Data

This digital database was compiled with ArcInfo version 7.2.2 as coverages and then converted to a file geodatabase. Seven feature classes contain the geologic map data. Two additional feature classes contain cartographic objects. ArcInfo-compatible GIS software is required to use the files of this database. The database consists of parts of 19 24,000-scale USGS topographic quadrangles. The scale of the source map limits the spatial resolution (scale) of the database to 1:24,000. The topographic bases are 1000 dpi scans of the 1:24,000 topographic bases for California and is stored in ESRI grid format. For this data release, the individual feature classes were compressed as one WinZip file and the Grid file as a separate WinZip file. The zip files contain the metadata and the following layers:
Feature classes Description
ash_arc Feature class containing isopach lines for ash erupted from Cinder Cone (lines)
chemistry_locations Feature class containing chemistry sample locations from Open-File Report 2008-1091 (points)
geochronology_locations Feature class containing geochronolgy sample locations and ages (points)
geology_arc Feature class containing faults, contacts, and geologic lines (lines)
geology_polygon Feature class containing the geologic units (polygons)
lvnp_bndry_arc Feature class containing boundary of Lassen Volcanic National Park (lines)
vents_point Feature class containing volcanic vents (points)
Annotation, unit_leaders Feature classes containing cartographic objects

Download sim2899-featureclasses.zip containing the feature classes (3.1 MB).

ArcInfo grid file Description
base Lassen volcanic center 1:24:000 topographic base (raster)

Download sim2899-base.zip containing the raster base (83.4 MB).

Also available is an ArcMap document that symbolizes the data to approximate the printed map. This document requires ArcMap to open. For the file to work properly, the current directory structure needs to be maintained. The document is called Geologic map for the Lassen National Volcanic Park and vicinity, California.mxd

Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) metadata are available for both the digital geologic map and the topographic base data in Text format.
