These studies are funded through the National Science Foundation. Acoustic-reflection profiles of Leg 1, described in this report concern mainly a 200 X 250 kilometer project area in the Bay of Campeche in the southwestern part of the Gulf of Mexico. The cruise leg began at Corpus Christi, Texas, and ended at Veracruz, Mexico. Other geophysical records collected during the cruise include magnetometry, gravimetry, and bathymetry.</p><p>Visiting scientists from the Institute of Geophysics of the National University of Mexico, the Oceanographic Commission of the Mexican Navy, and the Mexican Institute of Petroleum joined the research vessel UNITEDGEO I throughout the cruise in the Bay of Campeche. Excepting silicon and strontium, only at one site do the concentrations of the major and minor constituents deviate notably from sea water concentrations (see Tables 1 and 2). The trends, or lack of them, seen in these samples have been discussed previously and only references will be given here. The constancy of composition and similarity to sea water is particularly noteworthy, as the sediments at all of the 9 sites are thought to be intruded by the basal basalt. Packer seats were poor in part of the hole because of unstable wall conditions. Thus, some zones had to be tested several times. The static water levels in the intervals tested ranged from about 23 meters (71 feet) below land surface in the upper interval to an estimated 90 meters (295 feet) below land surface in the lower intervals, indicating a decreasing head with depth. The specific capacity of the hole from 85. 0 to 2,133. 6 meters (279 to 7,000 feet) was 1.94 cubic meters per day per meter (0. 11 gallon per minute per foot) of drawdown after the hole had been jetted at an average rate of 327 cubic meters per day (60 gallons per minute) for about 23 hours . Transmissivity computed from the recovery of water level after jetting stopped was 0.60 cubic meter per day per meter (48.3 gallons per day per foot). The relative specific capacities of isolated intervals ranged from 0.004 cubic meter per day per meter (less than 0.001 gallon per minute per foot) of drawdown to 0.430 cubic meter per day per meter (0.024 gallon per minute per foot) of drawdown.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","publisherLocation":"Reston, VA","doi":"10.3133/70156962","usgsCitation":"Ballance, W.C., 1972, Hydraulic tests in hole UAe-6h, Amchitka Island, Alaska, iii, 31 p., https://doi.org/10.3133/70156962.","productDescription":"iii, 31 p.","numberOfPages":"37","onlineOnly":"N","additionalOnlineFiles":"N","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":307877,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/70156962.PNG"},{"id":308554,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/unnumbered/70156962/report.pdf","text":"Report","size":"7,712 KB","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"country":"United States","state":"Alaska","otherGeospatial":"Amchitka Island, Aleutian Islands","geographicExtents":"{\n  \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\",\n  \"features\": [\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              178.584136963,\n              51.63677159243599\n            ],\n            [\n              178.592376709,\n              51.61290019118336\n            ],\n            [\n              179.21585083,\n              51.3254629443313\n            ],\n            [\n             179.508361816,\n              51.37520943448463\n            ],\n            [\n              179.057922363,\n              51.587309751245456\n            ],\n            [\n              178.628082275,\n              51.67936786087718\n            ],\n            [\n              178.584136963,\n              51.63677159243599\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    }\n  ]\n}","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"55f7efb9e4b05d6c4e4fa977","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Ballance, Wilbur C.","contributorId":50436,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Ballance","given":"Wilbur","email":"","middleInitial":"C.","affiliations":[{"id":595,"text":"U.S. Geological Survey","active":false,"usgs":true}],"preferred":false,"id":571252,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

Filters were shown to significantly reduce the virus concentration. Virus and tissue cultures were not affected by this procedure. In field tests nearly three times more specimens were positive for virus with this method than with the widely used filter technique. Moreover, the cost of materials was less.
