Though the proximity of the Hybla Gold working point to the chimney of the Dining Car event was important to the experiment, the observable geologic effects from Dining Car on the Hybla Gold site were minor. Overburden above the working point is approximately 385 m (1,263 ft). The pre-Tertiary surface, probably quartzite, lies approximately 254 m (833 ft) below the working point. \r\n\r\nThe drifts are mined in zeolitized ash-fall tuffs of tunnel bed 4, subunits K and J, all of Miocene age. The working point is in subunit 4J. Geologic structure in the region around the working point is not complex. The U12e.20 main drift follows the axis of a shallow depositional syncline. A northeast-dipping fault with displacement of approximately 3 m (10 ft) passes within 15.2 m (50 ft) of the Hybla Gold working point. Three faults of smaller displacement pass within 183-290 m (600-950 ft) of the working point, and are antithetic to the 3-m (10-ft) fault. Three exploratory holes were drilled to investigate the chimney of the nearby Dining Car event. Four horizontal holes were drilled during the construction of the U12e.20 drifts to investigate the geology of the Hybla Gold working point.","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey,","doi":"10.3133/ofr82137","usgsCitation":"Townsend, D., Baldwin, M., Carroll, R.D., Ellis, W., and Magner, J.E., 1982, Geologic, geophysical, and in situ stress investigations in the vicinity of the Dining Car Chimney, Dining Car/Hybla gold tunnels, Nevada Test Site, with sections on geologica investigations, geophysical investigations, and in situ stress investigations: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 82-137, iii, 129 p., 2 over-size sheets, ill., maps ;28 cm., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr82137.","productDescription":"iii, 129 p., 2 over-size sheets, ill., maps ;28 cm.","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":140137,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0137/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":34558,"rank":400,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0137/plate-1.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":34559,"rank":401,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0137/plate-2.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":34560,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0137/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4ae0e4b07f02db68803a","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Townsend, D.R.","contributorId":103671,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Townsend","given":"D.R.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":154671,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Baldwin, M.J.","contributorId":81096,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Baldwin","given":"M.J.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":154669,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2},{"text":"Carroll, R. Samples of stream sediments, panned concentrates from stream sediments, soils, rocks, and water were collected in the geochemical survey. Analytical results show that in reconnaissance, panned concentrates are the best of the sample types used in this study to detect molybdenum mineralization. More detailed analysis of the distribution of the molybdenum is best achieved through the collection of rock samples. Hydrothermal alteration is generally not conspicuous in the study area; however, rock samples that contain molybdenite are usually slightly enriched in silver, copper, lead, and in several instances, gold. Conversely, there appear to be negative associations between molybdenum and zinc and between molybdenum and several of the rare-earth elements. Mo concentrations in the rock samples with no visible molybdenite range from undetectable at a sensitivity of 5 parts per million (ppm) to 700 ppm. Mo content in rock samples containing visible molybdenite ranges from 10 ppm to greater than 2,000 ppm. Stream-sediment values range from undetected to 15 ppm; panned concentrates from undetected to 15 ppm; soils from undetected to 20 ppm. Analyses of the water samples indicate Mo concentrations from 0.8 parts per billion (ppb) to 4.8 ppb. As currently understood, this deposit is not extensive or continuous, but drilling to provide information on the vertical extent of mineralization may alter this opinion.","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey,","doi":"10.3133/ofr82299","usgsCitation":"Lee, G.K., Antweiler, J., Love, J.D., and Benedict, J., 1982, Geologic reconnaissance and geochemical sampling survey of molybdenum mineralization near Schiestler Peak, Temple Peak Quadrangle, Sublette County, Wyoming: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 82-299, 205 p., 4 over-size sheets, map ;28 cm., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr82299.","productDescription":"205 p., 4 over-size sheets, map ;28 cm.","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":141953,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0299/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":34517,"rank":400,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0299/plate-1.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":34518,"rank":401,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0299/plate-2.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":34519,"rank":402,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0299/plate-3.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":34520,"rank":403,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0299/plate-4.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":34521,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0299/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4ae0e4b07f02db688442","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Lee, G. The data will enable the county to evaluate flood hazards in the floodprone areas in the reach. Profiles for floods having recurrence intervals of 2, 10, 50, 100, and 500 years are shown in graphic and tabular form. A floodway, allowing encroachment of the 100-year floods, was designed with a maximum 1.0-foot surcharge limitation. A profile for a flood that occurred in November 1961 is also presented. All data were derived from a digital computer model developed for the study.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","doi":"10.3133/ofr82439","usgsCitation":"Friday, J., 1982, Flood profiles in the Calapooya Creek basin, Oregon: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 82-439, Report: iv, 30 p.; 7 Plates:36.40 x 24.76 inches or smaller, https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr82439.","productDescription":"Report: iv, 30 p.; 7 Plates:36.40 x 24.76 inches or smaller","numberOfPages":"35","onlineOnly":"N","additionalOnlineFiles":"N","costCenters":[{"id":518,"text":"Oregon Water Science Center","active":true,"usgs":true}],"links":[{"id":141921,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0439/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":324858,"rank":301,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0439/plate-1.pdf","text":"Plate 1","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":36518,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0439/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":324859,"rank":302,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0439/plate-2.pdf","text":"Plate 2","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":324860,"rank":303,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0439/plate-3.pdf","text":"Plate 3","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":324861,"rank":304,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0439/plate-4.pdf","text":"Plate 4","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":324862,"rank":305,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0439/plate-5.pdf","text":"Plate 5","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":324863,"rank":306,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0439/plate-6.pdf","text":"Plate 6","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}},{"id":324864,"rank":307,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0439/plate-7.pdf","text":"Plate 7","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"country":"United States","state":"Oregon","otherGeospatial":"Calapooya Creek Basin","geographicExtents":"{\n  \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\",\n  \"features\": [\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              -123.46126556396483,\n              43.352894431489204\n            ],\n            [\n              -123.46126556396483,\n              43.432478446130375\n            ],\n            [\n              -123.25801849365233,\n              43.432478446130375\n            ],\n            [\n              -123.25801849365233,\n              43.352894431489204\n            ],\n            [\n              -123.46126556396483,\n              43.352894431489204\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    }\n  ]\n}","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e49e9e4b07f02db5e9433","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Friday, John","contributorId":19160,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Friday","given":"John","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":158534,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

The test hole was drilled in the SW 1/4 SE 1/4 sec. 34, T. 12 N. , R. 1 E., Yolo County, California, about 3 miles northeast of the town of Zamora. Drilled to a depth of 2,500 feet below land surface, the hole is cased to a depth of 190 feet and equipped with three piezometer tubes to depths of 947, 1,401, and 2,125 feet. A 5-foot well screen is at the bottom of each piezometer. Eighteen cores and 68 sidewall cores were recovered. Laboratory tests were made for mineralogy, hydraulic conductivity, porosity , consolidation, grain-size distribution, Atterberg limits, X-ray diffraction, diatom identification, thermal conductivity, and chemical analysis of water. Geophysical and thermal gradient logs were made. The hole is sampled periodically for chemical analysis and measured for water level in the three tapped zones. Information on hydraulic properties of the basin fill, recharge from bordering mountain ranges, discharge by evapotranspiration, and exchange of water between aquifer and stream was available from previous measurements or estimates. The steady-state calibration procedure and subsequent transient simulations demonstrated that the original conceptualization can be reasonably simulated. An analysis of model sensitivity to increases and decreases in certain hydraulic properties indicated a low sensitivity to aquifer anisotropy and a low to moderate sensitivity to stream leakance and evapotranspiration rate. An analysis to investigate the effects of generalizing aquifer conductivity and recharge showed that flow components and water-level response to stress could be simulated adequately but that steady-state water-level conditions could not. During equilibrium conditions, recharge to and discharge from the basin was about 16,500 acre-feet per year. Modeling results indicated that by 1978 the storage depletion rate had reached 5,600 acre-feet per year resulting from a ground-water withdrawal rate of 10,500 acre-feet per year. The burial site and vicinity are underlain by a sequence of unconsolidated sediments of Late Cretaceous, Tertiary, and Quaternary age. These sediments are deposited over a graben which has been filled with sedimentary rocks of Triassic age. \r\n\r\nHydraulic properties of the sediments beneath the burial site were determined by laboratory and field tests. Laboratory hydraulic conductivity values ranged from about 10^-7 to 10^-1 feet per day for the clayey sediments to nearly 22 feet per day for aquifer sands. Field aquifer tests indicate a transmissivity of about 22,000 feet squared per day for Cretaceous sediments and about 6,000 feet squared per day for Tertiary sediments. Aquifer tests indicate heterogeneity in the upper 200 feet of the Tertiary sediments. \r\n\r\nWater samples were analyzed from 51 wells, 5 streams, a Carolina bay, and rainfall at the burial site. The total dissolved solids of the ground water ranged from about 7 to 40 milligrams per liter in the upper clayey sediments to about 150 milligrams per liter in the water in the deeper calcareous sediments. The pH of the ground water ranges from 4.8 to 6.5. This slightly acidic water is corrosive to buried metal. \r\n\r\nTritium activity greater than background was detected in sediment cores taken from drill holes adjacent to the burial trenches. High tritium activity occurred at depths above the trench floor. This indicates upward movement of water or vapor to the land surface. Tritium and organic constituents greater than background concentrations were observed in a monitoring well about 10 feet from a trench, indicating lateral migration of radionuclides from the buried waste. Traces of cobalt-60 and tritium greater than background activity were observed in sediment cores collected 5.8 feet beneath the trench floor at one site.\r\n\r\nA hydrologic model was used to simulate ground-water flow in the study area. Based on the model results the minimum time of travel for ground water to move from the burial site to the nearest stream, Marys Branch Creek, is about 50 years. Radionuclides will move more slowly than the water, and will diminish in activity, because of dispersion and radioactive decay.","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey,","doi":"10.3133/ofr82863","usgsCitation":"Cahill, J.M., 1982, Hydrology of the low-level radioactive solid waste burial site and vicinity near Barnwell, South Carolina: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 82-863, viii, 109 p. :ill., maps ;28 cm., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr82863.","productDescription":"viii, 109 p. :ill., maps ;28 cm.","costCenters":[{"id":13634,"text":"South Atlantic Water Science Center","active":true,"usgs":true}],"links":[{"id":141469,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0863/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":35757,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0863/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"country":"United States","state":"South Carolina","city":"Barnwell","geographicExtents":"{\"type\":\"FeatureCollection\",\"features\":[{\"type\":\"Feature\",\"geometry\":{\"type\":\"Polygon\",\"coordinates\":[[[-81.2198,33.4393],[-81.2148,33.3902],[-81.2215,33.2295],[-81.2176,33.2209],[-81.224,33.1581],[-81.2119,33.1476],[-81.2069,33.1344],[-81.1943,33.1231],[-81.2304,33.1176],[-81.2442,33.1189],[-81.2589,33.1134],[-81.2836,33.1083],[-81.3652,33.1081],[-81.4354,33.1297],[-81.4519,33.1346],[-81.5123,33.1503],[-81.5419,33.1579],[-81.5708,33.1332],[-81.6142,33.0953],[-81.6187,33.0952],[-81.6241,33.0946],[-81.6268,33.0941],[-81.6323,33.0928],[-81.6362,33.0924],[-81.6395,33.0923],[-81.6428,33.0928],[-81.6466,33.0937],[-81.6494,33.0949],[-81.6532,33.0973],[-81.6536,33.0977],[-81.6569,33.1009],[-81.6611,33.1041],[-81.6621,33.1046],[-81.667,33.1072],[-81.6752,33.1099],[-81.6851,33.1135],[-81.6961,33.1161],[-81.6993,33.1166],[-81.7016,33.117],[-81.7025,33.1172],[-81.7053,33.1183],[-81.7076,33.1188],[-81.7098,33.1207],[-81.7126,33.1224],[-81.7162,33.1243],[-81.7189,33.1252],[-81.7211,33.1257],[-81.7236,33.1278],[-81.7263,33.13],[-81.7297,33.1332],[-81.7352,33.1368],[-81.7407,33.1409],[-81.7428,33.1424],[-81.7479,33.1463],[-81.7545,33.1517],[-81.759,33.1557],[-81.7622,33.1599],[-81.7648,33.1649],[-81.767,33.1708],[-81.7673,33.1716],[-81.7691,33.1758],[-81.7701,33.1777],[-81.7701,33.1795],[-81.7689,33.1808],[-81.7674,33.1817],[-81.7669,33.183],[-81.7669,33.1839],[-81.7673,33.1864],[-81.7662,33.1877],[-81.7655,33.1881],[-81.7636,33.1894],[-81.762,33.1903],[-81.7615,33.1907],[-81.7609,33.1913],[-81.7588,33.1931],[-81.7577,33.1949],[-81.7573,33.1972],[-81.7575,33.1982],[-81.5165,33.3824],[-81.373,33.4907],[-81.3399,33.4831],[-81.3251,33.485],[-81.3047,33.48],[-81.2738,33.4637],[-81.2463,33.4442],[-81.2198,33.4393]]]},\"properties\":{\"name\":\"Barnwell\",\"state\":\"SC\"}}]}","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4afee4b07f02db697917","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Cahill, James M.","contributorId":55432,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Cahill","given":"James","email":"","middleInitial":"M.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":157229,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

The bearing and plunge of the maximum and minimum principal stress components are, respectively: N. 56? E., 29? NE; and N. 42? W., 14? NW. The vertical stress magnitude of 7.9 MPa calculated from the overcore data is significantly less than expected from overburden pressure, suggesting the stress field is influenced by local or areal geologic factors. Results from this investigation indicate (1) the stress state at the Spent Fuel Test--Climax site deviates significantly from a gravitational stress field, both in relative stress magnitudes and in orientation; (2) numerical modeling will not realistically simulate the near-field response of the Spent Fuel Test--Climax site if gravitational and (or) horizontal and vertical applied stress boundary conditions are assumed; and (3) substantial stress variations may occur spatially within the stock.","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey,","doi":"10.3133/ofr82458","usgsCitation":"Ellis, W., and Magner, J.E., 1982, Determination of in situ state of stress at the Spent Fuel Test-Climax site, Climax Stock, Nevada Test Site: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 82-458, i, 57 p. ill., maps ;28 cm., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr82458.","productDescription":"i, 57 p. ill., maps ;28 cm.","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":141088,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0458/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":36312,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0458/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4aa8e4b07f02db667709","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Ellis, W. This application was novel in the consideration of winter discharge records for the period of backwater effects due to ice. The current level of operation in Maine was identified as requiring a budget of $195,000 and having a total uncertainty of 374 cubic feet per second. Stream-gaging strategies were identified that could reduce the level of uncertainty in the system by as much as 45.8%, assuming the budgetary level remained constant. Alternately, practical stream-gaging strategies were also indentified that could reduce the total level of funding by as much as 19.2%, assuming the current level of uncertainty was deemed acceptable. Several alternatives of concurent budgeting and levels of uncertainty were identified. These relationships provide flexibility to the network manager. The results, documented in the report, were based on a sparse data base and should be applied in that context. The geochemical similarities strongly suggest that they belong to the same family of oils and were derived from similar sources. \r\n\r\nThe oils are relatively high in sulfur (0.89 to 1.23 percent), rich in hydrocarbons (average 82 percent), relatively high in saturated hydrocarbon/aromatic hydrocarbon ratios (average 2.9), and based on analysis of seep oils alone, have a low API gravity (average 19.4?). The oils are for the most part severely biodegraded as attested by the loss of n-paraffin molecules. \r\n\r\nGeochemical comparison of seven crude oils collected in the vicinity of the breccia pipes indicates that the Yates oils are the likely source of the above family of oils. Six barrels of crude oil that were dumped into a potash exploration borehole near Hill C breccia pipe, to release stuck casing, are considered an unlikely source of the breccia pipe and mine seep oils. Volumetric and hydrodynamic constraints make it highly improbable that such a small volume of 'dumped' oil could migrate over distances ranging from about 600 feet to 2.5 miles to the sites of the oil shows.","language":"ENGLISH","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey,","doi":"10.3133/ofr82421","usgsCitation":"Palacas, J.G., Snyder, R., Baysinger, J., and Threlkeld, C.N., 1982, Geochemical analysis of potash mine seep oils, collapsed breccia pipe oil shows and selected crude oils, Eddy County, New Mexico: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 82-421, 41 p., ill. ;28 cm., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr82421.","productDescription":"41 p., ill. ;28 cm.","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":140499,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0421/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":34463,"rank":300,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1982/0421/report.pdf","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"}}],"noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"4f4e4b24e4b07f02db6ae879","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Palacas, J.
