Since an <span>α</span>-fluorine on a pyridine nucleus is preferentially replaced by hydrazine when it is either adjacent to or opposite a carbomethoxy group, the hydrazides necessary for the synthesis of 3-amino-2- and 6-fluoropyridine could not be prepared. These amines were prepared from the appropriate 2-fluoropyridinecarboxamide by the Hofmann reaction. A detailed investigation of the conditions for high sensitivity and stability at lowest concentration levels of rhenium is presented as well as the behavior of 26 ions. The method is applied to the determination of some tenths of 1 p.p.m. or more of rhenium in a 1-mg. aliquot of mineralized rocks, mixtures of molybdenite and rocks, and molybdenite concentrates. The practical quantity limit of detection is 2x<sup>-10</sup> gram of rhenium. Samples are decomposed with a mixture of CaO, CaCl<sub>2</sub>, and MgO. On leaching, most constituents of the sample are precipitated either as calcium salts or hydroxides, except for rhenium and a small amount of molybdenum which pass into the filtrate. The oldest formation, the Pinal schist, comprises several varieties of schist formed by dynamic and thermal metamorphism of shale and feldspathic sandstone during the early Precambrian Mazatzal revolution. During the later stages of this revolution, the schist was intruded by a complex of dioritic rocks and by plutons of granite and quartz monzonite. There were extensive intrusions of a biotite-quartz diorite, known as the Madera diorite, mainly south of the district. In the northern part of the mapped area, the schist was invaded by an extensive mass, the Ruin granite, which is a coarse-grained rock most commonly of quartz monzonitic composition. There are also smaller sill-like masses of slightly gneissic muscovite granite.","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/pp342","usgsCitation":"Peterson, N.P., 1962, Geology and ore deposits of the Globe-Miami district, Arizona: U.S. Geological Survey Professional Paper 342, Report: vi, 151 p.; 8 Plates: 44.79 x 30.92 inches or smaller, https://doi.org/10.3133/pp342.","productDescription":"Report: vi, 151 p.; 8 Plates: 44.79 x 30.92 inches or smaller","numberOfPages":"157","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":271114,"rank":9,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0342/plate-6.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":271113,"rank":7,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0342/plate-5.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":271111,"rank":6,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0342/plate-3.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":271112,"rank":5,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0342/plate-4.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":275837,"rank":10,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0342/plate-8.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":271109,"rank":4,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0342/plate-1.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":422430,"rank":11,"type":{"id":36,"text":"NGMDB Index Page"},"url":"https://ngmdb.usgs.gov/Prodesc/proddesc_4334.htm","linkFileType":{"id":5,"text":"html"}},{"id":271115,"rank":8,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0342/plate-7.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":271110,"rank":3,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0342/plate-2.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":139786,"rank":1,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0342/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":268960,"rank":2,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0342/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"country":"United States","state":"Arizona","county":"Pinal County","otherGeospatial":"Globe-Miami district","geographicExtents":"{\n  \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\",\n  \"features\": [\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              -111,\n              33.5\n            ],\n            [\n              -111,\n              33.25\n            ],\n            [\n              -110.875,\n              33.25\n            ],\n            [\n              -110.875,\n              33.375\n            ],\n            [\n              -110.75,\n              33.375\n            ],\n            [\n              -110.75,\n              33.5\n            ],\n            [\n              -111,\n              33.5\n            ]\n          ]\n        ],\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\"\n      }\n    }\n  ]\n}","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4ad7e4b07f02db68449a","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Peterson, N. A detailed description of the chromatographic method of analysis is given. Water concentrations of toxaphene were higher in leeshore samples than in windward samples for 2 weeks after the application; toxaphene levels then appeared to reach a constant value of about 0.001 p.p.m. for at least an additional 250 days. Total body concentrations of toxaphene were determined in trout and bullheads present in the lake during the poisoning and in trout placed in the lake in live-cars subsequently. Trout were more susceptible to toxaphene and accumulated lower body levels than bullheads. Bullheads which showed symptoms of toxaphene poisoning when collected had higher levels than did normal-appearing individuals. No difference in levels was observed in live-car trout collected dead as compared to survivors. Aquatic vegetation accumulated high concentrations of toxaphene; low concentrations were found in some sediment samples. The report summarizes in tabular form the Paleozoic formations that are exposed in the mountains adjacent to Cache Valley and describes briefly the Tertiary formations—the Wasatch and Salt Lake formations— which are exposed in the valley. Most of the report deals with the Quaternary deposits.</p><p>Fan gravel and landslides of pre-Lake Bonneville Quaternary age are exposed in a few places at the edges of the basin, and well logs indicate a deep fill of this age in the subsurface of the basin interior. The sediments of Lake Bonneville comprise the Lake Bonneville group. The oldest of the unconsolidated deposits are the Alpine and Bonneville formations, which were mostly mapped together in southern Cache Valley. These formations are composed mostly of silt, but they include some gravel in embankments and small deltas. Their thickness ranges from about 50 to 100 feet.</p><p>Overlying the Alpine and Bonneville formations is the Provo formation 50 to 75 feet thick. In Cache Valley, as elsewhere in the Lake Bonneville basin, the Provo includes extensive gravel deposits in bars, spits, and deltas. It is the surface formation in much of Cache Valley. Deposits younger than the Provo, mostly of Recent age, include alluvial flans, flood-plain alluvium, natural levee deposits along the Bear River, slope wash, eolian sand, and cones of spring tufa. Several faults, active in Tertiary time, are mapped.</p><p>Well logs indicate that the pre-Lake Bonneville deposits of Quaternary age are surprisingly thin in Cache Valley, suggesting that the valley had exterior drainage during most of Pleistocene time. The logs show two main aquifers of gravel and sand— the upper one between the Provo formation and the Alpine and Bonneville formations and the other directly beneath the Alpine and Bonneville deposits. These aquifers probably are alluvium deposited during interlake intervals.</p><p>The shore embankments and deltas of the Lake Bonneville group are abundant sources of gravel and sand for construction. Much of the gravel is suitable for concrete aggregate.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Government Printing Office","doi":"10.3133/pp257C","usgsCitation":"Williams, J.S., 1962, Lake Bonneville: Geology of southern Cache Valley, Utah: U.S. Geological Survey Professional Paper 257, Report: p. 131-152; 2 Plates, https://doi.org/10.3133/pp257C.","productDescription":"Report: p. 131-152; 2 Plates","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":409536,"rank":4,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0257c/plate-7.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":409537,"rank":2,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0257c/plate-6.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":66802,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0257c/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":119656,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0257c/report-thumb.jpg"}],"country":"United States","state":"Utah","otherGeospatial":"Cache Valley, Lake Bonneville","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4b32e4b07f02db6b42dd","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Williams, J. Then you would think of water for bathing, brushing teeth, flushing the toilet. Your list would get longer as you thought of water for cooking, washing the dishes, running the garbage grinder. Water for lawn watering, for play pools, for swimming pools, for washing the car and the dog. Water for washing machines and for air conditioning. You can hardly do without water for fun and pleasure—water for swimming, boating, fishing, water-skiing, and skin diving. In school or the public library, you need water to wash your hands, or to have a drink. If you give the matter a little thought, you will realize that people in many countries, even in our own, may suffer from disease and dirt simply because their homes are not equipped with running water. Imagine your own town if for some reason - an explosion, perhaps - water service were cut off for a week or several weeks. You would have to drive or walk to a neighboring town and bring water back in pails. Certainly if people had to carry water themselves they might not be inclined to bathe very often; washing clothes would be a real chore.</p><p>Nothing can live without water. The earth is covered by water over three-fourths of its surface - water as a liquid in rivers, lakes and oceans, and water as ice and snow on the tops of high mountains and in the polar regions. Only one-quarter of our bodies is bone and muscle; the other three-fourths is made of water. We need water to live,&nbsp;and so do plants and animals. People and animals can live a long time without food, but without water they die in a few days. Without water, everything would die, and the world would turn into a huge desert. </p>","language":"English","publisher":"Saalfield Publishing Company","publisherLocation":"Akron, OH; New York, NY","usgsCitation":"Leopold, L.B., and Baldwin, H., 1962, Water, v. 1, no. 48, 48 p.","productDescription":"48 p.","numberOfPages":"50","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":338328,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/outside_thumb.jpg"}],"volume":"1","issue":"48","publicComments":"Saalfield Science Series no. 5807","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"58d6304ce4b05ec799131145","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Leopold, Luna Bergere","contributorId":93884,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Leopold","given":"Luna","email":"","middleInitial":"Bergere","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":686154,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Baldwin, Helene L.","contributorId":34622,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Baldwin","given":"Helene L.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":686155,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2}]}}
