ReadMe U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Map 2932ÐC Database for the for the Geologic Map of the Southern Flank of Mauna Loa volcano, Island of HawaiÔi, Hawaii, Scientific Investigations Map 2932ÐC By Frank A. Trusdell and John P. Lockwood ABSTRACT This database release to accompany U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Map 2932ÐC contains all the information used to produce the geologic map. The main component of this digital release is a geologic map database and shapefiles prepared using ArcGIS. PURPOSE These data were created to make digital geospatial versions of the data published in USGS Scientific Investigations Map 2932ÐC available for visualization and analysis in GIS software with the intent of illustrating and understanding processes and volcano hazards related to Mauna Loa. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION This release is a geodatabase that contains geologic map feature classes and stand-alone tables. ArcGIS-compatible GIS software is required to use the files of this database. The geodatabase is delivered in a single zipped folder (11.6 MB) in this release for ease of transfer. The scale of the source maps limits the usable spatial resolution of the database to 1:24,000 scale or less detailed. Feature classes are symbolized according to the FGDC Digital Cartographic Standard for Geologic Map Symbolization. To reproduce the look of the printed maps as closely as possible in an Esri GIS application, this release includes layer files (.lyr) for feature classes designed to be symbolized.
