The filters have been designed with extended lengths so  that a variable convolution operation can be applied to a large class of integral  transforms  having the same  system transfer function.  A f' lagged-convolution method is also presented to significantly decrease the computation time when computing a series of like-transforms over a parameter set spaced the  same as  the filters.  Accuracy of the new filters is comparable to Gaussian integration, provided moderate parameter ranges  and well-behaved kernel functions are used.  A collection of Fortran IV  subprograms  is included for both real  and complex functions for each filter type. Leeches infested 88% of 41 American Wigeon (Anas americana) and 31% of 86 Lesser Scaup (Aythya affinis) examined after death. Lesser Scaup captured by drive-trapping contained significantly more leeches than undisturbed ducks. Leeches were attached to the host within the mucosa of the nasal chamber, to the conjunctiva of the eye and on the skin of the body. The method is based on a graphical technique for hypothetical subtraction of distance intervals that theoretically represent regions of simultaneous volcanism along adjacent or nearly en-echelon loci of volcanism. Distances along the chain, measured from Kilauea, when progressively foreshortened by the distances of hypothetical “collapse” and plotted versus existing age data are found to give linear age-distance relationships. A calibration graph is presented that agrees closely with the measured ages in 17 of the 20 existing dated volcanoes. The criterion for simultaneous activity on different loci is based on the concept of equal azimuths of synchronous volcanic propagation within coeval segments of the chain. This is the predicted relationship when magmatic fluids inject the lithosphere along directions normal to a nearly horizontal least principal stress. It appears that the Pacific plate has been subjected to oscillatory, but principally clockwise, rotations of horizontal stress components during the last 40 m.y.</p></div></div></div><ul To obtain spring age-related characters from these fall-collected groupings, we considered parameters of flight feathers retained until after the first breeding season. Parameters measured included: markings on and width of greater secondary coverts, and length, weight, and diameter of primary feathers. The best age categorization was obtained with discriminant analysis based on a combination of the most accurately measured parameters. This analysis, applied to 81 wings with complete measurements, resulted in only 1 being incorrectly aged and 3 placed in a questionable category. Discriminant functions used with covert markings and the three 5th primary parameters were applied to 30 known-age juvenile, hand-reared redhead females, 28 were correctly aged, none was incorrectly aged, and only 2 were placed in the questionable category.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"Wiley","doi":"10.2307/3799901","usgsCitation":"Dane, C., and Johnson, D.H., 1975, Age determination of female redhead ducks: Journal of Wildlife Management, v. 39, no. 2, p. 256-263, https://doi.org/10.2307/3799901.","productDescription":"8 p.","startPage":"256","endPage":"263","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":133654,"rank":1,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/outside_thumb.jpg"}],"volume":"39","issue":"2","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4ae3e4b07f02db6893d0","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Dane, C.W.","contributorId":95003,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Dane","given":"C.W.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":311433,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Johnson, Douglas H. 0000-0002-7778-6641","orcid":"https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7778-6641","contributorId":70327,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Johnson","given":"Douglas","email":"","middleInitial":"H.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":311432,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2}]}}

These basins are bounded on the north by the Weymouth River basins, on the west by the Taunton River basin, and on the south by small basins that drain to Cape Cod Bay. The basins included all, or parts of, the Norwell, Pembroke, Plymouth, Plympton, Rockland, Scituate, Weymouth, and Whitman. With the following exceptions, each town is served by its own municipal water system--Hingham and northwest Cohasset by the Hingham Water Company; Abington and Rockland by the Abington-Rockland Joint Water Works; and Plympton lacks a public water supply. Weymouth and Cohasset are in Norfolk County; the other towns are in Plymouth County.</p>\n<p>This report presents, in tabular form, selected records of wells, test wells, borings, and springs; measurements of stream discharge, specific conductance, and temperature at partial-record stations; chemical analyses of ground water and surface water; and a summary of municipal water sources and additional sources available. Preseismic changes in elevation in the southern Transverse Ranges were almost uniformly positive and generally episodic. Maximum uplift measured between 1960/61 and 1968/69 was 0.205 m (observed) or 0.200 m (adjusted); it occurred about 30 km northeast of the 1971 epicenter. As much as 0.129 m (observed) of preseismic uplift was also measured about 30 km northwest of the epicenter between 1964 and 1968. A comparison between 1968 and 1969 elevation data revealed 0.078 m (observed) of differential uplift centered about 10 km west of the epicenter; earlier leveling indicates that this uplift began between February 1967 and May 1968. Changes in elevation measured during the interval 1968/69-71 (postearthquake) are interpreted as chiefly coseismic and were concentrated along a 15-km ruptured segment of the east-trending, north-dipping San Fernando fault. These changes were characterized by subsidence of as much as 0.111 m (observed) or 0.092 m (adjusted) south of the fault and a ridge of uplift of up to at least 2.195 m (observed) or 2.196 m (adjusted) immediately north of the fault. </p><p>The more episodic preseismic movements are interpretable as deep-seated creep events on the San Fernando fault. Alternatively, these episodic movements may be due partly to the operation of dilatancy; the onset of the 196849 epicentral uplift accords closely with the initiation of a <i>V</i><sub>p</sub>/<i>V</i><sub>s</sub> anomaly recognized in this same area. The 1968/69-71 elevation changes can be attributed almost entirely to slip on the San Fernando fault. The VVND virus was isolated from 0.04% of 9,446 free-flying wild birds, 0.76% of 4,367 semidomestic birds, and 1.01% of 3,780 exotic birds examined. Three house sparrows and 1 crow directly associated with infected poultry flocks were the only free-flying wild birds from which VVND virus was isolated. Among semidomestic species, ducks, quail, chukars, pheasants, peafowl, pigeons, and doves were found to be infected. Psittacines, pittas, and toucans accounted for 92% of the VVND virus isolations from exotic birds. In addition, domestic Newcastle disease virus (NDV) was isolated from 0.29% of the free-flying wild birds, from 1.65% of the semidomestic birds, and from 0.19% of the exotic birds collected. Hemagglutination-inhibition against domestic NDV was demonstrated in 0.24% of 3,796 wild bird serums, 8.28% of 2,004 semidomestic bird serums, and 3.90% of 231 exotic bird serums tested.Although few free-flying wild birds were infected with VVND virus in this epornitic, the isolation of domestic NDV strains from free-flying wild ducks and mourning doves suggests the potential for transportation of NDV over long distances by migratory birds.","language":"English","publisher":"American Veterinary Medical Association","issn":"00031488","usgsCitation":"Pearson, G., and McCann, M., 1975, The role of indigenous wild, semidomestic, and exotic birds in the epizootiology of velogenic viscerotropic Newcastle disease in southern California, 1972-1973: Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, v. 167, no. 7, p. 610-614.","productDescription":"5 p.","startPage":"610","endPage":"614","costCenters":[{"id":480,"text":"Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center","active":true,"usgs":true}],"links":[{"id":133720,"rank":1,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.er.usgs.gov/thumbnails/outside_thumb.jpg"}],"volume":"167","issue":"7","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4a0de4b07f02db5fd01a","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Pearson, G.L.","contributorId":83868,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Pearson","given":"G.L.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":310894,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"McCann, M.K.","contributorId":73556,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"McCann","given":"M.K.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":310893,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2}]}}

The studies have shown that in all but the most slowly deposited sediments pore fluids exhibit changes in composition upon burial. These changes can be grouped into a few consistent patterns that facilitate identification of the diagenetic reactions occurring in the sediments. Pelagic clays and slowly deposited (&lt;1 cm/10</span><sup>3</sup><span>yr) biogenic sediments are the only types that exhibit little evidence of reaction in the pore waters. In most biogenic sediments sea water undergoes considerable alteration. In sediments deposited at rates up to a few cm/10</span><sup>3</sup><span>&nbsp;yr the changes chiefly involve gains of Ca</span><sup>2+</sup><span>&nbsp;and Sr</span><sup>2+</sup><span>&nbsp;and losses of Mg</span><sup>2+</sup><span>&nbsp;which balance the Ca</span><sup>2+</sup><span>&nbsp;enrichment. The Ca-Mg substitution may often reach 30 mM/kg while Sr</span><sup>2+</sup><span>&nbsp;may be enriched 15-fold over sea water. These changes reflect recrystallization of biogenic calcite and the substitution of Mg</span><sup>2+</sup><span>&nbsp;for Ca</span><sup>2+</sup><span>&nbsp;during this reaction. The Ca-Mg-carbonate formed is most likely a dolomitic phase. A related but more complex pattern is found in carbonate sediments deposited at somewhat greater rates. Ca</span><sup>2+</sup><span>&nbsp;and Sr</span><sup>2+</sup><span>&nbsp;enrichment is again characteristic, but Mg</span><sup>2+</sup><span>&nbsp;losses exceed Ca</span><sup>2+</sup><span>&nbsp;gains with the excess being balanced by SO</span><sub>4</sub><sup>post staggered2-</sup><span>&nbsp;losses. The data indicate that the reactions are similar to those noted above, except that the Ca</span><sup>2+</sup><span>&nbsp;released is not kept in solution but is precipitated by the HCO</span><sub>3</sub><sup>post staggered-</sup><span>&nbsp;produced in SO</span><sub>4</sub><sup>post staggered2-</sup><span>&nbsp;reduction. In both these types of pore waters Na</span><sup>+</sup><span>&nbsp;is usually conservative, but K</span><sup>+</sup><span>&nbsp;depletions are frequent. In several partly consolidated sediment sections approaching igneous basement contact, very marked interstitial calcium enrichment has been found (to 5.5 g/kg). These phenomena are marked by pronounced depletion in Na</span><sup>+</sup><span>, Si and CO</span><sub>2</sub><span>, and slight enhancement in Cl</span><sup>-</sup><span>. The changes are attributed to exchange of Na</span><sup>+</sup><span>&nbsp;for Ca</span><sup>2+</sup><span>&nbsp;in silicate minerals forming from submarine weathering of igneous rocks such as basalts. Water is also consumed in these reactions, accounting for minor increases in total interstitial salinity. Terrigenous, organic-rich sediments deposited rapidly along continental margins also exhibit significant evidences of alteration. Microbial reactions involving organic matter lead to complete removal of SO</span><sub>4</sub><sup>post staggered2-</sup><span>, strong HCO</span><sub>3</sub><sup>post staggered-</sup><span>&nbsp;enrichment, formation of NH</span><sub>4</sub><sup>post staggered+</sup><span>, and methane synthesis from H</span><sub>2</sub><span>&nbsp;and CO</span><sub>2</sub><span>&nbsp;once SO</span><sub>4</sub><sup>post staggered2-</sup><span>&nbsp;is eliminated. K</span><sup>+</sup><span>&nbsp;and often Na</span><sup>+</sup><span>&nbsp;(slightly) are depleted in the interstitial waters. Ca</span><sup>2+</sup><span>&nbsp;depletion may occur owing to precipitation of CaCO</span><sub>3</sub><span>. In most cases interstitial Cl</span><sup>-</sup><span>&nbsp;remains relatively constant, but increases are noted over evaporitic strata, and decreases in interstitial Cl</span><sup>-</sup><span>&nbsp;are observed in some sediments adjacent to continents.</span></p>","language":"English","publisher":"Elsevier","doi":"10.1016/0016-7037(75)90165-9","issn":"00167037","usgsCitation":"Sayles, F., and Manheim, F., 1975, Interstitial solutions and diagenesis in deeply buried marine sediments: Results from the Deep Sea Drilling Project: Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, v. 39, no. 2, p. 103-127, https://doi.org/10.1016/0016-7037(75)90165-9.","productDescription":"25 p.","startPage":"103","endPage":"127","numberOfPages":"25","costCenters":[{"id":678,"text":"Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center","active":true,"usgs":true}],"links":[{"id":221419,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/outside_thumb.jpg"}],"volume":"39","issue":"2","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"505a3db1e4b0c8380cd63772","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Sayles, F.L.","contributorId":77657,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Sayles","given":"F.L.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":360035,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Manheim, F.T. 0000-0003-4005-4524","orcid":"https://orcid.org/0000-0003-4005-4524","contributorId":55421,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Manheim","given":"F.T.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":360034,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2}]}}
