A histogram of the lithium concentrations is also given. The geometric mean lithium concentration is 20.4 ppm (parts per million) for all samples, 17.3 ppm for samples from the Eastern United States, and 23.3 ppm for samples from the Western United States. Cadmium concentrations were less than 1 ppm in all but 11 of the 912 samples. Structures and deposits</span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW208813107 BCX8\"> related to the Orientale basin, which is younger than the </span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW208813107 BCX8\">Humorum</span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW208813107 BCX8\"> basin (Hartmann and Kuiper, 1962</span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW208813107 BCX8\">), dominate the southwestern half of the quadrangle</span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW208813107 BCX8\">. The northeastern half is dominated by mantling deposits that are older </span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW208813107 BCX8\">than Orientale (</span><span class=\"SpellingError SCXW208813107 BCX8\">Imbrian</span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW208813107 BCX8\">) and younger than </span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW208813107 BCX8\">Humorum</span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW208813107 BCX8\"> (pre-</span><span class=\"SpellingError SCXW208813107 BCX8\">Imbrian</span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW208813107 BCX8\">), which lies</span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW208813107 BCX8\"> mostly outside the zone of reco</span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW208813107 BCX8\">gnizable Orientale-related deposits or structures.</span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW208813107 BCX8\"> These main </span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW208813107 BCX8\">subdivisions are visible on the albedo map of the Moon (</span><span class=\"SpellingError SCXW208813107 BCX8\">Pohn</span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW208813107 BCX8\"> and </span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW208813107 BCX8\">Wildey</span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW208813107 BCX8\">, </span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW208813107 BCX8\">1970)</span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW208813107 BCX8\">, the northeastern one having generally the lower albedo</span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW208813107 BCX8\">. However, concentrations of these metals in streamflow in the vicinity of the Huntsville municipal water intake during June, August, and September 1971 did not exceed the limits recommended for a public drinking water supply. The occurrence of these metals in general is related to man's activities. \r\n\r\nInformation gained during this study suggests that cadmium and the other metals are associated with and transported with suspended sediment, bed material, and airborne dust particles. Lead and zinc were the most abundant of the selected metals in streamflow, bed material, and rainwater samples. Well production in the high-yield area is mainly from the Newburg zone, a permeable stratum in the lower part of the Bass Island group. A ' structure contour map on the top of the Lockport Dolomite shows that the Newburg zone conforms to the configuration of the Cincinnati arch. The chemical quality of the water in the consolidated-rock aquifers is intimately related to the regional flow system, and undergoes a progressive change from a calcium bicarbonate-type in recharge areas to a calcium sulfate-type in areas of natural discharge.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","publisherLocation":"Columbus, Types of deposits found are natural levee, oberbank deposit, and a probable point bar. Since the 18th century, locally more than 10 feet of sediment has been deposited. These modern sediments are similar to those on other flood plains in the southeastern United States and probably resulted from erosion that began when extensive areas were laid bare for farming. They are red to reddish brown in contrast to underlying sediment, which is various shades of gray, brown, and yellow. Earliest traces of man are \"spinner-type\" projectiles in the lower sand member (Qls). Marrow mountain-type points are found in mottled silty sandy clay (Qmssc). Triangular stemmed Savannah River points were found throughout the intermediate sand (Qis).
