The area irrigated was 4 miles southwest of Tallahassee, Florida, on an area covered in part by pine forest and in part by selected grasses and forage crops. Hydrologic and geologic data were collected from 1972 to 1981. Hydrologic data include ground-water levels, water quality, and spray-irrigation rates. Ground-water level measurements were made at 60 wells. Water-quality samples were collected at 1 municipal wastewater effluent site, 3 springs, 17 soil sites, and 64 wells. Total porosity values and both water-accessible and helium-accessible porosities were calculated from the density data. Magnetic susceptibility measurements were made on the solid samples and permeability and streaming potentials were concurrently measured on most samples. Dry bulk densities obtained using two methods of volume determination, namely direct measurement and Archlmedes principle, were nearly equivalent for most samples. Grain densities obtained on powdered samples were typically greater than grain densities obtained on solid samples, but differences were usually small. Sedimentary rocks had the highest percentage of occluded porosity per rock volume whereas metamorphic rocks had the highest percentage of occluded porosity per total porosity. There was no apparent direct relationship between permeability and streaming potential for most samples, although there were indications of such a relationship in the rock group consisting of granites, aplites, and syenites. Most rock types or groups of similar rock types of low permeability had, when averaged, comparable levels of streaming potential per unit of permeability. Three calcite samples had negative streaming potentials.","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey,","doi":"10.3133/ofr83736","usgsCitation":"Johnson, G.R., 1983, Rock property measurements and analysis of selected igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks from worldwide localities: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 83-736, 37 p. ill. ;28 cm., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr83736.","productDescription":"37 p. ill. ;28 cm.","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":141012,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1983/0736/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":37411,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1983/0736/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e49e3e4b07f02db5e5679","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Johnson, Gordon R.","contributorId":90725,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Johnson","given":"Gordon","email":"","middleInitial":"R.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":160136,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

Dispersion is pronounced in all the resistivity data above 106 Hz. As water content decreases, resistivity dispersion becomes noticeable at lower frequencies. The resistivity data at all frequencies, however, fit an empirical prediction formula relating observed resistivity to water saturation and resistivity of the saturated sample. The data suggest that the dispersion of resistivity of some earth materials with frequency may be predicted on the basis of curve matching of the data obtained in this investigation with the resistivity of the material at a frequency of 100 Hz or lower. \r\n\r\nThe dispersion of dielectric constant with frequency is pronounced at all frequencies, being more pronounced with increasing water content. The districts occur in structurally complex settings associated with silicic to intermediate volcanics. Affiliation with subduction environments on a continental scale and caldera settings on a regional scale is common but is not demonstrable for all districts. Most deposits formed near the end of major volcanism, but some formed considerably later. Paleodepth to the top of the ore is 300-600m for most districts, although Au-rich districts appear to be shallower. The lateral extent of the ore zone is highly variable and far exceeds the limited vertical range (300-800m). Most ore was deposited from dominantly meteoric fluids ranging in temperature from 220&deg;-290&deg;C. Salinities ranged from 0-13 wt% NaCl equiv., and typical values were 1-3 wt%. Although noted for eight deposits, boiling is clearly associated with precious-metal deposition in only two deposits. Four districts, typified by Goldfield, Nev., are characterized by a highly sulfidized mineral assemblage, advanced argillic alteration, and ore deposition closely following emplacement of the host rock. The remaining eleven districts highlight a second, discrete type of deposit. They contain adularia, exhibit sericitic &plusmn; argillic alteration, and were mineralized significantly after emplacement of the host rock. The latter category includes two subgroups: Ag- and base-metal-rich deposits (e.g., Creede, Colo.), and Au-rich, base-metal-poor deposits (e.g., Round Mtn., Nev.).</p>","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey,","doi":"10.3133/ofr83710","usgsCitation":"Heald-Wetlaufer, P., Hayba, D.O., Foley, N.K., and Goss, J., 1983, Comparative anatomy Derivative, wavelength-filtered, and trend maps were compiled to aid in properly locating major geophysical trends corresponding to faults, folds, and lithologic boundaries. The anomaly maps indicate that Paradox Basin is characterized by a heterogeneous Precambrian basement, essentially a metamorphic complex of gneisses and schist intruded by granitic rocks and mafic to ultramafic bodies. Interpreted Precambrian structures trend predominantly northwest and northeast although east-west trending features are evident. Prominent gravity lows define the salt anticlines. Structural and lithologic trends in the Gibson Dome area are closely examined. Of greatest interest is a series of circular magnetic highs trending west-northwest into the Gibson Dome area. Further study of the exact definition and geologic significance of this series of anomalies is warranted.","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/ofr83359","usgsCitation":"Hildenbrand, T., and Kucks, R., 1983, Regional magnetic and gravity features of the Gibson Dome area and surrounding region, Paradox Basin, Utah: A preliminary report: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 83-359, Report: 34 p.; 3 Plates: 32.79 × 40.67 inches or smaller, https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr83359.","productDescription":"Report: 34 p.; 3 Plates: 32.79 × 40.67 inches or smaller","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":396292,"rank":6,"type":{"id":36,"text":"NGMDB Index Page"},"url":"https://ngmdb.usgs.gov/Prodesc/proddesc_13996.htm"},{"id":37186,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1983/0359/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":37185,"rank":402,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1983/0359/plate-3.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":37184,"rank":401,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1983/0359/plate-2.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":37183,"rank":400,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1983/0359/plate-1.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":142666,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1983/0359/report-thumb.jpg"}],"country":"United States","state":"Utah","otherGeospatial":"Gibson Dome area, Paradox Basin","geographicExtents":"{\n  \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\",\n  \"features\": [\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              -110.7130,\n              37.388\n            ],\n            [\n              -108.617,\n              37.388\n            ],\n            [\n              -108.617,\n              39.045\n            ],\n            [\n              -110.7130,\n              39.045\n            ],\n            [\n              -110.7130,\n              37.388\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    }\n  ]\n}","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4ac9e4b07f02db67c4ae","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Hildenbrand, T.G.","contributorId":83892,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Hildenbrand","given":"T.G.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":159757,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Kucks, R.P.","contributorId":53758,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Kucks","given":"R.P.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":159756,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2}]}}

During this same time population increased from about 150 million to about 230 million. Data on consumptive use are not available for the first decade of the period; however, from 1960 to 1980, consumptive use increased from 61 bgd to 100 bgd. \r\n\r\nFrom 1950 to 1980, fresh surface-water withdrawals increased from 140 bgd to 290 bgd and fresh ground-water withdrawals increased from 34 bgd to 88 bgd. Withdrawals of saline surface water increased from 10 bgd in 1950 to 71 bgd in 1980. In 1980, 91 percent of the saline surface water withdrawn was used in thermoelectric power plants. \r\n\r\nWithdrawals of water for domestic purposes nationwide increased from 16 bgd in 1960 to 25 bgd in 1980. The Northeastern States still are the largest users of water for domestic purposes; however, domestic withdrawals in that region declined from 9.6 bgd in 1975 to 8.8 bgd in 1980. Population in that region also showed a slight decline from 1970 to 1980. \r\n\r\nIrrigation withdrawals nationwide increased from 89 bgd in 1950 to 150 bgd in 1980. The Western States continue to be the largest user of irrigation water, 136 bgd in 1980. Irrigation accounted for 81 percent of the total consumptive use for the Nation in 1980. \r\n\r\nIndustrial withdrawals (exclusive of thermoelectric power generation) increased from 44 bgd in 1960 to about 56 bgd in 1980. The Northeast Region continues to withdraw the largest amount of water for industrial purposes, although withdrawals declined steadily from 33 bgd in 1965 to 27 bgd in 1980. \r\n\r\nTotal withdrawals for thermoelectric power generation increased from about 99 bgd in 1960 to about 210 bgd in 1980. During that period, saline surface water withdrawals increased from 26 bgd to 71 bgd. Thermoelectric plants accounted for 84 percent of saline surface water withdrawals in 1960 compared to 91 percent in 1980. Withdrawals for thermoelectric power generation continue to be the largest in the Northeast, ll3 bgd in 1980, where many of the major industrial and population centers are located. \r\n\r\nAgriculture (nonirrigation) water withdrawals nationwide increased from 1.6 bgd in 1960 to about 2.2 bgd in 1980. Withdrawals for this purpose in 1980 were about evenly divided between the West and East.","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey,","doi":"10.3133/ofr83207","issn":"0094-9140","usgsCitation":"Mann, W., Solley, W.B., and Chase, E.B., 1983, Summary of water withdrawals in the United States, 1950-80: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 83-207, 22 p. ill., 1 map ;28 cm., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr83207.","productDescription":"22 p. ill., 1 map ;28 cm.","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":156847,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1983/0207/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":53015,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1983/0207/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4881e4b07f02db51670d","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Mann, William B.","contributorId":21985,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Mann","given":"William B.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":190735,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Solley, Wayne B.","contributorId":61409,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Solley","given":"Wayne","email":"","middleInitial":"B.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":190736,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2},{"text":"Chase, Edith B.","contributorId":11192,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Chase","given":"Edith","email":"","middleInitial":"B.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":190734,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":3}]}}

Estimates were made for individual reservoirs in 382 fields and on a field-wide basis for the other 102 fields.\r\n\r\n*The term 'oil' as used in this report includes crude oil and condensate.","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"Minerals Management Service,","doi":"10.3133/ofr83122","usgsCitation":"Hewitt, J.E., Brooke, J.P., and Knipmeyer, J.H., 1983, Estimated oil and gas reserves, Gulf of Mexico outer continental shelf and continental slope, December 31, 1982: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 83-122, 19 p. ill. ;28 cm., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr83122.","productDescription":"19 p. ill. ;28 cm.","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":142888,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1983/0122/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":37165,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1983/0122/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4a81e4b07f02db64a0f5","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Hewitt, Jack E.","contributorId":104899,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Hewitt","given":"Jack","email":"","middleInitial":"E.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":159729,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Brooke, Jeff P.","contributorId":21957,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Brooke","given":"Jeff","email":"","middleInitial":"P.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":159727,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2},{"text":"Knipmeyer, John H.","contributorId":59031,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Knipmeyer","given":"John","email":"","middleInitial":"H.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":159728,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":3}]}}

It is written in a version of BASIC, and requires inputs of gage heights, discharge rating curve, shifts, and water quality concentration information. Concentration plots may be modified interactively using the display screen. Semi-logarithmic plots of concentration and water quality discharge are output to the display screen, and optionally to plotters. A summary table of data is also output. SEDQ could be a model program for micro and minicomputer systems likely to be in use within the Water Resources Division, USGS, in the near future. The daily discharge-weighted mean concentration is one output from SEDQ. It is defined in this report, differentiated from the currently used mean concentration, and designated the ' equivalent concentration.
