The party, consisting of Walter H. Newhouse, Thomas P. Thayer, and Arthur P. Butler, Jr., left Washington, D.C., about December 1, 1943, and arrived in Monrovia, Liberia, December 12, 1943. They left Roberts Field, Liberia, May 5, 1944, and returned to Washington May 16, 1944.</p>\n<br>\n<p>The geologists left Monrovia for field work in the interior on January 9, the delay of several weeks being due to difficulties in obtaining porters. Mr. Arthur Sherman, Mining Engineer for the Liberian Government, who accompanied the party into the interior, capably participated in the examination of the iron deposits and otherwise rendered invaluable assistance sue to his extensive knowledge of the native tribes and trails.</p>\n<br>\n<p>President Tubman requested that the part first examined the iron deposits at Bomi Hills. At the close of the work there he requested that iron deposits in the Kpandemai Mountains be investigated. The party therefore left Bomi Hills on March 25 and arrived at Jordense Camp in the Kpandemai Mountain region on April 6. Four days were spent at this place examining the iron mineralization in the vicinity of Castle Rock, Sugar Loaf, and Mt. Wutivi of Kpandemai Mountains. On April 11 Kpandemai village reached. College, Engineering Experiment Station and Department of Chemistry.\nFrom September to December, 1944, three hundred and fifteen samples were obtained at eighty-four points where gages are maintained for measurement of discharge. Daily samples were collected at six stations, namely:</p>\n<br/>\n<p>Illinois River near Gore, Oklahoma<br/>\nCimarron River near Oilton, Oklahoma<br/>\nCanadian River near Whitefield, Oklahoma<br/>\nWashita River near Durwood, Oklahoma<br/>\nRed River near Gainesville, Texas<br/>\nRed River at Denison Dam, Texas </p>\n<br/>\n<p>Sport samples were collected at the remainder of the stations. The analyses of the spot samples were made largely in a laboratory provided by the Oklahoma A. & M. College, under the supervision of Dr. O.M. Smith, Head, Department of Chemistry; Dr. S.R. Wood, Associate Professor of Chemistry; and W.W. Hastings, U.S. Geological Survey. The daily samples were analyzed in the water resources laboratory of the Geological Survey at Austin, Texas. These data have been summarized in a report to the Oklahoma Planning and Resources Board prepared by the U.S. Geological Survey, March 1, 1945.</p>\n<br/>\n<p>The streams of Oklahoma are classified into two major drainage basins: the Arkansas River and the Red River and their tributaries. The attached analyses are arranged in geographical order for their respective drainage basins, with records listed in downstream order for stations on the main stem first, followed by the analyses for the tributaries. The field was extended later during the period 1918 to 1922. The principal producing horizon is the Bartlesville sand, found at an average depth of 1,150 feet. To January 1, 1944, the Bartlesville sand has produced 7,566,000 barrels of oil from 5,610 productive acres and 871 oil wells. Peak production, averaging 2,025 barrels per day for the year, was attained in the year 1910. The accumulation of oil in the Bartlesville sand is not related to structure.</p>\n<br/>\n<p>The total recovery from the Bartlesville sand in the Hogshooter field to January 1, 1944, is estimated to represent 10.3 per cent of the original oil in place, and the total residual oil is estimated to average 11,776 barrels per acre. Widespread application of vacuum, started in 1915, has had little beneficial effect on production. Some gas-repressuring in recent years has increased recovery to a small extent.</p>\n<br/>\n<p>Conservatively estimated water-flood recovery possibilities are: 3,500 barrels per acre for an area consisting of 1,393 acres (4,875,000 barrels total) with a reasonable profit at the present price of crude oil, and 2,500 barrels per acre for an area of 2,248 acres (5,620,000 barrels total), with no profit indicated under existing conditions.
