Hudson Publication_Date: 2010 Title: GEOLOGIC MAP OF THE MAUMEE QUADRANGLE, SEARCY AND MARION COUNTIES, ARKANSAS Edition: 1.0 Geospatial_Data_Presentation_Form: Map Series_Information: Series_Name: Scientific Investigations Map Issue_Identification: 3134 Publication_Information: Publication_Place: Denver, Colorado Publisher: U.S. Geological Survey Online_Linkage: http://pubs.usgs.gov/sim/3134 Description: Abstract: This digital geologic map summarizes the geology of the Maumee quadrangle located in Searcy and Marion counties, Arkansas. This dataset was compiled through use of a Geographic Information System (GIS) at 1:24,000 scale. Geologic interpretation is based on numerous site investigations of stratigraphic horizons and structural features. Strucutral features include folds in the form of synclines, anticlines, and monoclines and faults that show normal offset and a combination of normal and strike- slip offset. Bedrock stratigraphy within the quadrangle is composed of carbonate and clastic rocks from the Ordovician, Silurian, and Mississippian Periods. Unconsolidated sediments are linked to the Buffalo River and major tributaries. Multiple terrace levels are present along the Buffalo River up to 260 ft above base flow level. The Buffalo River is part of the Buffalo National River. Carbonate rocks surrounding Buffalo National River host extensive karst aquifers and due to the rapid nature of ground-water flow through karst aquifers this detailed geologic dataset is useful in the management of the National Park and the delicate ecosystem. Purpose: To provide a geologic map database of the quadrangle that improves understanding of the regional geologic framework and its influence on the regional ground water flow system. Authors and USGS map editors performed separate reviews. Logical_Consistency_Report: Map elements were visually checked by the authors for overshoots, undershoots, duplicate features, and other errors. There is a static topological relationship between the polygon, contacts, boundary, faults, and label feature classes. Features were not duplicated, but coincident lines exist between data layers where appropriate. Completeness_Report: Geologic map units were collected and digitized at appropriate resolution for portrayel on a base at 1:24:000-scale. Data are complete: no features were eliminated or generalized. Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report: Potential exists for errors in location by the geologist in the field but many locations of many contacts were aided at control sites by use of a global positioning receiver with typical horizontal accuracies less than 20 meters. Vertical_Positional_Accuracy: Vertical_Positional_Accuracy_Report: Contact locations were also aided by use of a barometric altimeter with vertical resolution of about 6 meters tied to topographic contours with vertical accuracy of about 6 meters. Topographic basemap elevation values (maumee_base.tif) are from published USGS 7.5-minute topographic map. Hillshade raster was created from USGS NED 10 meter digital elevation model data. The 'Polygons' feature class contains geologic polygons constructed using the 'contact', 'boundary' and 'fault' feature classes as the bounding arcs and 'label' feature class to attribute polygons. Other structural features are in the 'fold' feature class. Attitudes for bedding are included in 'att_flat' and 'att_inclined', and fault orientation data is included in 'faultdip'. Structural contours interpreted for the base of the Boone Formation are in 'strcnt_Mb'. Structural contours are constructed primarily based on field locations for the base of the Boone Formation in 'cntrlpts_Mb'. Where the base of the Boone Formation is not exposed, field locations for the upper contact of Boone Formation with the Batesville Sandstone are used, and are in 'cntrlpts_Mbv'. Cross section lines for A-A' and B-B' are in 'cross_section'. >---------------------------------------------------------------- >Database structure of 'Polygons': >---------------------------------------------------------------- >Field Name Data Type >OID Object ID >Shape Geometry > >Geometry Type-Polygon >unit Text > >Length-15 >description Text > >Length-100 >Shape_Length Double >Shape_Area Double > > >Descriptions of user-defined database items in 'Polygons': >unit: Abbreviated name of map unit >description: Name of map unit and geologic age > >Unique item list for 'Polygons': >unit description >Qal Alluvial and active channel deposits of tributary >> drainages (Quaternary) >Qty Young terrace and active channel alluvial >> deposits (Quaternary) >Qls Landslide deposits (Quaternary) >Qtm Medial terrace and alluvial deposits (Quaternary) >Qto1 Old terrace and alluvial deposits (Quaternary) >Qbx Remnant block deposits (Quaternary) >Qto2 Very old terrace and alluvial deposits (Quaternary) >Mfw Fayetteville Shale, Wedington Sandstone Member (Upper >> Mississippian, Chesterian) >Mf Fayetteville Shale, main body (Upper Mississippian, >> Chesterian) >Mbv Batesville Sandstone (Upper Mississippian, Chesterian) >Mb Boone Formation, main body (Upper to Lower Mississippian, >> Meramecian to Osagean) >Mbs Boone Formation, St. Joe Limestone Member (Lower >> Mississippian, Osagean to Kinderhookian) >Su Silurian rocks, undivided (upper to lower Silurian, >> Ludlow to Landovery) >Oc Cason Shale (Upper Ordovician) >Of Fernvale Limestone (Upper Ordovician) >Opl Plattin Limestone (Middle Ordovician) >Osp St. Peter Sandstone (Middle Ordovician) >Oeu Everton Formation, upper part (Middle Ordovician) >Oel Everton Formation, lower part (Middle Ordovician) >Water Buffalo River > >---------------------------------------------------------------- >Database structure of 'label': >---------------------------------------------------------------- >Field Name Data Type >OBJECTID Object ID >SHAPE Geometry > >Geometry Type-Point >unit Text > >Length-15 >description Text > >Length-100 > > >Descriptions of user-defined database items in 'label': >unit: Abbreviated name of map unit >description: Name of map unit and geologic age > >Unique item list for 'label': >unit description >Qal Alluvial and active channel deposits of tributary >> drainages(Quaternary) >Qty Young terrace and active channel alluvial >> deposits (Quaternary) >Qls Landslide deposits (Quaternary) >Qtm Medial terrace and alluvial deposits (Quaternary) >Qto1 Old terrace and alluvial deposits (Quaternary) >Qbx Remnant block deposits (Quaternary) >Qto2 Very old terrace and alluvial deposits (Quaternary) >Mfw Fayetteville Shale, Wedington Sandstone Member (Upper >> Mississippian, Chesterian) >Mf Fayetteville Shale, main body (Upper Mississippian, >> Chesterian) >Mbv Batesville Sandstone (Upper Mississippian, Chesterian) >Mb Boone Formation, main body (Upper to Lower Mississippian, >> Meramecian to Osagean) >Mbs Boone Formation, St. Joe Limestone Member (Lower >> Mississippian, Osagean to Kinderhookian) >Su Silurian rocks, undivided (upper to lower Silurian, >> Ludlow to Landovery) >Oc Cason Shale (Upper Ordovician) >Of Fernvale Limestone (Upper Ordovician) >Opl Plattin Limestone (Middle Ordovician) >Osp St. Peter Sandstone (Middle Ordovician) >Oeu Everton Formation, upper part (Middle Ordovician) >Oel Everton Formation, lower part (Middle Ordovician) >Water Buffalo River > >---------------------------------------------------------------- >Database structure of 'contact': >---------------------------------------------------------------- > >Field Name Data Type >OBJECTID Object ID >SHAPE Geometry > >Geometry Type-Line >SHAPE_Length Double >description Text > >Length-100 > > >Description of user-defined database items in 'contact': >description: Cartographic description of feature > >Unique item list for 'contact': >description >Contact -
