X"}],"volume":"2","issue":"4","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"505a3cd5e4b0c8380cd630a6","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Miesch, A.T.","contributorId":88726,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Miesch","given":"A.T.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":360059,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

Conclusions regarding automated photogrammetry reached at the 1972 Congress in Ottawa are reviewed first as a background for examining the developments of 1972-1976. Applications are described for each country reporting significant developments. Among fifteen conclusions listed are statements concerning: the widespread practice of equipping existing stereoplotters with simple digitizers; the growing tendency to use minicomputers on-line with stereoplotters; the optimization of production of digital terrain models by progressive sampling in stereomodels; the potential of digitization of a photogrammetric model by density correlation on epipolar lines; the capabilities and economic aspects of advanced systems which permit simultaneous production of orthophotos, contours, and digital terrain models; the economy of off-line orthophoto systems; applications of digital image processing; automation by optical techniques; applications of sensors other than photographic imagery, and the role of photogrammetric phases in a completely automated cartographic system. ?? 1976.","largerWorkType":{"id":2,"text":"Article"},"largerWorkTitle":"Photogrammetria","largerWorkSubtype":{"id":10,"text":"Journal Article"},"language":"English","doi":"10.1016/0031-8663(76)90008-9","issn":"00318663","usgsCitation":"Thompson, M., and Mikhail, E., 1976, Automation in photogrammetry: Recent developments and applications (1972-1976): Photogrammetria, v. 32, no. 4, p. 111-145, https://doi.org/10.1016/0031-8663(76)90008-9.","startPage":"111","endPage":"145","numberOfPages":"35","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":221091,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/outside_thumb.jpg"},{"id":269815,"type":{"id":10,"text":"Digital Object Identifier"},"url":"https://dx.doi.org/10.1016/0031-8663(76)90008-9"}],"volume":"32","issue":"4","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"5059eefbe4b0c8380cd4a0a6","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Thompson, M.M.","contributorId":78876,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Thompson","given":"M.M.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":360434,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Mikhail, E.M.","contributorId":74515,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Mikhail","given":"E.M.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":360433,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2}]}}
