The geology of these quadrangles was mapped by the U.S. Geological Survey for the Atomic Energy Commission as part of a comprehensive study of carnotite deposits. The rocks exposed in the eighteen quadrangles consist of crystalline rocks of pre-Cambrian age and sedimentary rocks that range in age from late Paleozoic to Quaternary. Over much of the area the sedimentary rocks are flat lying, but in places the rocks are disrupted by high-angle faults, and northwest-trending folds.  Conspicuous among the folds are large anticlines having cores of intrusive salt and gypsum. Most of the carnotite deposits are confined to the Salt Wash sandstone member of the Jurassic Morrison formation. Within this sandstone, most of the deposits are spottily distributed through an arcuate zone known as the \"Uruvan Mineral Belt\". Individual deposits range in size from irregular masses containing only a few tons of ore to large, tabular masses containing many thousands of tons.  The ore consists largely of sandstone selectively impregnated and in part replaced by uranium and vanadium, minerals. Most of the deposits appear to be related to certain sedimentary structures in sandstones of favorable composition.","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/tem705","collaboration":"This report concerns work done on behalf of the Division of Raw Materials of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission","usgsCitation":"McKay, E.J., and Jobin, D., 1953, Geology of the Red Canyon quadrangle, Montrose county, Colorado: U.S. Geological Survey Trace Elements Memorandum 705, Report: 31 p.; 1 Plate: 33.79 x 27.82 inches, https://doi.org/10.3133/tem705.","productDescription":"Report: 31 p.; 1 Plate: 33.79 x 27.82 inches","numberOfPages":"33","additionalOnlineFiles":"Y","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":278618,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0705/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":283339,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0705/plate-1.pdf"},{"id":283340,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0705/report.pdf"}],"country":"United States","state":"Colorado","county":"Montrose County","otherGeospatial":"Red Canyon Quadrangle","geographicExtents":"{ \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\", \"features\": [ { \"type\": \"Feature\", \"properties\": {}, \"geometry\": { \"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [ [ [ -108.875,38.375 ], [ -108.875,38.5 ], [ -108.75,38.5 ], [ -108.75,38.375 ], [ -108.875,38.375 ] ] ] } } ] }","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"52737beee4b097f32ac3db49","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"McKay, E. This report has been prepared to bring together all of the information on the aluminum phosphate zone in the area where the first plant to treat this material will probably be located. The area may be divided into three physiographic units, (1) the ridge, (2) the flatwoods, and (3) the valley. Maps showing distribution and grade of the aluminum phosphate zone indicate that the zone is thin or absent in the ridge unit, thickest and most persistent, and of the best grade in P<sub>2</sub>O<sub>5</sub> and uranium in the flatwoods unit, and absent or very low in grade in the valley unit. Maps of thickness and of chemical composition show that even in favorable areas there are places where the aluminum phosphate zone is missing or of questionable economic importance.<p>\n<br/>\n<p>The distribution maps also show that areas of high P<sub>2</sub>O<sub>5</sub> and high uranium content coincide closely. Areas containing thick aluminum phosphate material usually have high uranium and P<sub>2</sub>O<sub>5</sub> contents.</p>\n <br/>\n<p>It is estimated that an average of 13,000 tons per day of aluminum phosphate material might be mined from this area. This figure is based on the probable amount of time, per year, that mining would be in favorable ground. When all mines in the area are in favorable ground, the tonnage per day might be about 23,000 tons.</p>\n<br/>\n<p>Tonnages of aluminum phosphate material have been computed for about 36 percent of the area of T. 30 S., R. 25 E., and for 18 percent of the area of T. 31 S., R. 25 E. The survey was made by the U.S. Geological Survey, October 23, 1952, as part of a cooperative program with the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. The survey was made with scintillation-detection equipment mounted in a Douglas DC-3 aircraft. Parallel traverse lines, spaced at quarter-mile intervals, were flown approximately 500 feet above the ground. Aerial photographs were used for pilot guidance, and the flight path of the aircraft was recorded by a gyro-stabilized, continuous-strip-film camera. The distance of the aircraft from the ground was measured with a continuously recording radio altimeter. At 500 feet above the ground, the width of the zone from which anomalous radioactivity is measured varies with the intensity of radiation of the source and, for strong sources, the width would be as much as 1,400 feet. Quarter-mile spacing of the flight paths of the aircraft should be adequate to detect anomalies from strong sources of radioactivity. However, small areas of considerable radioactivity midway between flight paths may not be noted. The approximate location of each radioactivity anomaly is shown on the accompanying map. The plotted position of an anomaly may be in error by as much as a quarter of a mile owing to errors in the available base maps up to several square miles in which it is impossible to find and plot recognizable landmarks. The radioactivity anomaly that is recorded by airborne measurements at 500 feet above the ground can be caused by: 1. A moderately large area in which the rocks and soils are slightly more radioactive than the rocks and soils of the surrounding area. 2. A smaller area in which the rocks and soils are considerably more radioactive than rocks and soils in the surrounding area. 3. A very small area in which to rocks and soils are much more radioactive than the rocks and soils of the surrounding area. Any particular anomaly, therefore, may represent either slightly greater-than-average radioactivity over an area of a few thousand square feet, or high radioactivity over an area of a few hundred square feet. The radioactivity anomalies shown on the accompanying map indicate localities of more-than-average radioactivity, and therefore, suggest areas in which uranium or thorium deposits are more likely to occur.","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/tem611","collaboration":"Prepared in cooperation with the United States Atomic Energy Commission","usgsCitation":"Meuschke, J.L., and Moxham, R., 1953, Airborne radioactivity survey of the West Lonetree area, Uinta county, Wyoming: U.S. Geological Survey Trace Elements Memorandum 611, Report: 3 p.; 1 Plate: 17.32 x 22.22 inches, https://doi.org/10.3133/tem611.","productDescription":"Report: 3 p.; 1 Plate: 17.32 x 22.22 inches","numberOfPages":"3","additionalOnlineFiles":"Y","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":278388,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0611/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":283284,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0611/report.pdf"},{"id":283283,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0611/plate-1.pdf"}],"country":"United States","state":"Wyoming","county":"Uinta County","otherGeospatial":"West Lonetree Area","geographicExtents":"{ \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\", \"features\": [ { \"type\": \"Feature\", \"properties\": {}, \"geometry\": { \"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [ [ [ -110.25,41.033333 ], [ -110.25,41.15 ], [ -110.15,41.15 ], [ -110.15,41.033333 ], [ -110.25,41.033333 ] ] ] } } ] }","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"526a416ee4b0c0d229f9f666","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Meuschke, J. The coal contains gypsum (6 percent), kaolinite (1 percent), quartz (0.3 percent), calcite (trace), and limonite (trace). This suite of minerals and the absence of pyrite show that the coal has been subjected to weathering and oxidation. Over mush of the area the sedimentary rocks are flat lying, but in places the rocks are disrupted by high-angle faults, and northwest-trending folds.  Conspicuous among the folds are large anticlines having cores of intrusive salt and gypsum.  Most of the carnotite deposits are confines to the Salt Wash sandstone member of the Jurassic Morrison formation.  Within this sandstone, most of the deposits are spottily distributed through an arcuate zone known as the \"Uravan Mineral Belt\". Individual deposits range in sizer from irregular masses containing only a few ton of ore to large, tabular masses containing many thousands of tons.  The ore consists largely of sandstone selectively impregnated and in part replaced by uranium and vanadium minerals. Most of the deposits appear to be related to certain sedimentary structures in sandstones of favorable composition.","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/tem704","collaboration":"This report concerns work done on behalf of the Division of Raw Materials of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission","usgsCitation":"Cater, F.W., 1953, Geology of the Pine Mountain quadrangle, Mesa county, Colorado: U.S. Geological Survey Trace Elements Memorandum 704, Report: 30 p.; 1 Plate: 33.18 x 27.87 inches, https://doi.org/10.3133/tem704.","productDescription":"Report: 30 p.; 1 Plate: 33.18 x 27.87 inches","numberOfPages":"33","additionalOnlineFiles":"Y","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":278617,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0704/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":283337,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0704/report.pdf"},{"id":283338,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0704/plate-1.pdf"}],"country":"United States","state":"Colorado","county":"Mesa County","otherGeospatial":"Pine Mountain Quadrangle","geographicExtents":"{ \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\", \"features\": [ { \"type\": \"Feature\", \"properties\": {}, \"geometry\": { \"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [ [ [ -108.875,38.625 ], [ -108.875,38.75 ], [ -108.75,38.75 ], [ -108.75,38.625 ], [ -108.875,38.625 ] ] ] } } ] }","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"52737beee4b097f32ac3db46","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Cater, Fred W. The survey was made by the U.S. Geological Survey, October 20, 1952, as part of a cooperative program with the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. The survey was made with scintillation-detection equipment mounted in a Douglas DC-3 aircraft. Parallel traverse lines, spaced at quarter-mile intervals, were flown approximately 500 feet above the ground. Aerial photographs were used for pilot guidance, and the flight path of the aircraft was recorded by a gyro-stabilized, continuous-strip-film camera. The distance of the aircraft from the ground was measured with a continuously recording radio altimeter. At 500 feet above the ground, the width of the zone from which anomalous radioactivity is measured varies with the intensity of radiation of the source and, for strong sources, the width would be as much as 1,400 feet. Quarter-mile spacing of the flight paths of the aircraft should be adequate to detect anomalies from strong sources of radioactivity. However, small areas of considerable radioactivity midway between flight paths may not be noted. The approximate location of each radioactivity anomaly is shown on the accompanying map. The plotted position of an anomaly may be in error by as much as a quarter of a mile owing to errors in the available base maps up to several square miles in which it is impossible to find and plot recognizable landmarks. The radioactivity anomaly that is recorded by airborne measurements at 500 feet above the ground can be caused by: 1. A moderately large area in which the rocks and soils are slightly more radioactive than the rocks and soils of the surrounding area. 2. A smaller area in which the rocks and soils are considerably more radioactive than rocks and soils in the surrounding area. 3. A very small area in which to rocks and soils are much more radioactive than the rocks and soils of the surrounding area. Any particular anomaly, therefore, may represent either slightly greater-than-average radioactivity over an area of a few thousand square feet, or high radioactivity over an area of a few hundred square feet. The radioactivity anomalies shown on the accompanying map indicate localities of more-than-average radioactivity, and therefore, suggest areas in which uranium or thorium deposits are more likely to occur.","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/tem610","collaboration":"Prepared in cooperation with the United States Atomic Energy Commission","usgsCitation":"U.S. Geological Survey, 1953, Airborne radioactivity survey of the Tabernacle Buttes area, Sublette and Fremont counties, Wyoming: U.S. Geological Survey Trace Elements Memorandum 610, Report: 3 p.; 1 Plate: 21.92 x 17.27 inches, https://doi.org/10.3133/tem610.","productDescription":"Report: 3 p.; 1 Plate: 21.92 x 17.27 inches","numberOfPages":"3","additionalOnlineFiles":"Y","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":278387,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0610/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":283282,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0610/report.pdf"},{"id":283281,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0610/plate-1.pdf"}],"country":"United States","state":"Wyoming","county":"Fremont County;Sublette County","otherGeospatial":"Tabernacle Buttes Area","geographicExtents":"{ \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\", \"features\": [ { \"type\": \"Feature\", \"properties\": {}, \"geometry\": { \"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [ [ [ -109.333333,42.4 ], [ -109.333333,42.5 ], [ -109.0,42.5 ], [ -109.0,42.4 ], [ -109.333333,42.4 ] ] ] } } ] }","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"526a416ee4b0c0d229f9f660"}

The survey was made by the U.S. Geological Survey from September 8 to October 3, 1952, as part of a cooperative program with the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. The survey was made with scintillation-detection equipment mounted in a Douglas DC-3 aircraft. Parallel traverse lines, spaced at quarter-mile intervals, were flown approximately 500 feet above the ground. Aerial photographs were used for pilot guidance, and the flight path of the aircraft was recorded by a gyro-stabilized, continuous-strip-film camera. The distance of the aircraft from the ground was measured with a continuously recording radio altimeter. At 500 feet above the ground, the width of the zone from which anomalous radioactivity is measured varies with the intensity of radiation of the source and, for strong sources, the width would be as much as 1,400 feet. Quarter-mile spacing of the flight paths of the aircraft should be adequate to detect anomalies from strong sources of radioactivity. However, small areas of considerable radioactivity midway between flight paths may not be noted. The approximate location of each radioactivity anomaly is shown on the accompanying map. The plotted position of an anomaly may be in error by as much as a quarter of a mile owing to errors in the available base maps up to several square miles in which it is impossible to find and plot recognizable landmarks. The geology of these quadrangles was mapped by the U.S. Geological Survey for the Atomic Energy Commission as part of a comprehensive study of carnotite deposits. The rocks exposed in the eighteen quadrangles consist of crystalline rocks of pre-Cambrian age and sedimentary rocks that range in age from late Paleozoic to Quaternary. Over much of the area the sedimentary rocks are flat lying, but in places the rocks are disrupted by hih-angle faults, and northwest-trending folds.  Conspicuous among the folds are large anticlines having cores of intrusive salt and gypsum.  Most of the carnotite deposits are confined to Salt Wash sandstone member of the Jurassic Morrison formation.  Within this sandstone, most of the deposits are spottily distributed through an arcuate zone known as the \"Uravan Mineral Belt\".  Individual deposits range in size from irregular masses containing only a few tons of ore to large, tabular masses containing many thousands of tons. The ore consists largely of sandstone selectively impregnated and in part replaced by uranium and vanadium minerals. Most of the deposits appear to be related to certain sedimentary structures in sandstones of favorable composition.","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/tem700","collaboration":"This report concerns work partly done on behalf of the Division of Raw Materials of the U.S Atomic Energy Commission","usgsCitation":"Cater, F.W., and Bell, H., 1953, Geology of the Joe Davis Hill quadrangle, Dolores and San Miguel counties, Colorado: U.S. Geological Survey Trace Elements Memorandum 700, Report: 24 p.; 1 Plate: 33.68 x 27.93 inches, https://doi.org/10.3133/tem700.","productDescription":"Report: 24 p.; 1 Plate: 33.68 x 27.93 inches","numberOfPages":"26","additionalOnlineFiles":"Y","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":278610,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0700/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":283329,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0700/plate-1.pdf"},{"id":283330,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0700/report.pdf"}],"country":"United States","state":"Colorado","county":"Dolores County;San Miguel County","otherGeospatial":"Joe Davis Hill Quadrangle","geographicExtents":"{ \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\", \"features\": [ { \"type\": \"Feature\", \"properties\": {}, \"geometry\": { \"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [ [ [ -108.875,37.875 ], [ -108.875,38.0 ], [ -108.75,38.0 ], [ -108.75,37.875 ], [ -108.875,37.875 ] ] ] } } ] }","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"52737bece4b097f32ac3db38","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Cater, Fred W. H. Mott Drilling Co., Huntington, West Virginia, was resumed June 12, 1952 after a 6-month recess during the winter and was completed July 18, 1952.  The drilling was undertaken to obtain information on the distribution and extent of the uranium-bearing lignite beds along the southeast edge of the Bar H area.  Eight holes totalling 885 feet were drilled and 52 feet of lignite core submitted for study and analysis. The report includes detailed lithographic descriptions of the lignite cores, Bureau of Mines coal analyses, and the results of 100 chemical analyses for uranium. The drilling showed that the thicker, more persistent lignite beds exposed in the northern part of the Bar H area were removed by erosion prior to the deposition of the overlaying White River formation in the south-eastern part of the area.  The beds penetrated by drilling were not of sufficient thickness or uranium content to add to the previously known reserves.","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/tem342","collaboration":"The report concerns work done on behalf of the Division of Raw Materials of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission","usgsCitation":"Zeller, H., 1953, Results of core drilling for uranium-bearing lignites in the Bar H area, Slim Buttes, Harding County, South Dakota: U.S. Geological Survey Trace Elements Memorandum 342, Report: 46 p.; 2 Plates: 19.47 x 21.46 inches and 39.77 x 24.14 inches, https://doi.org/10.3133/tem342.","productDescription":"Report: 46 p.; 2 Plates: 19.47 x 21.46 inches and 39.77 x 24.14 inches","numberOfPages":"50","additionalOnlineFiles":"Y","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":277912,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0342/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":283089,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0342/plate-4.pdf"},{"id":283087,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0342/report.pdf"},{"id":283088,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0342/plate-2.pdf"}],"country":"United States","state":"South Dakota","county":"Harding County","otherGeospatial":"Slim Buttes;Bar H","geographicExtents":"{ \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\", \"features\": [ { \"type\": \"Feature\", \"properties\": {}, \"geometry\": { \"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [ [ [ -104.0454,45.2124 ], [ -104.0454,45.9453 ], [ -102.9425,45.9453 ], [ -102.9425,45.2124 ], [ -104.0454,45.2124 ] ] ] } } ] }","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"523c1cf9e4b024b60d40738f","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Zeller, Howard D.","contributorId":65526,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Zeller","given":"Howard D.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":484250,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

The survey was made by the U.S. Geological Survey as part of a cooperative program with the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. At 500 feet above the ground, the width of the zone from which anomalous radioactivity is measured varies with the intensity of radiation of the source and, for strong sources, the width would be as much as 1,400 feet. Quarter-mile spacing of the flight paths of the aircraft should be adequate to detect anomalies from strong sources of radioactivity. However, small areas of considerable radioactivity midway between flight paths may not be noted. The approximate location of each radioactivity anomaly is shown on the accompanying map. The plotted position of an anomaly may be in error by as much as a quarter of a mile owing to errors in the available base maps up to several square miles in which it is impossible to find and plot recognizable landmarks. The radioactivity anomalies shown on the accompanying map cannot be interpreted in terms of either the radioactive content or the extent of the source materials. The present technique of airborne radioactivity measurement does not permit distinguishing between activity due to thorium and that due to uranium. An anomaly, therefore, may represent radioactivity due entirely to uranium, or to thorium, or to a combination of uranium and thorium. The radioactivity that is recorded by airborne measurements at 500 feet above the ground can be caused by: 1. A moderately large area in which the rocks and soils are slightly more radioactive than the rocks and soils of the surrounding area. 2. A smaller area in which the rocks and soils are considerably more radioactive than rocks and soils in the surrounding area. 3. A very small area in which to rocks and soils are much more radioactive than the rocks and soils of the surrounding area. Any particular anomaly, therefore, may represent either slightly greater-than-average radioactivity over an area of a few thousand square feet, or high radioactivity over an area of a few hundred square feet. The radioactivity anomalies shown on the accompanying map indicate localities of more-than-average radioactivity, and therefore, suggest areas in which uranium or thorium deposits are more likely to occur.","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/tem606","collaboration":"Prepared in cooperation with the United Stated Atomic Energy Commission","usgsCitation":"Meuschke, J.L., and Moxham, R., 1953, Airborne radioactivity survey of the Miller Hill area, Carbon county, Wyoming: U.S. Geological Survey Trace Elements Memorandum 606, Report: 2 p.; 1 Plate: 16.34 x 21.68 inches, https://doi.org/10.3133/tem606.","productDescription":"Report: 2 p.; 1 Plate: 16.34 x 21.68 inches","numberOfPages":"2","additionalOnlineFiles":"Y","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":278384,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0606/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":283276,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0606/plate-1.pdf"},{"id":283275,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0606/report.pdf"}],"country":"United States","state":"Wyoming","city":"Carbon County","otherGeospatial":"Miller Hill Area","geographicExtents":"{ \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\", \"features\": [ { \"type\": \"Feature\", \"properties\": {}, \"geometry\": { \"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [ [ [ -107.35,41.333333 ], [ -107.35,41.5 ], [ -107.25,41.5 ], [ -107.25,41.333333 ], [ -107.35,41.333333 ] ] ] } } ] }","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"526a416ee4b0c0d229f9f65a","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Meuschke, J. The geology of the quadrangles was mapped by the U.S. Geological Survey for the Atomic Energy Commission as part of a comprehensive study of carnotite deposits. The rocks exposed in the eighteen quadrangles consist of crystalline rocks of pre-Cambrian age and sedimentary rocks that range in age from late Paleozoic to Quaternary. Over much of the area the sedimentary rocks are flat lying, but in places the rocks are disrupted by high-angle faults, and northwest-trending folds. Conspicuous among the folds are large anticlines having cores of intrusive salt and gypsum. Most of the carnotite deposits are confined to the Salt Wash sandstone member of the Jurassic Morrison formation. Within this sandstone, most of the deposits are spottily distributed through an arcuate zone known as the \"Uravan Mineral Belt\". Individual deposits range in size from irregular masses containing only a few tons of ore to large, tabular masses containing many thousands of tons. The ore consists largely of sandstone selectively impregnated and in part replaced by uranium and vanadium minerals. Most of the deposits appear to be related to certain sedimentary strictures in sandstones of favorable composition.","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/tem699","collaboration":"This report concerns work done partly on behalf of the Division of Raw Materials of the U.S Atomic Energy Commission","usgsCitation":"Cater, F.W., Bush, A., Bell, H., and Withington, C.F., 1953, Geology of the Horse Range Mesa quadrangle, Colorado: U.S. Geological Survey Trace Elements Memorandum 699, Report: 28 p.; 1 Plate: 33.88 x 27.89 inches, https://doi.org/10.3133/tem699.","productDescription":"Report: 28 p.; 1 Plate: 33.88 x 27.89 inches","numberOfPages":"31","additionalOnlineFiles":"Y","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":278608,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0699/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":283327,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0699/plate-1.pdf"},{"id":283328,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0699/report.pdf"}],"country":"United States","state":"Colorado","otherGeospatial":"Horse Range Mesa Quadrangle","geographicExtents":"{ \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\", \"features\": [ { \"type\": \"Feature\", \"properties\": {}, \"geometry\": { \"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [ [ [ -109.0,38.0 ], [ -109.0,38.125 ], [ -108.875,38.125 ], [ -108.875,38.0 ], [ -109.0,38.0 ] ] ] } } ] }","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"52737bece4b097f32ac3db33","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Cater, Fred W. Individual issues contain information on volcanic activity, volcano research, and volcano monitoring in Hawaii. Information on volcanic activity at other locations is also occasionally included.</p><p>The Volcano Letter was published by HVO through multiple changes in administration, including the Hawaiian Volcano Research Association (1925 to 1932), the U.S. Geological Survey (1932 to 1935), the Department of the Interior (1935 to 1938), and the University of Hawai‘i (1938 to 1955). Issues 1-262 were published weekly from January 1, 1925, to January 2, 1930, and consisted of a single page of text. Issues 263-384, also published weekly, from January 9, 1930, to May 5, 1932, were generally longer—four pages— and provided more detail on volcanic activity, including photographs, maps, and plots. Weekly issues 385-387, published May 12-26, 1932, were a single page of text due to budget reductions brought on by the Great Depression. Budget restrictions reduced the publishing frequency to monthly for issues 388-428, covering the period of June 1932 to October 1935; these issues were generally shorter, 1-2 pages, and sometimes featured figures. From November 1935 to July 1938, issues 429-461 remained monthly but increased in length (generally eight pages) and featured figures frequently. Issues 462-530, published over the period of August 1938 to December 1955, varied in length from 2-15 pages, but were published quarterly, rather than monthly.</p><p>Six of the Volcano Letters are The survey was made by the U.S. Geological Survey on September 4, 1952, as part of a cooperative program with the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. The survey was made with scintillation-detection equipment mounted in a Douglas DC-3 aircraft. Parallel traverse lines, spaced at quarter-mile intervals, were flown approximately 500 feet above the ground. Aerial photographs were used for pilot guidance, and the flight path of the aircraft was recorded by a gyro-stabilized, continuous-strip-film camera. The distance of the aircraft from the ground was measured with a continuously recording radio altimeter. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/tem605","collaboration":"Prepared in cooperation with the United States Atomic Energy Commission","usgsCitation":"Henderson, J.R., and Moxham, R., 1953, Airborne radioactivity survey of the Devils Tower area, Crook county, Wyoming: U.S. Geological Survey Trace Elements Memorandum 605, Report: 2 p.; 1 Plate: 21.89 x 16.65 inches, https://doi.org/10.3133/tem605.","productDescription":"Report: 2 p.; 1 Plate: 21.89 x 16.65 inches","numberOfPages":"2","additionalOnlineFiles":"Y","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":278383,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0605/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":283273,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0605/plate-1.pdf"},{"id":283274,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0605/report.pdf"}],"country":"United States","state":"Wyoming","county":"Crook County","otherGeospatial":"Devils Tower Area","geographicExtents":"{ \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\", \"features\": [ { \"type\": \"Feature\", \"properties\": {}, \"geometry\": { \"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [ [ [ -104.833333,44.65 ], [ -104.833333,44.75 ], [ -104.65,44.75 ], [ -104.65,44.65 ], [ -104.833333,44.65 ] ] ] } } ] }","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"526a416de4b0c0d229f9f654","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Henderson, J. The geology of these quadrangles was mapped by the U.S. Most of the deposits appear to be related to certain sedimentary structures in sandstones of favorable composition.","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/tem698","collaboration":"This report concerns work done partly on behalf of the Division of Raw Materials of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission","usgsCitation":"Cater, F.W., 1953, Geology of the Hamm Canyon quadrangle, Colorado: U.S. Geological Survey Trace Elements Memorandum 698, Report: 27 p.; 1 Plate: 34.00 x 27.96 inches, https://doi.org/10.3133/tem698.","productDescription":"Report: 27 p.; 1 Plate: 34.00 x 27.96 inches","numberOfPages":"30","additionalOnlineFiles":"Y","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":283325,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0698/plate-1.pdf"},{"id":283326,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0698/report.pdf"},{"id":278607,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/tem/0698/report-thumb.jpg"}],"country":"United States","state":"Colorado","otherGeospatial":"Hamm Canyon Quadrangle","geographicExtents":"{ \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\", \"features\": [ { \"type\": \"Feature\", \"properties\": {}, \"geometry\": { \"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [ [ [ -108.875,38.0 ], [ -108.875,38.125 ], [ -108.75,38.125 ], [ -108.75,38.0 ], [ -108.875,38.0 ] ] ] } } ] }","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"52737bebe4b097f32ac3db30","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Cater, Fred W.
