Paco Van Sistine Publication_Date: 2004 Title: Geologic map of Gunnison Gorge National Conservation Area, Delta and Montrose Counties, Colorado Edition: Version 1.0 Geospatial_Data_Presentation_Form: map Series_Information: Series_Name: USGS Scientific Investigations Map Issue_Identification: I-2825 Publication_Information: Publication_Place: Denver, Colorado Publisher: U.S. Geological Survey Online_Linkage: http://pubs.usgs.gov/sim/2004/2825/ Description: Abstract: This publication consists of a geologic map database and printed map sheet. The map sheet has a geologic map as the center piece, and accompanying text describes (1) the various geological units, (2) the uplift history of the region and how it relates to canyon downcutting, (3) the ecology of the gorge, and (4) human history. The map is intended to be used by the general public as well as scientists and goes hand-in-hand with a separate geological guide to Gunnison Gorge. Purpose: The U.S. Bureau of Land Management managers of the National Conservation Area (NCA) need an inventory of geological features of Gunnison Gorge in order to better implement their management plan. The managers also desire that visitors, including students from local schools on field trips, have an easy-to-understand reference on the geology of the NCA. R. Waltermire assembled several digitized geological quadrangle maps into the preliminary draft of the geological map. C.A. Finn and J.A. Karson offered sound geologic feedback in the field, and D.W. Moore and R.B. Scott improved the poster greatly with thorough reviews. Julie Coleman commented on the human history of the canyon. Native_Data_Set_Environment: SunOS, 5.8, sun4u UNIX ARC/INFO version 8.1 Data_Quality_Information: Attribute_Accuracy: Attribute_Accuracy_Report: Attributes were checked by manually comparing hard copy plots of the digital data with the source materials. Authors and USGS map editor performed separate reviews. Logical_Consistency_Report: Map elements were visually checked for overshoots, undershoots, duplicate features, polygon closure, and other errors by the author and by the GIS technicians who created/edited the digital database. Automated (ARC/INFO) routines were also used to check the databases for polygon label errors, line or point attribution errors, sliver polygons, dangling arcs, intersection errors, and projection information. Check plots of the map were reviewed by at least two other geologists for consistency with basic geologic principles and general conformity to USGS mapping standards. Completeness_Report: Data are complete. Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report: Geological information compiled from existing published USGS maps. Estimated accuracy in location of geological features is within 20 m. Lineage: Source_Information: Source_Citation: Citation_Information: Originator: W.R.
