Schonchin Butte
9. Schonchin Butte is the focal point of this view taken from the Devils Homestead Overlook, which is located along the Gillem Fault in the northwestern part of Lava Beds National Monument. In the foreground is the early postglacial basalt of Devils Homestead (map unit bdh), which was erupted farther south at the Fleener Chimneys spatter vents about 12,400 years ago. Fire lookout at top of Schonchin Butte is visible; lookout can be reached by a trail from the base of the cinder cone. View is to southeast; cone to right of Schonchin Butte is Hippo Butte.
