The Cormeilles-en-Parisis hill shows one of the best geologic sections of the Paris region. The 80 meter high working face of the quarry exposes the complete section of the \"Ludian\" [the youngest beds of the Eocene] with its alternations of the marl and gypsum. Above is the sequence of supra-gypseous marls of the [lower oligocene] Sannosian stage, overlain by a very complex series of alternation brackish water and lacustrine layers, from blue marls to Brie limestone, up through the white Pantin marls, brown marls containing the pelecypod genus Cyrena and green marls. These strata overlain by the [Middle Oligocene] Stampian beds represented by the Fontainebleau sands and Ostrea-bearing marls.

A U.S. Bureau of Mines drill crew, on contract to the Atomic Energy Commission, did 2,450 feet of diamond drilling under the geological supervision of the U.S. Geological Survey. The purpose of the drilling was to delineate broadly the favorable ground for commercial development of the uranium deposits. Ten drill holes were located around Pumpkin Point, which is the northeastern end of Buckeye Reef, to probe for extensions of small ore sheets mined on the Point in fine-grained sandstones of the Chinle formation. Three additional holes were located around Tecumseh Hill to probe for extensions of the small showings of uranium-bearing rocks of Buckeye Reef.\r\n\r\nOnly one trace of uranium mineral was detected in the 13 drill holes by logging of drill cores, gamma-ray logging of the holes, and analysis of many core splits from \u001Cfavorable\u001D lithology. Extensive traversing with Geiger counters throughout the district and detailed geologic mapping of areas on Buckeye Reef and on East Reef indicate that the chances of discovering significant uranium deposits in the Silver Reef district are very poor, because of: highly variable lithology, closely faulted structure, and obliteration of the shallow uranium-bearing lenses by silver mining. Most of the available ore in the district was in the Pumpkin Point area and has been mined during 1950 to 1953. No ore reserves can be computed for the district before further development work. Previously the Hoskinnini had been recognized only in the Monument Valley region of southeastern Utah and northeastern Arizona.\r\n\r\nThe Hoskinnini tongue is pale reddish brown and is composed mainly of silt and very fine-grained sand and minor quantities of fine, medium, and coarse sand grains. The Hoskinnini is indistinctly bedded in horizontal beds generally ranging from 1 to 2 feet thick, and individual beds are composed of indistinct \r\ndiscontinuous wavy laminae bounded by grayish-red clay or silt films.\r\n \r\nThe Hoskinnini is generally 50 to 120 feet thick but ranges up to 126 feet thick' Pinchouts of the Hoskinnini on the west are abrupt, and the Hoskinnini near some of these pinchouts contains unusual features such as intraformational and chert pebble conglomerates, contorted stratification, and petroliferous material.\r\n\r\nThe combination of coarse grains in the finer-grained matrix and discontinuous wavy laminae serve to differentiate the Hoskinnini tongue from the underlying and overlying formations' The distinctive combination of grain size and wavy laminae also assures correlation of the Hoskinnini with rocks not previously \r\ncorrelated with the Hoskinnini in southeastern Utah and adjoining parts of Colorado.\r\n\r\nAlthough the Hoskinnini tongue is cUJITently classified as a part of the Permian Cutler formation, stratigraphic relations show the Hoskinnini to be conttasted with typical Cutler rocks and to be closely related to the Lower and Middle (?) In the period 1907 to 1944 inclusive only about 328 valid permits and licenses to appropriate ground water were issued by the state. thereafter 28 permits became valid in 1945, 83 in 1946, and 121 in 1947. Sine 1947 permits and licenses have been issued at the rate of more than 400 a year.
