Records for a few pertinent gaging stations in bordering States are also included. The records were collected and computed by the Water Resources Division of the U.S. Geological Survey under the direction of Rex R. Meyer, district chief. These data represent that portion of the National Water Data System collected by the U.S. Geological Survey and cooperating State and federal agencies in Louisiana.</p><p>Through September 30, 1960, the records of discharge and stage of streams and contents and stage of lakes or reservoirs were published in an annual series of U.S. Geological Survey water-supply papers entitled, \"Surface Water Supply of the United States.\"</p><p>Beginning with the 1961 water year, streamflow records and related data have been released by the Geological Survey in annual reports on a State-boundary basis. Distribution of these reports is limited; they are designed primarily for rapid release of data shortly after the end of the water year to meet local needs. Records will be published in Geological Survey water-supply papers at 5-year intervals.</p><p>The Geological Survey has published records of chemical quality, suspended sediment, and water temperatures since 1941 in an annual series of water-supply papers entitled, \"Quality of Surface Waters of the United States.\" Beginning with the 1964 water year, water-quality records also have An inferred age for the sedimentary cover along the axis of the southern part of Gorda Rise suggests that no volcanism has occurred along that part of the rise for more than 100,000 years. Sea-floor spreading at the rise crest has been accommodated by sinking of a keystone block that forms the floor of Escanaba Trough, the median valley of the rise. The following five species of<span>&nbsp;</span><i>Monograptus</i>, in close association with vascular plants and marine shelly faunas, indicate a Praguian, (Siegenian to Early Emsian), late Lower Devonian and possibly early Middle Devonian age:<span>&nbsp;</span><i>M. yukonensis</i><span>&nbsp;</span>Jackson &amp; Lenz,<span>&nbsp;</span><i>M.</i><span>&nbsp;</span>n. sp. aff.<span>&nbsp;</span><i>yukonensis ?</i><span>&nbsp;</span>Jaeger &amp; Stein,<span>&nbsp;</span><i>M. aeqimbilis notoaequakilis</i><span>&nbsp;</span>Jaeger &amp; Stein,<span>&nbsp;</span><i>M. pacificus</i><span>&nbsp;</span>Jaeger n. sp. and<span>&nbsp;</span><i>M. craigensis</i><span>&nbsp;</span>Jaeger n. sp. The<span>&nbsp;</span><i>yukonensis</i><span>&nbsp;</span>zone containing<span>&nbsp;</span><i>M. craigensis</i><span>&nbsp;</span>in its upper part is followed stratigraphically higher by the<span>&nbsp;</span><i>M. pacificus</i><span>&nbsp;</span>zone – the youngest occurrence of<span>&nbsp;</span><i>Monograptus.</i><span>&nbsp;</span>The new species belong to the<span>&nbsp;</span><i>M. uncinatus</i><span>&nbsp;</span>group and, like most Praguian monograptids, have long dorsal tongues on their siculae.<span>&nbsp;</span><i>M. craigensis</i><span>&nbsp;</span>and<span>&nbsp;</span><i>M. pacificus</i><span>&nbsp;</span>increase to seven the number of species of<span>&nbsp;</span><i>Monograptus</i><span>&nbsp;</span>known from the Praguian. On the basis of the Alaskan material, the geographical distribution of<span>&nbsp;</span><i>M. aequabilis notoaequabilis</i><span>&nbsp;</span>now includes North America in addition to previously recorded occurrences in Australia, Southeast Asia, and Europe. It also contains supplementary data that are related to ground-water use in some areas. In reports of this series, the inclusion of such supplementary data as graphs showing chemical quality of water and maps showing water-table configuration is intended only for those years or areas for which applicable data are available and are important to a discussion of changing ground-water conditions.</p><p>The report includes individual discussions of the most important areas of ground-water withdrawal in the State for the calendar year 1969. Only three of the springs have temperatures near the boiling point of water; the maximum recorded temperatures of these springs range from 185° to 189° F. All three springs are in or near areas of late Tertiary or Quaternary volcanism.</p><p>Temperatures of the thermal springs studied ranged from 68° to 189° F. Nearly all thermal springs in Utah are in or near fault zones. Very few of these springs issue from volcanic rocks, but several springs are close to areas of late Tertiary or Quaternary volcanic rocks.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"Utah Geological and S. Geological Survey as part of a cooperative program with the Utah Department of Natural Resources, Division of Water Rights, to investigate the water resources of the State. The purposes of the investigation were to (1) determine the occurrence, recharge, discharge, movement, storage, chemical quality, and availability of ground water; (2) appraise the effects of increased withdrawal of water from wells; and (3) evaluate the effect of the Central Utah Project on the ground-water reservoir and the water supply of Utah Lake.</p><p>This report presents a description of the aquifer system in the two valleys, a detailed description of the ground-water resources, and conclusions about potential development and its effect on the hydrologic conditions in the valleys. Two supplementary reports are products of the investigation. A basic-data release (Cordova, 1969) contains most of the basic data collected for the investigation, including well characteristics, drillers' logs, water levels, pumpage from wells, chemical analyses of ground and surface waters, and discharge of selected springs, drains, and streams.
