The Jabal Radwa quadrangle lies between 24?30? and 25?N. latitude and between 38? and 39? longitude. A photomosaic base at a scale of 1:100,000 was used for map compilation.\r\n\r\nExcept for basalt flows of Tertiary or Quaternary age all the rocks of the area are believed to be of Precambrian age. An older group of slightly metamorphosed mafic and felsic volcanic rocks with interbedded metasedimentary rocks is unconformably overlain by argillite and slightly metamorphosed sandstone and conglomerate. The bedded rocks are cut by many intrusions that range in composition from olivine gabbro to syenite but are predominantly granite, granodiorite, and diorite.\r\n\r\nLittle is known of the structure of the rocks. The layered rocks are strongly folded and commonly dip at high angles. Faults are common and many appear to be large; some contacts have been offset several hundred meters. The origin of the river is in glacial moraine. The river flows through end moraines and rolling till plains, across an extensive outwash plain occupied by large reservoir lakes, and finally across an extensive marshy plain which is the bed of an ancient glacial lake.</p>\n<p>Glacial deposits in the watershed include till, lenses of sand and gravel in till, outwash deposits of sand and gravel, and lake deposits of fine sand, silt, and clay. Beneath the glacial drift is an uneven surface of Precambrian bedrock. Bedrock consists of igneous intrusives and metamorphosed sedimentary formations.</p>\n<p>Water resources in the area are abundant. Lakes and streams occupy about 8 percent of the surface of the area. Twenty-four of these pictures plus one from the Gemini III and four from the Gemini V mission were used to construct a 1:1,000,000-scale, black and white, semi-controlled mosaic. This mosaic covers about 150,000 square miles and extends along the 32d parallel of north latitude from the Pacific Ocean to the 100th meridian in west-central Texas, and averages about 150 miles in width. Many of the individual rectified photographs can be enlarged to a scale of 1:250,000 with little or no loss of resolution; such enlargements will be of great value to earth resources studies. If the angle of tilt is more than 35 degrees, some detail in the background of the photograph is lost. The U. S.
