In order to supplement this work it has appeared advisable to select the more reliable and complete of the earlier analyses collected by Justus Roth and arrange them also in the same manner for publication. Petrographers would thus have available for use&nbsp;according to the new system almost the entire body of chemical work of real value on igneous rocks, the exceptions being a few analyses published prior to 1900 which may have been overlooked by both Roth and myself. The two collections would form a foundation as broad as possible for future research and discussion.
