File Structure:

base_map.zip : compressed bigspring_quad base map (Georegistered image of the Big Spring 7 1/2 	minute quadrangle topographic map)

big_spring_geology.pdf: file for viewing and plotting the map plate as published by the U.S. Geological Survey. Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader.

big_thumb.gif (low resolution thumbnail image file of only the geologic map portion of the plate)
 	
Geologic GIS data compressed into file : GIS_data.zip

	Big_Spring.mxd:  ArcMap 9.1 map project file which will display all GIS layers. ArcMap 		9.1 and above required).

	big_spring.mdb:  ArcMap 9.1 personnal geodatabase containing vector GIS data of the 		following layers:

	bedding (point layer with measured bedding attitudes)
	bedrock (polygon layer with areas of bedrock units delineated)
	cata (point layer of locations of observed sandstone float with cataclastic  			shear bands)
	faults (line layer with location of mapped faults)
	geochemistry (point layer with location and data from geochemical analysis of 			igneous rocks
	iron_prospects (point layer with location of abandoned iron mines or 				prospects)
	joints (point layer with joint measurement data)
	large_sinkholes (line layer with outlines of drainages to observed sinkholes 			greater thatn 100 feet across)		
	sm_sinkholes (point layer with location of observed sinkholes less than 100 			feet across)
	springs (point layer with locations of observed springs)
	structural_contours (line layer defining elevation on the base of the 				Roubidoux Formation)
	surficial (polygon layer delineating areas of surficial deposits)
	wells (point layer with locations of wells)

	/shapefiles/: ESRI shapefile versions of the above vector geologic data files
