Poorly developed drainage&nbsp;patterns and gypsum-encrusted surfaces of these desert regions intensified&nbsp;effects of the storm and contributed to the heavy loss of life and&nbsp;property. Destruction of Roman bridges suggests that such storms may&nbsp;have recurrence probabilities of several thousands of years. Both species suffered hyperglycemia, hypocholesterolemia, increased blood hemoglobin, and decreased blood sugar regulatory precision, but the steelhead recovered more quickly. Acid&ndash;base equilibrium was essentially unaffected, and only the coho suffered any significant interrenal vitamin C depletion. Very fine-grained lithic (crystalline) rock fragments, composing about one fifth of the total sample, have mineralogical compositions equivalent to various types of gabbro, anorthositic gabbro, gabbroic anorthosite and troctolite, with minor basalt. The textures now observed in these fragments are in large part metamorphic. Twentyseven electron microprobe analyses of minerals from these fragments are presented, including olivine, plagioclase, pyroxene, spinel, nickel-iron and a Zr-Ti-REE mineral possibly similar to ‘phase B’ of<span>&nbsp;</span><span class=\"small-caps\">Lovering</span><span>&nbsp;</span>and<span>&nbsp;</span><span class=\"small-caps\">Wark</span><span>&nbsp;</span>(1971). Analyses of seven melt inclusions and twenty-eight defocused beam analyses of lithic fragments are also given. Some of the fragments contain ‘gas’ inclusions which, along with the fine grain size, are believed to indicate final crystallization under low pressure near surface conditions. Hatchability of eggs from hens fed a diet containing 37 percent protein was increased significantly (P&lt;0.05) over that of hens fed a diet containing 17 percent protein. Hatchability was also significantly (P&lt;0.005) greater for eggs incubated 10 days under hens before being placed in an incubator than for eggs placed in an incubator for the entire period. Ducklings that hatched from naturally started incubation survived at a much higher rate (P&lt;0.001). Reports in this series are prepared cooperatively by the U.S. Geological Survey and the Utah Division of Water Resources and are designed to provide data to enable interested parties such as legislators, administrators, and planners to keep abreast of changing ground-water conditions.</p><p>This report, like the others (see references, p. 19), contains information on well construction, ground-water withdrawals, water-level changes, and related changes in precipitation and streamflow. Supplementary data such as graphs showing chemical quality of water and maps showing water-table configuration are included in reports of this series only for those years or areas for which applicable data are available and are important to a discussion of changing ground-water conditions.</p><p>The report includes individual discussions of the most important areas of ground-water withdrawal in the State for the calendar year 1971. Water-level fluctuations, however, are described for the period spring 1971 to spring 1972. The purposes of this study were to determine changes in ground-water development in the East Shore area and to determine the effects of those changes on the ground-water system since the area was last studied (Smith and Gates, 1963). The withdrawals projected for the year 2020 are 1,200,000 acre-feet. The maximum annual firm supply that can be derived from the sources now available is about 700,000 acre-feet, of which about 200,000 acre-feet would be derived from subsurface sources. Achievement of this annual yield would require nearly complete regulation of streamflow that now is practically unregulated, larger drawdowns of ground-water levels than have been experienced, and
