Readme file Database for the Map of the Rinconada and Reliz Fault Zones, Salinas River Valley, California Scientific Investigations Map 3059 By Lewis I. Rosenberg, and Joseph C. Clark 2009 DESCRIPTION OF DATA FILES By Lewis I. Rosenberg INTRODUCTION The results of this mapping of the Rinconada and Reliz Fault Zones are presented as a digital map database. This document describes the types and contents of files comprising the database. Information on how to extract and plot the map also is provided. This publication includes ArcGIS (Environmental Systems Research Institute, http://www.esri.com) shapefiles; Portable Document Format (PDF) files of an oversize map and an accompanying pamphlet; georeferenced TIFF files of the USGS 1:250,000 topographic quadrangle base map and grayscale shaded-relief base map; and a text file of FGDC- compliant metadata for the report. DISCLAIMER The data in Scientific Investigations Map 3059 should be used to evaluate and understand the geologic character of the Rinconada and Reliz Faults Zones as a whole. These data should not be used for purposes of site-specific land- use planning or site-specific geologic evaluations. DIGITAL COMPILATION The Rinconada and Reliz Fault Zones map was initially compiled and edited in ESRI ArcGIS 9.2. The GIS data were converted and edited in Adobe(r) Illustrator(r) CS2 format using Avenza(r) MAPublisher(r) 7.6.3 software. Map projection: Universal Transverse Mercator, Zone 10 Datum: 1983 North American Datum Units: meters Map scale: 1:250,000 Not all elements in the complete Scientific Investigations Map 3059 were prepared in an ESRI GIS environment. Pamphlet figures were prepared in Adobe(r) Illustrator(r) CS2 and Adobe(r) Photoshop(r) CS2.
