The newly determined value of the lead isotopic composition of Canyon Diablo troilite is as follows:<span>&nbsp;</span><sup>206</sup>Pb/<sup>204</sup>Pb = 9.307,<span>&nbsp;</span><sup>207</sup>Pb/<sup>2O4</sup>Pb = 10.294, and<span>&nbsp;</span><sup>208</sup>Pb/<sup>204</sup>Pb = 29.476. The leads of Angra dos Reis, Sioux County, and Nuevo Laredo achondrites are very radiogenic, the<span>&nbsp;</span><sup>206</sup>Pb/<sup>204</sup>Pb values are about 200, and the uranium-thorium-lead systems are nearly concordant. The ages of the meteorites as calculated from a single-stage<span>&nbsp;</span><sup>207</sup>Pb/<sup>206</sup>Pb isochron based on the newly determined primordial lead value and the newly reported<span>&nbsp;</span><sup>235</sup>U and<span>&nbsp;</span><sup>838</sup>U decay constants, are 4.528 x 10<sup>9</sup><span>&nbsp;</span>years for Sioux County and Nuevo Laredo and 4.555 x 10<sup>9</sup><span>&nbsp;</span>years for Angra dos Reis. When calculated with the uranium decay constants used by Patterson, these ages are 4.593 x 10<sup>9</sup><span>&nbsp;</span>years and 4.620 x 10<sup>9</sup><span>&nbsp;</span>years, respectively, and are therefore 40 to 70 x 10<sup>6</sup><span>&nbsp;</span>years older than the 4.55 x 10<sup>9</sup><span>&nbsp;</span>years age Patterson reported. The age difference of 27 x 10<sup>6</sup><span>&nbsp;</span>years between Angra dos Reis and the other two meteorites is compatible with the difference between the initial<span>&nbsp;</span><sup>87</sup>Sr/<sup>86</sup>Sr ratio of Angra dos Reis and that of seven basaltic achondrites observed by Papanastassiou and Wasserburg. The time difference is also comparable to that determined by<span>&nbsp;</span><sup>129</sup>1-<sup>129</sup>Xe chronology. The ages of ordinary chondrites (H5 and L6) range from 4.52 to 4.57 x 10<sup>9</sup><span>&nbsp;</span>years, and, here too, time differences in the formation of the parent bodies or later metamorphic events are indicated. Plantings of 13 million chinook salmon and landlocked and anadromous forms of Atlantic salmon in Lake Ontario and the other Great Lakes in 1873-1947 failed completely. The first species to develop a self-sustaining population was the pink salmon (O. gorbuscha), which was planted in Lake Superior in 1956; however, it has not become abundant.\r\nA salmon fishery finally was established when 15 million coho salmon and 6 million chinook salmon were planted as smolt in the Great Lakes in 1966-70. In 1970, for example, 576,000 coho salmon (12% of those planted in 1969) were caught by anglers in Lake Michigan. Most weighed 5 to 10 pounds (2.3-4.5 kg). Sport fishing for salmon was fair in Lakes Superior and Huron, and poor in Lakes Erie and Ontario.\r\nBy 1970, natural reproduction of coho, chinook, pink, and kokanee (O. nerka) salmon had occurred in some tributaries of one or more of the upper three Great Lakes. It is expected, however, that the sport fishery will continue to be supported almost entirely by planted fish.","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife","usgsCitation":"Parsons, J.W., 1973, History of salmon in the Great Lakes, 1850-1970: Technical Paper 68, 80 p. illus. 26 cm.","productDescription":"80 p. illus. 26 cm.","startPage":"0","endPage":"80","numberOfPages":"80","costCenters":[{"id":324,"text":"Great Lakes Science Center","active":true,"usgs":true}],"links":[{"id":131720,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/outside_thumb.jpg"}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e491ae4b07f02db5730a8","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Parsons, John W.","contributorId":21899,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Parsons","given":"John","email":"","middleInitial":"W.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":218376,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

As a result of such continued reaction, waters which dissolve additional Ca as they ascend from the aquifer to the surface will yield estimated aquifer temperatures that are too low. On the other hand, waters initially having enough Ca to deposit calcium carbonate during ascent may yield estimated aquifer temperatures that are too high if aqueous Na and K are prevented from further reaction with country rock owing to armoring by calcite or silica minerals.</p><p>The Na-K-Ca geothermometer is of particular interest to those prospecting for geothermal energy. The method also may be of use in interpreting compositions of fluid inclusions.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"Elsevier","doi":"10.1016/0016-7037(73)90060-4","issn":"00167037","usgsCitation":"Fournier, R., and Truesdell, A., 1973, An empirical NaKCa geothermometer for natural waters: Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, v. 37, no. 5, p. 1255-1275, https://doi.org/10.1016/0016-7037(73)90060-4.","productDescription":"21 p.","startPage":"1255","endPage":"1275","numberOfPages":"21","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":219060,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/outside_thumb.jpg"}],"country":"United States","state":"Wyoming","otherGeospatial":"Yellowstone National Park","geographicExtents":"{\n \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\",\n \"features\": [\n {\n \"type\": \"Feature\",\n \"properties\": {},\n \"geometry\": {\n \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n \"coordinates\": [\n [\n [\n -111.15966796875,\n 43.068887774169625\n ],\n [\n -108.56689453125,\n 43.068887774169625\n ],\n [\n -108.56689453125,\n 45.042478050891546\n ],\n [\n -111.15966796875,\n 45.042478050891546\n ],\n [\n -111.15966796875,\n 43.068887774169625\n ]\n ]\n ]\n }\n }\n ]\n}","volume":"37","issue":"5","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"5059ea33e4b0c8380cd486d4","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Fournier, R.O.","contributorId":73584,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Fournier","given":"R.O.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":358512,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Truesdell, A.H.","contributorId":52566,"corporation":false,"usgs":false,"family":"Truesdell","given":"A.H.","email":"","affiliations":[{"id":6672,"text":"former: USGS Southwest Biological Science Center, Colorado Plateau Research Station, Flagstaff, AZ.
